I have this exact Jeep and the only thing still stock is the engine and transmission, it's got the 3.8l and standard auto transmission pushing around big armor and big tires. Running 37/12.50/R20s, the stock engine does fairly decently with the extra large tires. Minus fuel economy around 7-8mpg, but you're not building a Prius! If my engine ever goes I'll think about following this video as a guide and replace it with a V8 Hemi instead of the stock replacement! I'm glad you included links to the other sellers as well so I can also buy these parts easily if the time comes to swap!

I'm just happy it's not an LS. It really is an engine that realistically could have come in the Wrangler, and while I don't care about Jeeps at all, I'm appreciative of it not being an LS.
@deeremeyer174911 ай бұрын
No. It realistically could not have come in the Wrangler. The only JK engine "option" is the 3.8 V6, "real" Jeeps have never had engines larger than 304 cubic inches and only the "Jeep" SUVs "based" on the Dodge Durango "platform" have ever had or been able to practically, reliably and durably use more than 200 horsepower and the vast majority of those are 4.7 Hemi powered. Only SRT "Jeeps" have ever been "developed" to "harness" 5.7-liter multi-port EFI high-compression engine output. And if you think an "upgrade" like that is going to turn a Wrangler into a "truck" and enable real "towing" and even light-duty 1/2-ton pickup "payload" capacity you're smoking crack. "Handling" will also suffer significantly and the "upgraded" Jeep will be a clumsy, nosediving, oversteering, rear end swinging nightmare during "spirited driving". "Burning in" parts like engine mounts also instantly "totals" the vehicle for KBB purposes and it'll have a "salvage title" if - not when since there is no vehicle harder to "flip" than an "upgraded" Jeep - it has a new "caretaker". Or as soon as its in a "fender bender" and an insurance adjuster OR collision repair professional lays eyes on those "upgrades" after an accident during "appraisal". And since there is no way to "replace" and/or "rebuild" an "upgraded" vehicle to make the owner "whole" again, it's guaranteed "totalled" and the payout will be "blue book" MINUS whatever "quote" the collision professional comes up with to repair a "stocker" with similar damage AND actual residual value to justify "fixing" it. If you want a Hemi-powered "Jeep" AND a way more capable, comfortable and practical "off roader" and "daily driver" you don't a "real" Jeep and "upgrade" it.
@mattbarrett413 жыл бұрын
Teraflex makes CV ends for stock driveshafts that have wider flanges and heavier boots for lifted Jeeps. They’re $150 a piece. Much cheaper than new shafts, and they stand up to heavy wheeling.
@deeremeyer174911 ай бұрын
The flanges and boots have nothing to do with how "heavy duty" a CV joint is and there is essentially no way to make a CV joint more "heavy duty" without making it larger. And "heavy duty" CV joints will be no more reliable than stockers if other "upgrades" increasing lift and/or "horsepower" and/or drivetrain load - larger tires do it automatically - are installed. There is nowhere an "upgraded" but still "street legal" Jeep on DOT tires can go that a stocker on good "all terrain" tires cannot WITH a competent "driver" AND there are tons of places the stocker will go because it FITS that the "upgraded" Jeep can't go no matter what. Decades ago one of the main 4WD mags - either Four Wheeler or 4 Wheel & Off-Road put a bone stock "flatfender" Jeep CJ3A on the "grandaddy" of all off-road trails - the Rubicon which is a dry riverbed "littered" end-to-end with REAL granite rocks from Pet Rock size to Jeep size in the Sierra Nevadas - for REAL rockcrawling and "conquered" the trail with zero damage, zero drama, "grave digger" military non-directional tires and a bone-stock 4-cylinder flathead "Go Devil" engine making all of about 55 horsepower under the hood. HUNDREDS of purpose-built "rockcrawlers" built from and into Jeeps of ALL CJ "generations" with every imaginable "upgrade" have been broken by the Rubicon and usually in the "mildest" sections that involve only finding the right "line" because they won't FIT in the right "line" between boulders and in "chutes". Putting light-duty pickup truck powertrain and drivetrain "upgrades" in a 1/4-ton Jeep with "marginal" driveline angles and nowhere near enough wheelbase to "straddle" obstacles two at a time has always been a recipe for disaster and the same parts that are "bulletproof" in a light truck as long as it's not "upgraded" grenade with regularity in Jeeps because they have such short rigid frames and crappy "articulation" as well as insufficient weight and a practical center of gravity and track width to "stick" off-road. One or more tires is always "airborne", lockers are a must in the axles, no obstacle can be "negotiated" in 4WD high much less 2WD - GOOD "off road" vehicles only need 4WD "occasionally" to get OUT of trouble they drive into "effortlessly" in 2WD and - and a ridiculous "crawl ratio" is required with the stupid tall tires, automatic trans or "highway" manual trans and there is NO "upgrade" for driveline angles in ANY "upgraded" live-axle 4WD least of all Jeeps AND most "upgrades" to powertrains - such as transmission and transfer case "swaps" AND axle "swaps" that put a "beefier" axle WITH a longer "nose" on the differential housing result in even worse driveline angles because the shafts have to get shorter even in situations where they should be longer "on paper". Most "builders" that ever "upgrade" live-axle trucks with "heavy duty" axles and lift kits simultaneously expect to have to lengthen driveshafts and are "shocked" to find the axle swap has shortened the "yoke to yoke" distance as much as the lift has lengthened it and then some. And nobody makes driveshaft "stretchers" AND the slip yoke(s) is not there to "compensate" for "minor changes" to yoke to yoke distance during suspension "cycling". Damn near never does the driveshaft in a live-axle vehicle EVER need to "stretch" or "shrink" during suspension "cycling" and slip yokes are ONLY there so the driveshaft can "shrink" for installation and removal.

200 hp is plenty for that little jeep.

0-60 in 10 seconds would say otherwise. That is absolutely pathetic. My 5500 lb Silverado (which is about 1500 lbs heavier than the Wrangler)would beat that by several seconds without trying. Put a set of bigger tires, bumpers, winch, etc on it and it would struggle to get to highway speed without a mile run up.

@@bmstylee I little Jeep is not designed for speed, and unless you have owned one and driven it "dressed up," you have no idea what you're talking about.

@@bartgoins1782 I have driven one "dressed up". They're slow and crude on a good day. And frankly overpriced for what they are. A lot of cheap plastic inside. But hey they make a great girl's car. But enjoy not being able to keep up with traffic because not being built for speed is cool.
