That keyboard player is Oliver Palotai, husband of Simone Simons of Epica. It still surprises me that reactors are shocked when any member of a metal band shows their skill in playing. People MASSIVELY underestimate the training of many of these metal musicians.

Not to forget Palotai is a classical trained pianist. And metal is all about showing the own musical excellence. That is one key part of it: Not only the singer stands out. Similar to jazz.

Love this reaction. Roy is such a unique singer, with so much expressiveness in the way he pronounces his words and applies different tone. His performance on stage always looks like he is lost in the music, like it's flowing through him. And of course his voice and timbre is so rich and gorgeous. The female vocalist here is Mari Youngblood, the guitar player's wife. Kamelot traditionally has the crowd sing along to a different song, 'Forever', and there's a great recording of that from the same concert DVD (One Cold Winter's Night). The thing he says at the end is "tusen takk" or 'thanks so much' in Norwegian.

17:34 I think you're spot on. This particular performance was at the end of a very long and demanding show. Roy is spot on amazing through the whole show (you should check it out!) but I also feel in this last song you can see him struggle and simplify it down a lot. Not trying to take anything away from Roy. He's my favorite singer ever. I just appreciate that you're the only reaction I've seen that mentions it. Most other reaction channels are way too scared of saying anything remotely critical of the performance they're reacting to, even when it's obvious.

These three songs were in the middle of the show or thereabout. He wasn't tried on the "goblin voice" bits, it's the inner evil dark voice in the theatrical performance, same on the recorded version. Also i'm thinking you found him more resonant when he went "aah oooh aah oooh" in Fall from Grace because of microphone placement as well as simply belting in a clean mixed voice. All these different techniques cost him his ability to maintain the voice at that level sadly and he left the band, voice was sounding strained very few years after this performance. Yes they have 3 backing vocalists, 2 female 1 male, during this performance. His singing has a big place on the stage because Kamelot only uses 1 guitarist, 1 keyboard player and 1 base player, not 2 guitarists like most bands, hence his voice doing more work but also having more room to fill. I love this, the "old" Kamelot, so pleasant to listen to. Never annoying or harsch or "too much" in those years. Mainly due to Roy Khans voice but also the sweeeet guitar!

Worth noting that Roy is a rich baritone, borderline bass. The range in which he seems "comfortable," as you said it, should probably be relatively high in his range. It's rather unreasonable how rich his voice is low and how powerful it is high. Fun to see you cover this -- as others have said, go through the rest of the concert :)

Roy Zayn? You say it with such confidence you got me questioning the few things I do know :P And I think with Kamelot they do have a few moments that just fit great. Like in Forever, people start chanting before the singer even gets a chance to let people know this is when the singalong starts. Though to be fair, every concert of theirs I've been to, I just sang along to it all, lost my voice like 5/6 times? Anytime they play Sailorman's Hymn I just have to sing along.

He does do a lot of modifications in this performance, but they seem almost seamless, especially if you're not familiar with the original recording. He does have incredible range, and power metal concerts like these are full of moments where you can and are practically expected to sing along. His voice is struggling just a bit here, I think he is a bit tired. You can hear the amount of energy he has to use to move through passaggio and his voice doesn't always comply right away, hence the melodic modifications. Once he's centered in that part of his voice its all good though.

Now this group is the second most popular in the genre after Nightwish. About this Coach Reaction - First He got hes name wrong. Its Roy Khan not Roy Zane. And i was suprised that he made very little comment about when he sung in hes chest voice at the beginning. And at the part III he didn't go an Octave lower, it was ment to be like that - he was being expressive and like making two voices at the same, like singing two narratives. It seems to me that this critic did not really delve into Roy's singing and evaluated everything rather superficially. A rather dry and unresponsive reaction. I have noticed that vocal teachers want to classify voice types and ways of singing. And automatically put the frame in a song. Roy's voice is not within these frames, they have their own character and their own uniqueness, which gives it almost its own essence. But, of course, not everyone is able to dive deeply into emotions and feel aspects of the soul - which is practically in every word in Roy's singing. And that's why Roys is my favorite musician. But despite the content, I'm glad that the reaction to Roy's singing has increased, it means that his name will get more recognition that he deserves!
