Funny you would say that about burning calories for the drummer, this is what the drummer said in an interview (paraphrasing from a translation from Japanese): Megitsune is a nice slower song between the fast songs, I can really get in the grove. :-) Babyemtal is going to celebrate their 10 year existence, so that's true :-)

@@Happymali10 I've also heard a Kami band member mention that in slower songs you have to also take a lot of care. Because with those songs it's easier for the listener to notice mistakes (oppose to fast songs, a small mistake between all the other notes might not be as noticeable for most listeners).

Having only recently discovered them this last month, im blown away that i haven't heard about them more even though they've been going for 10 years now. I totally understand that feeling, something i haven't felt since i first started listening to heavier metal bands like KIllswitch and In Flames. Babymetal is about to light a fire on music and i'm so here for it.

I'm 47. I haven't had that feeling before Babymetal since the first time i heard Metallica in highschool. What Babymetal reminds me of is hearing 'Barracuda' by Heart on the radio when i was 5 years old. They were heavy and had a great female vocalist.

Was that the last show before the virus? Have they done any shows since then? Are they planning to play live again or do you think they are finished, considering 1) They are getting older 2) The loss of their favorite guitarist 3) The retirement of Yui-metal ??

Some people told you that this was the last show where they played with a fake band. I would add that that they used to have to use actors miming instruments for budget purposes. They just didn't have enough to hire session musicians talented enough to play their songs. After this concert and the success they had with the few songs played by a real band, they never looked back. It just went on another level after this concert.

This show took place in december 2013. The band in this video (Babybones) are just miming playing the instruments. Later in the same concert the Kami Band took over (you saw them in your Headbanger video). This was basically the last show they used the fake "playback" band.

You asked for a story about Babymetal, so here's one of mine. The first time I saw them in Tivoli, Utrecht. A beautiful and cosy place, about 2.500 capacity. Support act was Dreamstate, a very good band with an incredible sound. Already the evening felt very good, little did I know what was in store for us. After 15 minutes of silence, suddenly the curtain dropped in a flash, and there they were, wearing incredible outfits looking like black mass priestesses and priests, the whole scene bathing in an ominous red red light, and a great wall of sound rolled over the stunned audience. I still get goosebumps remembering it! The concert became a rollercoaster of heavy music, wonderful dancing and the sweetest voice I ever heard in my life, the voice of Su-metal. The best night of my life, music wise of course, lol. Babymetal and Bandmaid are, in my opinion, among the best live bands in the world today. Hope you enjoyed my little tale.

Good reaction - and you're right about what Babymetal do to you. I thought I really liked quite a few bands and was a serious fan of maybe three or four other bands in the past. After discovering Babymetal it turns out that with those other bands (even my absolute favourites) I just liked their music, bought some albums and concert tickets and listened to their music (after the initial enthusiasm) just every now and then when I was 'in the mood'. Babymetal is the only band where I have to listen to the music and watch their videos every day (for about 4 years now and counting) and the only band where I wanted to find out more about where they came from, who they are, how they came to be Babymetal and how they evolved to become what and who they are. With even my most favourite bands there are some songs I don't like or will skip - so far that is not the case with Babymetal (although there were a couple of songs that I had to wait to see and hear a live version to appreciate them). Babymetal live concerts ... fortunately I have now finally managed to see them twice. I have been to some great concerts, some really good concerts and a few bad concerts over the past too many years and among them I saw some of the recognised great bands in their prime. The Babymetal shows were as good or better than even the best shows I went to and as a live band they are right up there.

Excellent reaction. As far as the drummer, there are stories I've seen that say on occasion he's had to be carried off stage after a show. And you're correct concerning how hard these young ladies work, especially when they were still in school. I heard a reactor from the UK, a guy that taught english in Japan, say he couldn't imagine what their schedule was like because it wasn't unusual for kids there to put in up to 12 hours a day between school, homework, various clubs & other school activities. And then I saw this from a 'Rolling Stone' interview in 2015: ROLLING STONE: "What’s a typical day of rehearsal like?" SU-METAL: "As you know, we have to go to school, so we can only practice after school. So, we do about 4 hours after." That's serious dedication, especially at that age! 🦊🤘

Megitsune might arguably be the one of the biggest fan favorits. It might not be the best one for everybody, but it is the one that everybody will agree on that they like! I saw them live in Tilburg (NL) this year and was planning to see them again in Utrecht last june aswell. It was just a small venue, but the amount of energy the girls and the band (it was the west Kami) give off is just insane!!!! I know that feeling. I am a bit older, so for me the band was The Ramones. It's hard to explain a concert. On the one hand it's a metal dance party with the kindest, most diverse set of firneds you've ever known. On the other the band is brutal and adorable, both off the hook at the same time. They are relentless on stage, and it's a sensory overload. I have seen them many times, but one was in 2017 at a festival. When they hit the stage their energy was palpable, and much greater than the preceeding bands. Though the following acts, Stone Sour and Korn, matched it. The drummer was a machine, and the first pits of the day opened up. Go see them if you get a chance, they really don't dissapoint.

Another great Babymetal reaction! Every Babymetal dance move is not only meticulously planned by their choreographer (who after 10 years of working with Babymetal was due to have a much more relaxed time for a few months while she organised the choreography for the opening ceremony at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics before returning to work as usual, but covid intervened) but is worked on by the girls until it's perfect. Their producer likes to 'test' them during rehearsals by having mikes and earpieces cut out or the music or lighting failing and expecting them to dance through it all and not miss a beat. Yui fell a few metres off the stage during Headbanger at Budokan (while 55,000 fans watched) but returned for the next song (they put some barriers up for the 2nd night's performance), in which Moa got through it all after twisting her ankle and with tears in her eyes. These girls can tough it out with any Metal band...and I know who my money would be on! I've heard Su has a breath control exercise where she runs full speed on a treadmill before leaping off to sing a verse. Every movement, shape or step they make is an expression of the words in the song too. The drummer is apparently atomic powered, though that might be just a rumour. An epic performance - with awesome dancing and a solo from 2 guitarists, the bassist and drummer at the start - is Catch Me If You Can, the best Metal song about playing Hide and Seek ever! Here's a version with English subtitles too - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJibhpKgZcyjgqs

To be fair, this was an early performance were they played with a fake band (the skeleton guys). The music was a backing track, only the vocals were live. So no drummers were harmed in the creating of this video. :-) I have only been a fan for three years and have been to four shows, all of them smaller ones (about 2000 people, one of them in Cologne this year). It's different from those huge Japanese shows, of course, but it's still a fantastic experience. The energy is awesome, as is the atmosphere among fans. But the best thing is seeing the girls' smiles up close. :-D Funny that you are mentioning the teenager story. I was a huge Iron Maiden fan back in the day and bought everything I could find. My favourite bands after that were Metallica and the Dream Theater, but I had calmed down regarding the merchandise. But BABYMETAL relit the fire, it's even "worse" than in my teen years, my walls are plastered and my wallet is empty. If you think the crowd can't get any more hyped than this, please check out the same song at the Metrock festival: www.dailymotion.com/video/x5fak8n

Another great reaction, man! I totally get and agree with you on that feeling from being a teenager. I haven't bought any band merch in almost 20 years, but I sure as hell have bought a few BABYMETAL things in the last few months since becoming a fan! As for the video and some of your questions/comments. First off, you are super close on the pronunciation of the title. It is pronounced "Mey-git-sue-ney" with "ts" sounding like you would say it in Mitsubishi. The music video is just gorgeous and you should at least watch it on your own time, although a reaction would be awesome! It is all shot at a temple in Japan and you see the girls, especially Yui and Moa just having a blast during it. In regards of the band, it is important to check out who you see behind them. This video, just like "Gimme Chocolate" you will see people in skeleton costumes. They are called the "Baby Bones" and are just actors pantomiming that they are playing. The actual Kami Band came out during the encore only at this time, I believe, but someone can fact check me on that one. The music was just being played on a backing track for this video (unlike GC where they played the studio version of the song over video of the performance). Finally, as to the song itself, you mentioned seeing them doing the fox sign, or the kitsune, in the video. A kitsune is a male fox, whereas a megitsune is a female fox, or a vixen. This is kind of a women's empowerment song because kitsunes are considered shape-shifters who change their appearance in order to deceive people. They are singing about how women in Japan always have to put on a different face and smile and be polite because of how Japanese culture is, but they don't do it to deceive. (again, if I'm off, I'm hoping someone will fact check me) The part of the song where the music breaks and Su says the line "Otome wa nametara ikan zeyo" and does a kick to the air, roughly translated means, "Maidens should not be underestimated." It is a pretty awesome part of the song AND in the video has a great visual moment that I won't spoil for you. Keep bringing the BABYMETAL reactions!

Very nice reactions, I can basically experience through your reaction what I felt (and still feel) with them when I watch their stuff or go to their concerts! Sadly at this concert most of their songs were still from a backing track without their band, so its one of my least favourite. The crowd tho was absolutely phenomenal and its pure joy to watch the audience! Still prefer their "live sound", but thats of course just a personal opinion. Megitsune is always a blast! Sadly that is the mime band at the back called Babybones, not Kamiband at that performance. "Megitsune" (メギツネ,) was released in Japan on June 19, 2013 as the fifth single from the album Babymetal. It is also the first single released independently from the idol group Sakura Gakuin. the full music video, directed by Takuya Tada (多田卓也), uploaded to the official Babymetal channel on June 4, 2013. Unlike screams in traditional heavy metal, "Megitsune" is filled with festival chants by Yui Metal and Moa Metal like "wasshoi" and "sore sore", while Su Metal sings in the melodramatic style of enka. Commentary from BabyMetal for this MV: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qommdGxpid2npNk The music video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo; it is now a popular spot for Babymetal fans from outside Japan to visit. The three members are shown dancing in Noh theater. In the last chorus, The song contains lyrics such as "from the time of birth, women are actresses" which reflect on the song's theme of women remaining strong when living with their varied facial expressions. The song relates foxes, which disguises themselves for deception in Japanese mythology, to women, who disguise themselves with makeup. According to Su Metal. foxes are similar to women as they can keep their true feeling hidden, even through hard times, leaving a cool impression. The last chorus contains the phrase "underestimate [maidens] at your own peril" (なめたらいかんぜよ, nametara ikan ze yo, literally "if you underestimate, it would be regrettable"), which is also famously said by Masako Natsume's character in the 1982 yakuza film "Onimasa"; whether or not this was intentional has never been confirmed.

Just FYI, all vowels are pronounced in Japanese (generally...there are exceptions of course , such as certain foreign words integrated into Japanese), so the song is pronounced may-git-soo-nay. It means vixen (female fox). I have seen Babymetal live several times and they just put on very fun shows - some of the best around in the world today. The theatrical elements of their shows and the energy is infectious. Unfortunately, even though I've been two Japan a couple of times, I've never gotten to see one of their live shows there - which I'd really like to do, because, based on the Blu-Rays of their Japan concerts, those shows are just next-level awesome.

I would add that one notable exception is that a "u" following an "s" is often not vocalized. Like Akatsuki is pronounced Akatski. Desu is pronounced Des. And is the reason Su-metal has the dash; to indicate the "u" is to be pronounced. Suzuka is written in Kanji, so other rules apply.

That fire you're talking about, I felt it first with Celldweller like 6-7 years ago, Asking Alexandria, Motionless In White and then Babymetal. The MIW and Babymetal fires stayed lit the longest for me. DIfference for me is that metal has never been my lifestyle in that sense, and probably never will be. This performance of Megitsune was one of the videos that persuaded me to get all their albums. I thought the music video was decent (now it's my 2nd fav song), but this live video...WOW! I've seen them live twice in London. Megitsune is definitely a highlight; one of the songs that has the whole crowd jumping up and down. I've seen hundreds of bands, large and small, and can honestly say that Babymetal are at the top of the list for pure joy and fun. People can be very prejudiced and purist and say that they are a manufactured band and so on, and maybe they are, but you just have to be in the room to appreciate that it works. And as you pointed out, the amount of hard work that goes into a show like this has to be acknowledged. Power to them, I'll see them every chance I get.

You will find Makuhari Messe and Budokan only in KZbin, because for some reason are the only concerts Amuse doesn't block. But, those two aren't even their best shows. You can find some crazy Babymetal stuff out there. The song is one of their best. It is a lament about the pain of women and how they must hide their hurt soul behind a mask and act appropiately. Megistune means literally female fox, as Kitsune is fox and Me is a female marker. 🦊

What I've seen you express is how I reacted when I first heard (dating myself here) Gatecrasher sets. It was new (to me then) and just mindblowing. I want to experience BM sets because I *know* already that feeling I got from certain White Zombie and Oakenfold and Tiesto live sets when they were on fire. I left exhausted and drenched because of that visual and aural energy and crowd control. I want to lose myself to this fusion of powerful beats and vocals so bad. Shanti Shanti Shanti?

Ahh Megitsune - one of the fan favourites and always gets the audience going hard. I have seen them live 3 times, once in 2019 and twice in 2020. Quite simply they blew me away. Intense is an understatment they give 110% from start to finish and the audience is equally as committed. There are unwritten rules for each song.. your sing along with the Moa parts NEVER the Su parts, many songs have a call/response bit or specific movements (e.g. Headbangeerrrr is a kind bowing movement with arms raised or with PA PA YA! we all bring and wave towels.). As for the dancing - this is choreographed by Mikiko-metal. She is one of Japan's leading dancers and choreographers. Incidently she was the stage director and choreographer for Japan's cultural presentation at the 2016 Summer Olympics closing ceremony (yeah THAT good). She has said of Su " is not particularly good at dancing, but rather she makes the movements on her own to the point that she rebuilds the song through the expression of her abilities. And if she is required to simply extend her arms she will do it in a way that emotionally moves those watching her." She also says that even in rehearsals Su always treats it like a live performance and gives it her all. (It should be noted she has known and trained with Su since Su was performing at 8yo).

I got to see the live last year at the Hard Rock in Orlando. It was the kickoff for their American tour. It was amazing. Avatar was the opening act. The stage wasn’t huge like the arena shows but boy did they tear down the roof. I never wanted the concert to end. It was amazing. Even to this day it leaves me speechless. Great Reactions by the way. Keep up with BABYMETAL reactions. Also welcome to the Fox hole that you can’t escape from. Lol.

Thanks fro your reaction from Japan 有難う💛。 Hmm, you covered "Megitsune", "Headbangeerrr" and "Karate (official)". So you are at the entrance of a cathedral named "BABYMETAL". If you want to know totally different aspects of them, how about these ? : ① "No rain, No Rainbow" in Japan (2017) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnXKoqJsm8ifn7s" ② "Oh! Majinai" from European tour (2020) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/fV7RaXejetmckKM ▶① Beautiful ballad, so sad but heavy as well. Su-Metal is called "Queen", that's why. ▶② Comical and bouncing performance supported by US-Kami

I agree I haven't felt that feeling for a long time tell I herd them they have such an energy that just gets u pumped and her voice give me chills every time I never thought I could get in to a group this much and I don't even know what there saying but yet find my self captivevated by them and the band is beyond anything I have herd they stay in great shape that's for Shure with all the arobics they do lol I would not be able to keep up with them and each song is like a mystery box u never know what you are going to get but seeing these older videos I really miss yui she brought such energy to the group

What I would start to recommend before doing a Babymetal reaction video is to check the lyrics, just the lyrics. This song is really meaningful. Is the girl power/ feminist anthem of this band, and it''s quite different from any other song related to this topic. Every time Su says "women shouldn't be underestimated" literally chills. Its my favourite song so far.
