I would normally do mine in the microwave for about 6/9 minutes depending on size of potato and the wattage of your microwave then finish off in the power oven so it's all crispy on the outside and soft in the middle yummy

The recipe for an air fryer is, coat the potato with oil, apply whatever seasoning you like, 400 degrees and 40 minutes. There are literally dozens and dozens of videos on how to bake potato in an air fryer. The skin is crispy and the interior is perfectly cooked.

I always make my baked potatoes in the microwave (1000 watt). Next time wrap your spud in plastic wrap after seasoning instead of the damp paper towel. Reduce cook time to 4-5 minutes. It will be cooked perfectly!
@YourEverydayJoe6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment and suggestion. Question... never tried with plastic wrap, always too afraid that the plastic may melt and contaminate the food. How does the plastic wrap hold up?
@DiStackhouse6 жыл бұрын
YourEverydayJoe, I use a “thick” plastic wrap available at Costco and as a store brand at Walmart. It shrinks up but doesn’t usually melt. However, if plastic is a concern, I’ve also used waxed paper. It can be used in the microwave with no worries and works very well! Also make sure you reduce the time for smaller spuds...FYI this method works great for corn on the cob and takes only 2-3 minutes.

I cook a medium Maris Piper potato in a "steam mug" (clip on lid with air vent on top) for 4 minutes, then oil and foil and put it in the air fryer at 190 degrees for 11 minutes, unwrap, cut in half and bake for a further 3-5 minutes still sitting on the foil and adding grated cheese.

Gabrielle, not sure I understand your question. If you are asking if wrapping the potato will slow down the cooking process... I think wrapping them traps the steam in the potato and possibly lessens the cooking time to a small degree. I do not use foil in the microwave just a moist paper towel. Hope that answers you question. Thanks.

@@YourEverydayJoe what I meant is can I use the same method I use for the slow cooker i.e. wrapping in foil and putting the foil wrapped potato into the air fryer? Will the foil wrap have a negative impact on air fryer as it does in a microwave.
@YourEverydayJoe5 жыл бұрын
No worries Gabrielle, I always use aluminum foil in my power air fryer oven. The air fryer oven works much like an electric burner with a fan used to circulate the hot air. Its not the same as a microwave oven. Bottom line foil is safe in the air fryer, although the foil may fly around the oven if its not secured. Check out some of my other videos and see that i have the catch tray covered in foil for ease of cleaning.

You need to wrap with foil, air fryer at minimum 400degs, then temp probe for a reading of 200-210degs internal - they will always be fluffy with a nice crispy skin. The reason to season skin is so you can eat all of it - why waste the best part?

In my opinion, microwaves are great IF you are very short on time and do not care about the nutritional value that is lost due to microwave radiation ... you might as well eat a cardboard potato with flavorings added. Yes, I have a microwave, but I do not cook in it ... I use it strictly to quickly (less than 2 to 3 minutes) re-heat food and/or drinks {especially my coffee}. Air fryers are faster than most ovens, use less electricity and do not heat-up the kitchen/house as much as the conventional stove/oven, especially when you are cooking for one or two people.

Agreed. The premise for the "test" was not to see which was the more tasty or nutritious version but if the air fryer was able to compete in a time race. Although I always use the air fryer over the microwave very seldom I come home from work and need to head out again and in my opinion the microwave will serve the purpose. And yes I understand that I can prepare meals in advance but sometimes that is not always feasible. Thanks for the comment and support.👍
@joannmccraw72355 жыл бұрын
@@YourEverydayJoe The test being a "time race", yes, the microwave won and will do so hands down every time. I think everyone (almost) finds they do not have the time, but need the "hunger tummy" to be satisfied before having to be somewhere else a.s.a.p. Occasional 'quickie meals' are necessary and the microwave comes in handy there. The constant use of the microwave, in my opinion, is removing needed nutrition our bodies need constantly. Preparing meals ahead of time is rarely done now a days ... as it use to be done. (Yep, I'm 70 and still remember the good ole days.) Today, with frozen dinners, food in metal cans, tons of preservatives and little time to think about "the way it use to be", we often forget what nature gives us. The days of home canning are rare and doctors visits are more and more often ... but no one seems to connect the two. Just a thought. BTW I do enjoy your tutorials I am subscribed ... keep it up ... and ... God bless.

Found it with this one. Interior space cavity was large, but the outside was smaller than my old one. I love the one-button push for 1-6 minutes, and the 30 second add or 30 second start. and MOST IMPORTANTLY, I love how you can adjust the power level during cooking. The reviews said it could not be done, but this marked all the other boxes. and happy to say, it does. I can hit 1 minute start, and change the power level from 10 to 5, 30 seconds in, without interruption. my favorite feature!
