Amazing play. Dubov is definitely on his game right now. In just a couple weeks he'll be in Wijk aan Zee! As you've said in the past GM King, Carlsen likes clarity in a position and Dubov knows how to upset the balance. Perhaps he'll become known as the "Magician from Moscow".

I remember watching Dubov play Carlsen much earlier on in the year and thinking it is only a matter of time. Creative, dynamic, fearless, Sacrificial and brutal. Comparisons between Tal and Dubov are not unjustified. Fantastic player, yes indeed Dude of the year. 2+2 =5 ( The wood is dark indeed.)

All creds to Dubov. A really fantastic and creative player. He knows how to create chaotic and complicated positions. MC, on the other hand, has been struggling in the last three tournaments. I hope he soon will bounce back. He is obvisiouly very frustrated. Normally he would have found Queen A5 in the third game.

I think the reason behind the blunders of these top players might be the time or else the difficult schedule of the tournament like you are playing for 5 consecutive days with four rapid games a day. Ian Nepomniatchi put something like this on his Instagram story too
@PowerPlayChess4 жыл бұрын
When players have little time, they make mistakes, it's very simple. Rapid play randomises so that the top players (in classical chess) don't always win out. Some viewers seem appalled by the blunders ('How could someone that strong play something so bad!'). Others say: 'It's just not right! These players need more time! (Nepo's argument). Others accept the conditions and are simply entertained. I fall into this latter category. We should remember that this is NOT Classical, over-the-board chess, and until players such as Dubov and Firouzja prove themselves in that medium, then I'm going to reserve my predictions.

Could someone please explain to me why Russkies did not select Dubov as a wild card for the world championship challengers tournament? Basicly he was pressing in all the games and deserved the win. Its like in boxing when a guy is in the center the whole game. Due to the immense amount of tension in Chess, I find you use of the word " Pleasant" when reffering to a position an odd choice. I never felt pleasant playing Chess. Only when one wins does one feel pleasant. Methinks Magnus is learning that he needs to sharpen his tactical eye for improvement. Did not Botvinnik say after he was asked after losing his Title to Tal about what would he do now he said-I will study two move problems.??
