Great review. As a fighting game enthusiast that higher latency is a bit troubling. I like the look of the controller though. Keep up the great work!

Happy to see that companies understand the demand for Saturn style pads. I personally prefer fight pads over sticks.

Picked one of these up for myself (Microcenter had them for $40!). It feels and works great. I've played several fighters with it, but I mostly use it for shoot 'em ups and other arcade games and the precision of the floating d-pad is excellent. That said, I am now looking at reviews on Amazon at the moment (something I wish I didn't do is buy first, *then* watch reviews after), and it seems like the d-pad is of poor quality and is bound to snap off at some point in time. Buyers beware!

Looks nice! Later iterations on the 2nd Design of the Sega Saturn controllers had the best dpad, so hopefully this holds true on these "Spiritual Successor" controllers.

Power A usually makes good value budget controllers. Hopefully they release a cheaper version without the unnecessary aesthetics added on.

Looking for a controller like this with wonderful latency numbers and cheaper? Hori Fighting Commander v2 PS4 version, in x-input/pc mode, is an absolute gem of a pad, and considering its even cheaper than this one, is a no brainer if you are in the market for a good 6-face-button controller. M30 and saturn clones cant compete with that gimpy upper row of buttons in the front, even if they have nice d-pads generally.
@peterkozlowski43775 жыл бұрын
Looks tempting but not so sure at that price and latency. I'd bite at closer to maybe 30 if it drops in price. At 55 its nearly the cost of an official controller. Also with those removable faceplates they could sell extra designs like licensed artwork for collectors.

I bought the Hori Commander Octa pad and its far inferior to the Fusion A fightpad. The Hori fight pad main problem is that it always resets at the bottom so doing a double quarter circle (Fireball motion) is a pain in the ass. With the FUSTION A I have no problems with it and the d pad feels very responsive so I ended up trading in the Hori Octa pad for this pad and its the best fight pad I ever used.

it's disappointing that they didn't put LB and RB on the face so you can use the triggers or the bumpers as macros for PPP or KKK. Can can still map it but they're stuck on the left LB and LT. Sad.

I don't think d-pads are ever really an optimum controller for fighting games. At that price you could get a cheap Hori or Mayflash arcade stick and never have trouble getting your fireball out.
@ravagingwolverine5 жыл бұрын
I think a decent use case for a gamepad such as this would be for an enthusiast who may have a stick, but would want a controller that could be more flexible in its use. For example, it would be easier to use this in more situations like sitting or laying down where it would be more difficult to use a stick. It could be more of a companion controller rather than a replacement for a stick. That is without considering the price here.
@drrrrzz91455 жыл бұрын
Tell that to NuckleDu, Smug and all the other pro pad players :) I use both and find both have advantages and disadvantages but generally have zero problems with execution on either.
@ataru45 жыл бұрын
@@drrrrzz9145 yeah there are several pro players who make pads work for them (although I think they sometimes swap between dpad and analog stick depending on the move, I've never seen any pro player use one of these type of fightpads) Some of the modern fighting games are much more pad friendly as well. I was thinking of retro games more for this pad, as the lack of analog limits it's use. If it was cheaper I might be tempted to get one as a backup pad.
@ataru45 жыл бұрын
@@ravagingwolverine that is true, sticks can be a bit big and cumbersome.

Anyone know how this dpad compares to xbox360's? 360 also has floaty dpad but it's terrible for special inputs.

I love that modern controllers are being released in this form factor but I also think this particular one looks far too bulky and costs way too much. I have an 8bitdo M30 (bluetooth) and one of the new Retrobit Saturn pads, I think I'll stick with those over something like this. I especially love the feel, performance, and battery life of the 8bitdo M30. No I don't work or shill for them, and I bought mine with my own money, I just think it's great :) It does seem pretty crazy that this costs about $60 when so many other PowerA controllers are budget accessories. I have one of their wired Xbox One pads (for my PC) and am pretty pleased with it, but it was only $20.

If you have a receiver, care about sound quality, and use Plex, it's the best option for a streaming box, period. I would get the Pro model though. I have an Apple TV 4K and have owned the previous Shield TV and there is no comparison if you use your own content.

I am skeptical about the pivoted dpap working well for 2D fighting games, something akin to the snes or playstation flat layout would work best. This reminds me of the xbox 360 floating dpap which was really bad for 2D fighting games.
@ravagingwolverine5 жыл бұрын
The Saturn controllers are already proven and are widely considered to be among the best controllers ever made for 2D games and especially for the fighting games that were extremely popular in that era. I don't hear too many people say that the PS1 pad was better than the Saturn in that regard, though the PS1 pad isn't bad in my opinion. I think you can do either style just fine, but there's no reason to doubt that a Saturn-style d-pad would be good for fighting games.
