I'm an Aries and in my younger years I read that our tendencies are to respond to hastily without thinking which may not work out in our favor so I trained myself not to be quick to respond. It has made me an even more quiet person as I also have no friends, I prefer it that way. It has gotten me through some situations though as I have been challenged in the past when I went out at night and just didn't respond to some people picking a fight on a few occasions that they just left around me probably because they thought I was crazy when I didn't respond but yet stayed there😮, it has its downsides though as I've been told stuff sometimes and really thought before I responded but in the end didn't and afterwards wished I said the first things that were on my lips...smh

I believe in most cases it is right to be silent in hasty situations to give yourself time to think. But this silence thing is trending because social interactions are not healthy at the moment. Narcissistic behavior is rising and spreading due to conditioning most people are not aware of.

A similar experience here. Please allow me to interrupt. I do research on how Buddhism disappeared in Bihar. I realized it never disappeared from Bihar. Buddhists simply failed to research Indian Buddhism. They looked at Buddhism through the sphere of their own cultures searching for only the Buddha. Buddha had a myriad of names in different villages according to his teachings there. Example. His favorite teaching was 'Lust and desire causes pain. Remove lust and desire, and pain is removed'. Translated into Bihari (where the Buddha story took place) it is DHUKH HARAN meaning to remove dukha. Three dozen villages pray to DUKH HARAN Baba. Its clear that DUKH HARAN Baba is none other than the Buddha. Problem is Buddhists are searching only for the Buddha. In the real Vaishali the Buddha begged for alms. The locals there pray to 'BHIKHAINI' Baba (Beggar Baba). Bhikhaini was mispronounced by Buddhists as Bhikshu. Who is BHIKHAINI Baba. The Buddha no doubt. But people are searching for a man called Buddha. In the real Vaishali, in Beluha the Buddha suffered a sickness and felt he had grown old. The locals pray to 'BURHA' Baba (Old Baba). Who is BURHA Baba. The Buddha no doubt. In the real Vaishali the Lichavies pressurized Buddha not to die. They trailed him to Bandagawan pressurizing him not to die. To put pressure in Hindi is DABESHWAR. Three dozen villages around the stupa where Buddha gave the Lichavies his patra, the villagers pray to Baba 'DABESHWAR NATH' meaning the man who won the pressurizing game. It was the the Buddha no doubt as he gave the Lichavies his patra and succeded in sending them back. But Buddhists are searching for the Buddha. In Pidhauli (Vaishali) the local deity is Bardiha Baba. Bardiha means the Baba who didn't allow us to stay where he was staying. Bardiha Baba is the Buddha no doubt because he didn't allow the crowd of Lichavies to stay with him in Bandagama. Forgive me for commenting out of the topic. I just wanted to impart this information to Buddhists.

Right now my life is surrounded by difficult situations and intense changes. Lots of obstacles and difficult decisions. But I've been meditating for years and take cold showers every morning. I also read sacred Pali texts and also listen to Pali chants online. I see my difficulties as challenges. They barely bother me. It is what it is. Rather, my difficulties have motivated me to meditate deeper and longer. That's all you can do. Everything works out in the end. In this life or in the next. Breathe. Be still. Be grateful.

Hinduism and Buddhism have been talking about this for thousands of years. Many natural scientists and religion skeptics (e.g. Carl Sagan) approve of these philosophies

The only way to practice is thru meditation. I have been practicing meditation about 10 years now and I agreed that sometime I got mad , I noticed and recognized my anger and be able to redirect it to cool down. Before that when I didn’t do meditation I would snap back right away with a madness attitude. Meditation has changed me to a different person with mindfulness that I learned.

Meditation 🧘🏽‍♂️ is all day long , not just in the quiet moments.. who can keep there head during stressful, turbulent times , the ones who found time to meditate during turbulent , and normal quiet times .. 😳🤔 not my words .. . I was somewhere doing exercise and meditation, a person near me was doing the same , we finished, had a chat , as we parted , other persons friend arrived . Immediately started with a whole negative story , complaining etc . Person who composed while meditating whole demeanour changed , understandable.. but that is the moment when this person needed? , to be in meditative state , .. not just when it’s peaceful, calm , ideal … . Just saying …

This is so true. I faced this situation a lot of times. My family would actually use my reactions as a tool to shift the blame for what ever wrong they did. It happened for almost 22 years. If a plate broke in the kitchen while they were arranging, it was not their fault for dropping it but my fault for keeping it there. These small small things used to bother me so much and I would react furiously. And they used to take advantage of it and the actual mistake gets erased. While my reaction becomes the biggest mistake. This happened for 20 years. And one day I started playing a deaf year to what ever they were saying. Internally it was hurting me. But I stood silent and listened. They were shocked and they even went to an extent of asking me why was I not reacting. Still I was not reacting. It save lost of your energy lot drama and you will be at peace. Now I became a master at being a poker face.

3 biggest lessons I learn from this video are: 1/ The Power of Reaction: Our reactions, not the events themselves, shape our experiences. By controlling our reactions, we can significantly influence our emotional state and overall well-being. 2/ Mindfulness and Awareness: Practicing mindfulness helps us become more aware of our thoughts and emotions. This awareness allows us to respond to situations more thoughtfully and reduce impulsive reactions. 3/ The Importance of the Present Moment: Focusing on the present moment prevents us from dwelling on past regrets or future anxieties. By living in the now, we can find greater peace and happiness. Thank you so much for the meaningful video

My Mum explained it to me growing up as acting vs reacting. Acting was being mindful, understanding the information at hand, evaluating and delivering a deliberate action to it. Reacting is allowing 100% emotional response with zero filters assessing anything else at hand. I've never known anything else. Super valuable lesson I taught to my daughter. Sadly it comes across as cold to people who don't know me and I'm not. I am the person people want around in a crisis though.

Easier said than done. Change like that requires a whole rewiring of your mind. But with time and practice, you won't react negatively as often. I've been trying to tame my emotions and even through I still get upset/angry, I actively try to control my reaction to situations that trigger those negative feelings. In the end, you're mostly hurting yourself because you're the one walking around, burdened with all that negativity while the other person is enjoying their life.

It's not easy, but it can be practiced. It took me years... I know from experience, and I can vouch for it, that not reacting is the most wonderful release ever! You feel like a particle in the air, floating around freely when you finally achieve it. It's not that I don't get angry, or feel immune to the situation, but I feel my anger cannot fix what's done, and could make it only worse. If it would make you feel any better, I'll share this too. If someone stirred your emotions and pushed your mind into calamity, when you don't react, they will be stewing inside waiting for your reaction... And their wait will be the true excruciating punishment 😅

Feelings are part of being human. I used to label some feelings as good or bad and avoided the 'bad' --thinking that I was bad for having 'bad' emotions. It was when I learned how to see them all as natural and neutral-neither good nor bad, just an emotion, that I was able to allow myself to experience ALL of them. Experiencing an emotion is not the same as reacting from it. Power comes when we learn to recognize, name, and understand where the emotion is coming from and why. What just happened that triggered that emotion? Oftentimes we don't even know how to name an emotion so the frustration leads us to name it as anger, but underneath the anger if we're willing to look ...is the real emotions. Practice asking yourself, "What else?" several times when you are experiencing emotions. The more you can articulate the feelings you are feeling, the more you can understand yourself. The time spent being mindful gives you time to separate from the emotion, process it and DECIDE what to do next. Give yourself permission to sit in an emotion or emotions, especially before quickly reacting. Reacting is often quick, but responding is after you've had time to think. The Bible has been very helpful for me to learn wisdom and see examples of how to handle all sorts of situations. Two other insightful books: The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle and Boundaries by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend

Controlling our emotions doesn't mean that we become pokerface and that others cannot read our emotions any more. This also leads to conflicts. Cause others need to be able to recognize our emotions for their own safety. But controlling the emotions means that we aren't victims of our emotions but that we master our reactions by speaking about our emotions that are there just in the moment. I think this is important. The only emotion we are allowed to let float free is happyness and sometimes sadness. But never angryness or fear.

@Xiallaci

During my healing journey I realized that impulsive reactions come from triggers - from unhealed wounds. For example, I got triggered very easily when people try to feel good about themselves at others expenses. In a work enviornment it would be comething like "I dont want to put in the effort of doing things correctly and idc who that affects". I then realized that my trigger came from childhood. There was a specific situation, where i was happily playing with my friends and my mother angrily pulled me away from then - when she realized that i was not happy about it, but sad that i couldn't play anymore, her anger turned towards me. She took me home to then madly ignore me the rest of the day. As I healed the wounds, I was no longer blindly reacting. Rather, I found that I was able to more clearly descern why I was feeling bad about a situation. And then decided how to react to it. Sometimes this meant to let it go. Other times it meant to clearly and calmly call peoples behaviour out. I guess thats what it really means to control emotions vs suppressing them... Suppressing is like grinding your teeth together and not letting big emotions show, while control comes from a position of inner peace.

I'm the most tolerant person I know. I never react with anger even if I hurt myself or break something, I don't react at all or laugh about it. Other people cannot upset me because I love unconditionally. I've lived like this for many years and I feel like an alien. The biggest problem is always that other people don't feel that I take them seriously because I don't want to share their anger with something. Then I always have to wait until they have calmed down their injured ego and want to live peacefully next to me again. 🙂 💕☀️

I think its fair enough to ask for new soup when a fly is in it. Also sometimes when someone continuously upsets you and they are part of a group that you must be involved in, then its important to stand up to someone like that and sometimes you need all the anger you can conjure to do that and stop their behaviour. I think sometimes feeling angry and reacting is appropriate to deal with a situation. People often dont get it until they see a reaction. You can sit back and think about it and deal with it in a refined state but some people wont get it and wont stop until you stand up to them in a way that sends them a message.

With some people, the more respectful and pleasant you are to them, the more they think they can walk over you and treat you like rubbish, its just their nature and the way they were raised unfortunately. This is particularly true in business's where there is not much regulation and there is money and power involved.

To be in control doesn't necessarily mean your suppressing your emotions, it just means you allowing yourself to be the one who feels the emotions and not the one who acts out of emotions, its easy to get out of hand or say/do things we may genuinely not do under normal circumstances, and here comes in the important factor time, being in control entails giving yourself time to process and digest so that whatever action is taken from their is healthy even for the decision maker, the opposite would mean their frustrations cause if we keep on acting out of our emotions we end up doing the things we ourselves feel are unpleasant to us, and the end emotion is we feel like we cany control our emotions, controlling emotions means we acknowledge that we are not our feelings cause if we are then what is that feels them
