Control the Bar all the way to the chest .. I try to pull the bar like a row and when my elbows are behind me and scaps are together..pause 3 to 4 seconds in that "pined" position then I lift the bar under control with no arch and with a little leg drive .. to lock out . I learned this years ago and it works for me .

I started doing push downs the way Mike recommended. For years my tris were weak, flat in the back and little side development. My shoulders took over every compound movement for tris. Im 58 amd my tris are getting bigger than ever in my life with the isolation movement's Mike suggests. No close grip bench or overhead DB extensions etc. AND I got much stronger on the press down doing it Mikes way also- do it works on strength also! Thanks Mike! 👍🏻

thats the difference between powerlifting and body uilding mindset. powerbuilding which is funny cuz the title is powerbuilding is bs but that idea would be to do both train both ways whether in the same workout or transitioning back and forth. i like to do both because i want to look like i can move weight and be able to move weight so ya idk rlly doesnt matter what you like to do just enjoy the gym dont hate on people help people out that need it and rerack your fuckin weights.

What people think powerbuilding is: Doing main lifts with hypertrophy focused accessory work. AKA powerlifting. What powerbuilding actually is: trying to combine bodybuilding and powerlifting methodologies to optimize both training styles at once and being ineffective at both.

Powerlifters practice the lockout range as well because its very important to be strong in that range as the weight slows down or even gets close to stopping. Also, when he talked about the editing of "influencers" it made me realize why him, lee priest, rich piana and guys like him are the only ones I can stand watching.

I threw in powerlifting moves at the start of my workouts for years when I was casually lifting. But, when I started training more specifically for classic physique, I dropped them because they were taking up recovery energy. I grew for the first time in a loooong time and I think that was a big part of it. Funny thing is, I went back to deadlift the other day just to see where I was at after not doing it for a year....I was within 10-12% of my best, lol. Sigh, so much for specificity. I guess a bit more muscle in the right places, letting nagging injuries heal etc. idk. But, I'll be training for quality muscle here on in.

Bodybuilding Yoda you are Big Mike, indeed;-) Thank you for all the tips and tricks as to proper movement execution. You've often stressed the need to spend an appropriate while in the bottom position of an exercise (or let the weight "sink" in the lengthened / bottom position). Let me ask you a question as to whether one should relax the target muscle in the bottom position /use the stretch reflex in exercises like triceps pressdowns, presses for chest, leg presses or squats, etc. or should one keep "constant tension" (I might misunderstand the aplication of the constant tention principle but I feel that concentrating on keeping constant tension of the working muscle makes it hard to let the weight "sink" in the bottom position as the trainee gets too tight trying to keep the muscle tensed troughout the full range of motion). Thank you in advance and all the best from Poland

Thank f**k I have come across Mike video’s, it has changed the way I am now lifting and I have had more benefit from mike teachings than years of lifting listening to others. However, I still watch Mountain Dog who will always be with us, I was doing one of the exercises Mountain Dog was passing on in reference to doing an all round Delt raises, I thought this one looks easy enough, here was Mounting Dog doing the exercise with what looked like 10 kg dumb bells and I couldn’t even do it with the 5 kgs. But my excuse is I am 65 so I was punishing myself with the 4kg weight and thought no the form is BS and reduced it even further to 3kg but I have gone from the 8 reps dog said to do to 10 reps when I can achieve more reps then I will go up prior to trying 4 kg and this is when you see how strong people like Mike and Mountain Dog really are and their dedication to weight lifting. I also like Mike’s movements because I have a replacement shoulder but using mike’s techniques he as helped heaps so from this old Aussie, Mike thank you mate, because my body is F**Ked after 35 years in the Australian Army and as I say at 65 year old I am making gains listening to you, lifting lighter using your angles and movements.

I wish someone had told me this thirty years ago. Guilty of badly pushing lots of plates. And the irony is, not once did I ever get asked to lie on my back and press 5 20kg discs in each hand. Not once. A skill as useless as being able to peel the skin of a rice pudding with my feet. I feel mugged off. I later discovered, THEY HAVE MACHINES for that. Wow, who knew? No, complete waste of time. Although I have achieved the lofty heights of almost being crippled and now have a chest like a trifle. Woo hoo! How cool is that kids? Did I miss the reasoning as to why "flat bench is useless for women." Do women not have pecs? Is there not a good percentage of women who may have to push a man off of them in self defense at some point? Do women not do pushing movements at their jobs, in everyday life, etc? I'd honestly like to know whether there's a legitimate reason for this line of thinking or whether it's just typical fitness misogyny.

It has gotten really bad. You can learn a lot from both but make sure you check who is providing the info. They are two different sports and I will never tell a bodybuilder what to do because I am a powerlifter. They need advice on powerlifting I will try to help but I will never say my way is the right or best way. Too many people don’t ever verify what people say and end up worse than where they started. In powerlifting so many of these kids being taught wrong and their going to have back, shoulder, and knee issues by the time they are 18 that could of been avoided. Most of the people teaching these kids are the people you are talking about. These so called coaches in the gym that claims to be powerlifters or bodybuilders telling the kids they are going to make them All American athletes has gotten out of control in our area. 100% agree with what you are saying.😂😂

@@MadsofMads I think they make sure their lats are extremely strong so it becomes a reverse row of sorts while laying on a bench. Done correctly there isn’t much risk of injury versus doing any other type of lifting. They pull the bar out of the rack with their lats and stay completely tight the entire time , versus a regular bench presser pushing the bar out of the rack and getting out of position , and pressing completely witn their shoulders and barely using lat drive to pull the bar to the chest. I’ve seen more injuries for regular benches than powerlifters but usually it’s their deltoid getting destroyed over time. Think more along the lines of torn pecs and torn rotator cuffs etc. I was a powerlifter for 10 years before switching to a hybrid bodybuilding approach

Powerlifting is a sport, if you’re lifting to get as big and strong as you can then your a power builder. Enough with the hair splitting, who cares anyway. People lift weights for as many different reasons as their are people.
@johnjohntv1195
@johnjohntv1195 Жыл бұрын
It’s not splitting hairs when the protocol needed to achieve the desired results in bodybuilding vs powerlifting are literally exact opposites! i.e. making the lifting of a weight as advantageous as possible to move the highest number as in powerlifting VS making the lifting of a weight as _disadvantageous_ as possible (whilst still being safe) in order to trigger and achieve the most hypertrophy whilst using the most efficient stimulus to fatigue ratio to maximise muscle size as per the goal of bodybuilding. They’re literal opposites.
