I used a hammer drill to try to put 2" TapCon screws into a 40-year-old concrete basement walls. It was murder. Even with a new, high-quality masonary bit, it took about 4 minutes to drive a horizontal hole - I couldn't get my whole weight behind it, for one thing. That amount of time also meant that the hole wandered just a bit, because it was almost impossible to keep the drill perfectly perpendicular to the surface for that amount of time. I'm going to buy one of the powder actuated tools, because who knows when I'll want to attach something else some day in my basement. Thanks for your video - good content.

Glad it was useful to you. Really old concrete is murder. Hope the powder actuated hammer works out for you, that is for sure my favorate when I have anything over 15-20 years in concrete.

Thank you so much! The cost difference for me buying a tapcon hammer strike tool is so much lower than a hammer drill I'll never need again. I just saw this in the store and you're video helped a lot!

Glad it was helpful. I was a bit suppressed as well at how cost effective the power hammer was as well.

I agree the Hilti DX 460 MX is truly the Cadillac of nail guns.

I use the ramset on many different things. Everytime I install an outside spigot on concrete wall or brick wall I use the ramset. I use the outside spigots with 2 holes and flange built in it and I use the brown load for brick and the green load for concrete wall with 1/2" or 1" ramset nails. I normally only need the yellow shots and 1-1/2" nails for mounting 2x4 boards but I use the ramset also on my copper mounting bracket to hold copper pipe on concrete wall. Way better than any tapcon or concrete screws

That’s awesome. That’s for sharing the whole process and that’s a great idea.

Cool video! What do you think the difference is as far as longevity and overall strength is concerned?
@BuildItMakeIt

I think for longevity I would go with nails. They resist shear more than screws in general. I think there isn’t much of practical difference though.

Great video. What about if you may need to remove wood from concrete later? I experimenting with various projects that may need to have the wood changed if it doesn't work for me.Will the gun allow for that? I know at least I could always unscrew the Tapcons, but was just curious.

I have removed the nails from concrete a bunch of times over the years. My opinion is I like the nails so I don’t have to unscrew, but that may be my laziness. Often if they have been in the concrete a while they will pull out a thin cone of concrete. Generally that hasn’t been a problem, but if you can’t patch it, or the concrete will be seen it is a bigger hole than the screws.

A slight modification can turn a powder actuated nail gun into a firearm.

Interesting. I wonder how it’s accuracy would be without a barrel.

@@BuildItMakeIt I would use the Ramset Mastershot. Weld a steel barrel and drill a notch to enable cocking. It's the cheapest firearm. Also the only option in country where firearm is illegal.

It’s not the better tool it’s faster but anchors are so much stronger your not risking cracking the foundation hammer drill and anchors or even tapcons is truly the correct way but one thing your forgetting is a vapor barrier people think concrete is water proof it’s not you can make it waterproof by sealing but if your attaching wood to concrete use sill plate vapor barrier pink thin foam that’s truly the correct way those ram sets have place but definitely not older concrete foundations

Try to punch some rifling good luck but accuracy no point blank maybe but that’s about it and you would have to use a better wadding to increase compression but if your in a communist country maybe that’s the best thing
