Hot take: While I do not harbor any ill will towards the LGBTQ+ community in particular, I do not consider myself a "straight ally". It implies that straights and LGBTQ+ people are somehow enemies, and that I'm one of the "good ones". A bit like the saying "you're a credit to your race". 1:14 I agree mostly with this one, the rainbow represents the entire LGBTQIA+ community as whole, but sometimes more specifically gay men (mlm or man loving man). Homosexual men do have their one pride flag now, and it is similar to the lesbian flag but with greens and blues, if you want to find this flag I recommend googling “mlm flag”. 1:49 I mostly agree with this too, although being lesbian does not mean just a woman who is attracted to other woman. Lesbianism is when a non-man is attracted to another non-man. Lesbians can be demigirls, genderfluid and sometimes non-binary (nblw). 2:00 First of all, it’s actually pink, purple and blue, not red. Second of all, bisexuals do not have to be a man or a woman who love men and women. Bisexuals can be people of any gender (female, male, non-binary, ect.) who are attracted to two genders, hence the prefix “bi”. Bisexuality is usually someone who is attracted to men and women, but not always, they are attracted to two genders. These two genders can be women and non-binary people, men and genderfluid people, man and women, ect. 2:30 Transgender is an umbrella term, just like the term “homosexual”. Homosexuality isn’t just gay and lesbian people, it’s an umbrella term that describes people who don’t identify as straight. This includes bisexuals, pansexuals, lesbians, and anything that isn’t heterosexual. Transgender also has mini labels too, but the main definition of transgender is someone who transitions from one gender to another. Usually people associate transgenderism with women transitioning to men and men transitioning to women, but this is not the case. The transgender umbrella consists of women transitioning to non-binary, men transitioning to demiboys, women transitioning to men and so much more. But yes, ftm (female to male) and mtf (male to female) people are most commonly referred to as transgender. (PS, the reasoning behind the colours of the trans flag is that they’ve transitioned. Transitioning is kind of like rebirthing as a new gender, so that’s why they chose baby pink and baby blue.) 2:43 Pansexuality is genderblindness. Being genderblind is to not see a difference in one’s gender. Pansexuals are people of any gender who are attracted to all genders, regardless of gender identity or pronouns. (Also I’m sure that it was unintentional, but you classed transgenders as different to regular men and women by accident. Transgender women are women and transgender men are men, that’s that.) 3:17 Intersexuality is when someone does not show or shows a mixture of femininity and masculinity, or being _physically_ androgynous. If one is born with an assigned gender but does not identify as any gender now, they may be non-binary or agender. 3:45 Completely agree here, asexuality is the lack of _sexual_ attraction. It does not mean they cannot have romantic relationships, otherwise they would be considered aromantic, which is the lack of romantic attraction. *(I’m not going to discuss the “tribes” because some find it offensive, because it’s grouping people based on stereotypes.)* 12:52 Heterosexuality is not apart of the LGBTQIA+ community. We appreciate allies and we love straight people but if you are straight, cisgender and not at all in relation to the LGBTQIA+ community, the you simply aren’t LGBTQIA+. Heterosexuals don’t necessarily have a flag, but that’s because, believe it or not, they aren’t necessarily oppressed either. I'm a lesbian who calls themselves gay and likes the rainbow flag as representation, I've always known that flag as the gay flag for all gays and love it. The rainbow flag makes me feel good and I call myself what I like. You can't just split it off in to each sex exclusively anyway. I am not confused, I am being and saying what makes me feel happy. I wish you had learned about intersex before you gave a definition of it. You seem to misunderstand it quite a bit. The way someone talks can't make them intersex. An intersex condition (there are several different) can make you intersex. Like an androgen insensitivity or an irregularity of the genitalia and/or sex chromosomes etc. It seemed like you were more interpreting it as gender nonbinary with the possibility of an anatomical irregularity. Thank you for including the community and flag, but this video seems to lean educational and what you said seems misleading. I have no doubt your intentions were pure. This could just cause some confusion among those who adopt your definition as fact and don't have that reflected in reality. I hope you don't take this as criticism. Education about LGBT+ matters is important and your video appears to be a good resource, overall. (I'm not offended or anything either. I'm not even inter myself, as far as I know.) Michael Mell even if that's what he meant, it's still and incorrect definition. Intersex people literally have physical characteristics that cause them to not have a fully male or fully female body. These characteristics can include high levels of testosterone in a woman/estrogen in a man and mismatched reproductive organs, like having a vagina but some male reproductive organs inside their body. There are probably many other variations of intersex people, but it has nothing to do with how you present yourself and does not guarantee what gender you identify as

It can be hard and pretty awkward to talk about sexuality with your parents, so more power to you! I came out as a polyamorous pansexual (or polypan) to my family about a month ago. They were cool with it, but they had to ask me what that meant (I come from a heteronormative island community. Not necessarily homophobic but they said the attitude to sexualities has improved in the past 20 or so years). Bixesual means you're attracted to both men and women. It doesn't technically matter if that's romantically or sexually...but that's getting VERY technical. I say define yourself as whatever you want to define yourself as. If you're looking for a definition, bisexual is the easiest way other people would be able to understand what you like.

Yeah it's complicated because there are certain things like biromantic but asexual where you aren't sexually attracted to either but you are romantically attracted to both. There is also the opposite where you are bisexual but aromantic. I guess it would probably bisexual homoromantic (I'm not sure if that's the correct terminology) but you define yourself in whatever way you see fit and if calling yourself bi makes sense then that's fine. Sexuality is fluid and as long as you feel comfortable with what you identify with nobody should tell you you're wrong ❤️

well, I'm bi and I'm not out yet, but I act like a completly straight girl: long hair, no cuffed jeans, no converse shoes, no leather/jeans jackets, never wore shorts, no signs of bisexuality in my room...

I don't think that it's necessary for bi persons to do this or have that (I'm bi too, and it doesn't disturb me or smth). You don't identify yourself bi considering you cuff your jeans, but that you're able to fall in love with men and women... And this stuff like shoes oder jackets is nice... But when you feel yourself better without or don't think to do/have this, it's also OK and nobody can say that you're not bi. (I'm sry for my English, I'm German)

I am a straight ally but I would never consider for a moment that we need a flag, nor have I ever felt excluded for not having a specific flag aimed at me. I always just flew the more common rainbow flag for gay men. Didn't even know there were all of these different flags. I honestly thought the rainbow just represented all people of all stripes and colours. Not to say that this doesn't make sense, but I just didn't know all of this. Very informative, thank you... Also, do I actually have to use the straight ally flag? I don't want to have to seek that out, I am lazy. Is it cool if I continue to fly the same flag? I don't care if people make the assumption that I am homosexual, so that's my plan but I guess I should ask what is preferred by the people that I am supposed to be an ally of.
