When you mentioned kids having to drop out of school and work reminds me of my parents. They told us they had to drop out and work to help out too. I think 8th grade was the furthest my Dad went. My Mom too but can't remember when she had to quit school. They didn't have a diploma but they provided for 6 kids and themselves. They always had a garden too. We always had something to eat even if was beans and rice and homemade cornbread and veggies from the garden and handme downs to wear from family. Looks good Grandpa.

Oh lord ain't that the truth. We went to Albertsons yesterday. We splurged and wanted to get some meat from the deli counter and some cheese. 1lb roast beef, half pound turkey, half pound cappicola, and a half pound Muenster cheese, we some grocery bags, pickles, my bf got a 12 pack of budweiser in bottles, and we got broccoli, cauliflower, green onions, and 2 or 3 little bags of herbs and i got some chicken thighs, maybe couple other things. We had 2 bags when we got to the car. We spent a little over $120.00! Old biden and kamala sure do like driving those prices up. Things will only get worse if sbe wins. Love this recipe it sounds delicious. And her little voice is absolutely adorable. It's like straight out of a movie, the sweet little grandma. I swear there's a TV voice or movie voice of an older lady that sounded like this, and I can't remember who it is.

Potato Peel Pie was a dish used in the British Channel Island of Guernsey during the Nazi occupation of WW2 when the islanders were on very meagre rations. Peelings were used to make a sort of open pie crust, then filled with mashed potato and chopped beetroot before being baked in the oven. The story is used in the movie, "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society". Highly recommended.

Well this one certainly looks "easy as pie"! I'm always so happy to watch your uploads--- they remind me of the way I grew up, simpler recipes for a simpler time. We had chickens on the farm, so always plenty of eggs, and lots and lots of delicious baked custards to use them up. We never bothered to make a crust to go along with all that custard! I wonder if your mom lived around this general area? I know it was common when my mom was young for people in the Gold Coast mansions to still have live-in employees. A friend of hers lived over the stables at a famous heiress's, which is now a (state?) park. Another friend's dad's family also lived or worked at another big estate, and he met his wife there. This would have been around the late 1920s-1930s, maybe up through early 1940s time frame. Thanks, Grandma and Grandpa, for another winner!

Thank you very much for sharing.. I am going to make this pie.. By the way in the south southerners have got a pie something like like, poverty pie but without the meringue topping.. It is called "Chess Pie." Have you every heard of the Chess Pie? You might like it. There is lemon, chess pie and chocolate chess pie..

Thank you for sharing about the Chess Pie. We are from the northeast and I have never heard of the pie. I will definitely have to look into making it. Thank you for watching👩🏻

I can see this being modified into a mock lemon meringue pie with just adding some lemon juice to the custard. Looks very versatile as desert pie.

I’m from Buffalo and lived through 1977. The blizzard you had last year was horrible. Hope you came through ok

I love to watch these videos ❤️👍😁…thank you for sharing them….I think many of us will need to start cooking on a regular basis like this soon…even though I hope I’m wrong…and it reminds me of how my grandmother cooked and I would much rather eat that way then to try to survive on a bunch of junk food 😁 God bless ❤️

I totally agree no junk food. Years ago they did not have fast food restaurants so they had to prepare simple cheap meals. Thank you for watching and your blessings❤️👩🏻

I love you guys. Try putting something tacky under the bowl when you’re using that egg beater. I use piece of ribbed carpet pad when I don’t want the bowl moving around. Thanks for the recipe. Gonna try it tonite.
