Having grown up in Chicago as an ardent hockey fan, there was just something special about the Black Hawks jersey. The color combinations of the feathers, the tomahawks on the shoulders, and the face paint is special. They better never change it! I had a party one time at my house and I asked every Black Hawk fan that came to tell me the colors of the feathers from left to right. Nobody got it right!

Kings fan and former journalist who covered NHL. Jack Kent Cooke, former owner of both Lakers and Kings (founding owner of latter too), changed the Lakers from blue Minneapolis colors to "Forum blue and gold" to match LA's new hockey team. The Kings are therefore responsible for their more famous NBA neighbor's look. The Raiders look can be apt; not to mention silver and black were not in 1980s NHL color schemes. How things change.

When the Ducks were bought by the Samuelis, they chose to use the colors orange and gold to represent the county (Orange Co,) and the state (California is referred to as the Golden State).

I like this challenge. I'd say of the 30 teams I separate them into Good histories, Meh histories, and straight up bad ones... In the Good (Some of these are so close for me they are basically interchangeable.) Canadiens Maple Leafs Bruins Detroit New York Chicago (I'm not a fan of the Blackhawks logo as much, but, it is classic.) Philadelphia (to me one of the most iconic logos in NHL history, very consistent over time.) San Jose St. Louis Buffalo (I'm ignoring the buffa-slug) New Jersey Calgary For the Meh category... Tampa Bay (I love their current jerseys... but their original ones were awful.) PIttsburgh (Started strong... currently strong... was not a fan of the fat emperor penguin jerseys in the 90s-00s.) Capitals (Same as above. In between there was that eagle design, and the capital building design... ugh.) Colorado (Current is great... Yeti foot and the Nordiques, not so much..) Winnipeg (Love what they have, have no love for the Atlanta Jerseys.) Oilers (Definition of meh with orange.) Islanders (Definition of meh with orange, part II, interchange as needed with slot above.) Dallas (Not a fan of the North Stars logo, liked the 90s logo, dislike the D-Star of the current era, that would make a good shoulder patch, not a chest logo.) Ducks (When they were mighty... awesome with the green and eggplant... the moment they traded it in for a tiny word, with the web-D, and added orange... pass.) Canucks (At best, meh for me... with some of the most infamously bad ones in league history... I think the stinkin-rink is kinda bland...I'm sorry Hockey Guy, not for me.) Carolina (Never a fan, Whalers or otherwise... but I did really like the old 3rd black jersey, before they added the 2nd flag.) For the Bad group... Blue Jackets (Current is not as bad, the original ones were bad.) Minnesota (Never a fan of the cat-head-nature thing, or the color green mixed with red, I kinda like their script green third, reminds me of my Maine Black Bears a little.) Also, I know its a Disney design but I really liked the original Ducks logo, the two hockey sticks with old time goalie mask was a great design, the current jerseys just looks uninspired, I wonder if the ducks organization knows its still supporting Disney in there D3 logo, hidden marketing

I actually like the fact that the Devils organization is stubborn about making jersey and logo changes, its almost like they have the attitude of an original 6 team. In fact, I think the Devils should bring back both red and green jerseys and become the first team to have a permanent 3rd and 4th.

Yes AMEN about the orange comment. It pains me to watch the oilers at home wearing their "iconic" pylon orange. It hurts. Burnt orange is just so much better, like the subtle orange they had on the 16/17 alternates.

For me its: 30 - Canadiens (i dont hate Canadiens, I just think its soooo ugly and boring) 29 - Senators (well the 90s jersey was kinda cool) 28 - Predators (not my taste at all) 27 - Wild (don't get why so many like that one) 26 - Sharks (same as above, however I liked the old one more) 25 - Hurricanes (I think the original is nice, but the flag jerseys are ugly) 24 - Maple Leafs (not ugly just a bit of boring) 23 - Rangers (as above, but the Liberty one is wonderful) 22 - Stars/North Stars (the new one is one of the ugliest, but the old star jersey is a 10 and North Stars also a 10) 21 - Capitals (I like their classic jerseys most but the eagle is hot as well) 20 - Jets/Thrashers (well except for the third, home and away jerseys they have now its nice) 19 - Avalanche/Nordiques (i love the Nordiques jerseys, Avs is ok except the Pac-Man jersey) 18 - Blue Jackets (am i the only one who like the originals?) 17 - Panthers (i like the originals most) 16 - Lightning (same as above) 15 - Ducks (i love the originals, i hate the ones they have now) 14 - Oilers (not so much for the orange jerseys but overall looking good, except the oildrop thing) 13 - Bruins (very nice jerseys except Winnie the pooh one) 12 - Devils/Rockies/Scouts (good looking jerseys and i do also like the Scouts and Rockies ones) 11 - Flames (i love original colours) 10 - Penguins (i love the one they have now and Robopenguin) 9 - Canucks (i like the spaghetti jerseys most, love it) 8 - Red Wings (classic and i love it) 7 - Sabres (i love the originals, the best looking logo in the league) 6 - Kings (love it, but the purple i love most) 5 - Blues (love it, especially the 90's one with red) 4 - Blackhawks (classic and i love it) 3 - Coyotes/Jets (love the kachina, also the kachina head and just for that its at 3rd) 2 - Flyers (childhood memories and love the colours) 1 - Islanders (i don't know why i like this so much, maybe its something with orange?)

Chicago's jerseys are what hockey jerseys should look like. I'm a hawks fan and as a kid I actually didnt like the logo or colors, but as an adult I've come to appreciate just how beautiful and simple it is. My father-in-law didn't know anything about hockey until he met me except for the fact that he loved the Hawks jerseys lol now he has a personalized one he proudly wears to Indy Fuel games. It's such an iconic look even outside of hockey, much like wearing a Yankees hat or Raiders gear. It transcends the sport in a lot of ways.

Devils logo - funny you bring up Christmas as that was a reason for the change from green to black. Lou felt green / Christmas colors weren’t intimidating enough and thus changed to black.

Hey Shannon, while I appreciate you putting the Ducks higher than I would have expected (mainly because of the whole Wild Wing breaking out of the ice jersey), I don't understand how you can rank the Wild higher considering that one of their more recent 3rds is pretty much a carbon copy of the Ducks' 3rd from 04-06 (dark purple with "Mighty Ducks of Anaheim" lettering on it). They are practically the same save for the coloring ;)

My opinion differs from yours in a few ways. Would have rated the LA Kings as a bottom 10. Never thought their jerseys looked great in any era. Also, would have rated Montreal and Toronto as the top 2. Theirs are true classic jersey’s that looked great from their very origin. Would also move the Blackhawk’s down and any other team that has a fairly complex logo, prefer a simple logo like that of the Flyers. The exception being the Winnipeg Jets with their F-16 and the Minnesota wolf head.

I remember seeing someone’s KZbin video where they ranked Chicago’s jersey near the bottom. His reasoning was that, Adidas didn’t make any drastic changes to it, and he even admitted that they did look nice, but he ranked them low due to the lack of change. I may be more annoyed about it then I should be because I’m a Blackhawks fan, but it is a classic jersey. Why should you change something that works very well?

I'm with ya for the most part on the Kings, so there's not much to dissent. However...comma..I was never a big fan of the purples. It represents a dark time in the history of my Kings. I have softened just a bit on that though. I do have three purples in my collection. The rest are the Raiders colors, as you put. To which I say, and? There's plenty of teams that share color schemes. That's not unusual, uncommon, or lacking.

Kings had the purple and gold before the Lakers moved to LA. Lakers had blue and white from Minnesota. So, Lakers colours are actually Kings colours. Then they switched to Raiders colours. The home plate logo is a horrible logo. Also, Kings are the only team (major team) from LA and left/came back.

The Jets own the old Jets logo as they bought it from the league when the NHL returned to Winnipeg. The NHL acquired the old Jets logo when they assumed ownership of the Coyotes through bankruptcy court.
