I suppose that keeps their options open. Also, it helps the DIY-er know what can happen when making such an engine swap. I don't know how many hot rod builds go way over budget because there were changes that the owner didn't anticipate.

They hardly ever do, it's all about slapping the parts on that were given to them for free by sponsors. Unless one of the staff buys them I think these vehicles are usually sold/auctioned off after they're done with them.

3:35 Stay away from P/S racks that have carelessly sprayed black paint. Usually they only last one year. Spend the extra money to get one was that rebuilt by an OEM supplier. The higher price is offset by the reduced frustration of having to do the job over and over. Sure, I can't warn the people who made this, show, but I can warn any DIY-er watching this video. Whether you are an amateur or pro, just stay away from cheap rebuilt P/S racks. 4:10 This is one reason I prefer driving German cars over other American and Japanese cars. They trade some suspension comfort for better cornering. Sure, they don't use solid P/S rack mounts, but they tend to use a stiffer grade of rubber on P/S rack bushings. However, when I have to do maintenance and repairs, I don't like German cars. 7:20 alignment machines test this automatically. If a stock suspension has an incorrect Ackermann measurement, some component is damaged and must be replaced. Adjusting other suspension parts does no good. 10:55 I love when auto manufacturers do this to their cars. The batteries tend to last twice as long on average when the battery is not under the hood, and last dramatically longer if the underhood space is far too tight. My mom's (And practically everyone's) 1985 Nissan Maxima never got much life out of batteries due to blazing underhood temperatures, and very little clearance between the battery and all the other components underhood. I intend to buy an Evo X in the future, and they were all built with the battery mounted in the backseat. 13:30 Another thing that can happen when a driveshaft gets loose. The engine immediately overrevs. Since you are using EFI, that won't be a problem. With non-computerized engines, it is recommended to buy a rev limiter module for your ignition distributor. That saves your engine when the driveshaft breaks loose.

It's amusing to see a lecture on Akerman Geometry for a chassis with the steering on the wrong side of the front axle line. Even more so for handling on a pickup chassis. Hope everything gets stripped down and the chassis cleaned properly, before painting and coating so it doesn't rust away from bare welds.

All that suspension talk and we are not told how the Ackerman was set or re established in view of the fact the front axle was moved. Then there is the matter of cost. We see all these custom parts going on to a vehicle, but no mention of the cost. Is all this stuff for free?

If memory serves me correctly when I replaced my front hubs on my 2000 Mustang GT, the torque spec on the hub nut is around 250 - 300 ft lbs. I don’t think the little ug a duggas you gave it was close to spec.

Enchanted Wenis Sometimes they mention it, but these shows always take these cars and trucks apart again before sending everything out to get painted, so they hardly ever show things being torqued properly during the build process.
