To get good performance from my TP-Link powerline adapter, I had to try to many different electrical sockets. I used TP Link's tpPLC program in Windows to check the powerline bandwidth of each adapter in different sockets to find the socket with the highest bandwidth. However, this was only to get the best bandwidth for additional wifi router. In the end my desktop upstairs has a better connection through wifi on a router connected to a powerline adapter than it did have a powerline adapter right beside the PC & connected via ethernet.

Thats the way to do it for speed. Did u manage to test ping wired vs wireless?
@brunofunnie5 жыл бұрын
It would be great if you had tested the ping/latency, transferring files doesn't actually have THAT impact but when streaming or gaming is very important to have a decent ping ( less than 70ms ~ 100ms )

Is there a relationship between speed and range - as there is for wifi bands 2.4 ghz and 5ghz ? To clarify - would a powerline device rated at 1gb provide a better range over power cables than a 2gb powerline adapter ?
@ricco123tube4 жыл бұрын
In my experience the faster the powerline adapter the longer the range. However, it isn't as scalable as the numbers might suggest and if long range and high speed is the aim, go fully wired. If you just need a decent internet connection in another location, then they are ok. I move some large files so I am now fully wired.

@ricco123tube4 жыл бұрын
Depends on distance, quality of wiring and obviously the speed of your internet. If you have 500mbps internet then there is no way you'll get that at the other end, but if you have 75mbps for example, then thats very achievable.
@PeteWylieRC5 жыл бұрын
That is a really big difference isn't it? I might run a cable to the man cave one day if I can be bothered!

Good video - I thought mine are crappy, but it's good to see that the way it is.... I have 1Gbit version and withing an apartment they max out at around 20MB/s. Whats more, they show link speed of ~400Mbps. For me this is total advertising bs, a they are not 1Gbit but rather 500Mbps each way, and they can't even deliver that. Doing a large backup (800GB) takes ages.... Nowadays you can get 600Mbps or higher internet connection in my area, so that would be a waste to use this. I think I would be better of with some fast Wifi :)

In theory yes. Also, the farther away from one another the better performance the higher speed adapters are. Order from a retailer that allows returns, but I'm sure you will be happy.

I'm looking to hook up these between two mesh nodes on AV1200. What I always wondered was would the mesh nodes perform better over powerline, or using the wireless mode? Reading stuff online about internode connection over powerline being worse in cases due to the av2000 or lower models reaching nowhere near their advertised transfer rates.

from my experience even with running them in brand new homes over short cable runs on brand new thick lines you will never ever see them at the rated speeds of the unit. its always better to just get a av300 av500 becuase thats about the sweet spot you get in a near perfect condition cable and outlet. they will never be a subsitute for a cat6 cat 5 cat whatever cable.

@@ricco123tube btw I have also plenty of experience with these powerline kind of things. I will share some info here, what I have learned to improve the results. Me and my brother both happens to live in the same house, but in different apartments, both on the 5th floor. We share internet via powerline and it works well (and my brother will pay half the bill). In the beginning (when I had 100 or 150 mbps, he only got 30 mbps out from his wifi router (connections were like this. Directly from my internet source (a switch?) connected to powerline, then in my brother's apartment at the entrance (mirrored from my apartment, in the entrance hall, I. E shortest possible distance, though still down and up 5 floors somehow?), the other powerline which was then connected to his wifi router in his kitchen via ethernet cables pre-installed in the apartment). So, with an AV300 or AV500 (don't even remember now) and an old N-router, he got 30 mbps (and response time 15 ms). (while I had 100 mbps which was later, at first increased to 150 mbps). Then, still later, after that, I changed internet provider to 250 mbps at the source, and we upgraded his router to a really good ac router (because his old could not make more than 30 mbps in any case), and a 'new' AV600 powerline, and his router received - and was also able to broadcast at - 70 mbps (response time 8 ms). And an hour ago, just now, we upgraded the powerline to AV2, tp link AV1000 (which I was able to buy for 10 USD as new but 2nd hand), and now his router both receives and transmits at 140+ mbps and is stable and response time over at his wifi of 5 ms (though the response time at his powerline is 3 ms). If we want to improve it further, though we don't really need more, we are very happy with what we got now, but anyway, then we would go for tp link av1200 with ground connection and mimo, which I can buy second hand for 20 USD, or the even better AV2000 though ten times more expensive and not available 2nd hand). ____ More information. My ethernet connection is, at the moment 250 mbps, and my own 5 GHz ac router has 240 mbps in most of my apartment. Our new AV2 powerline, when setting it up, was able to deliver 173 mbps while in the same room fairly close to each other (and 3 ms response time). When moving the receiving powerline into my brother's apartment, we got 140 mbps (up- and download) and his good router puts ut 100 % of that (I. E. also 140 mbps).

But there is everything wrong in the cabling. That's why your speed is so shitty. You should read about HF on powerline and with that knowledge, you can do a lot more speed out of these adapters.
@ricco123tube3 жыл бұрын
Of course you can get a lot more speed with different scenarios. The point is most people who are not tech savvy will buy these, plug them in, and get on with things.
@mz86093 жыл бұрын
If you could fix your cabling you would not be using PoweLine adapter but rather put proper LAN cables and enjoy hi speed network. I have "near perfect" conditions, adapters plugged in directly to power sockets, they report speed close to max (~400Mbps in tpPLC utility) and still transfer rate is just around 15-25MB/s.
