I got the chessable course at the very last promotion hours. I must say it's beyond belief how good it explains the concepts behind the opening. Yesterday I gave it the first shot in a tournament against a strong national master who played 6.c4. No need to add that I crushed him on the dark squares and won the game. Thank Dani

You are hands down one of the best trainer that can still somewhat bridge between newer player and higher ELO players. ELO wise my biggest leap comes from coaches that do well with children, but I found that strategically I’m stagnating. I just did the basics and my opponents crumble somewhere along the way. But with your help I can feel clearly that I’m squeezing them out and I know I will win because my opponent just doesn’t even understand what I’m doing and I will win if I don’t drop something tactically. I jumped 1500 to 1700 in a month (online rating), everything just seemed to click and I even drop 1800 quite often when I was sub 1700 because of the confidence I have with my plans on the board.

I don't have my book in front of me, but James Eade and Nick deFirmian co-wrote the tournament book for the 1995 Pan-Pacific tournament in San Francisco. (Korchnoi won ahead of Nunn, Gulko, deFirmian, Hubner, Browne, Sofia Polgar, Xie Jun, Tisdall, Ashley, and Waitzkin) One of the early round Sicilians was a Kalashnikov, about which deFirmian wrote, "This is a variation of the Sicilian that is so new it doesn't even have a name yet."

The name ‘The Kalashnikov’ was coined by the Dutch Grandmaster John van der Wiel - in the late 1980s.

At 7:39 why did white not capture on c6? I think it is key to explain why black has the luxury to play f6 and let the c pawn unprotected

At 7:29 is there a reason the c pawn should not be taken? I didn't find anything clear

It's possible, but Black gets a good grip on key squares: 18 Qxc6 Rac8 followed by ...Bc4, rooks in the middle. A very pleasant position for Black.

There was a time in my youth (probably the 1980ies) when Bjarke Sahl was Danish and named Bjarke Kristensen. He was already an IM and felt sure he would some day become a GM. He said so in a radio interview with the journalist Kjeld Koplev who wasn't really a chess player, but during the interview they played a game nonetheless. Surprisingly Bjarke's position got worse and worse after a slightly dubious opening, which he no doubt thought he could get away with, considering the opposition. But his "weak" opponent was relentless! But just as the time of resignation approached, Koplev revealed that really Bjarke was playing against Thorbjørn Rosenlund who was sitting in the next room, and who was and still is the editor of Skakbladet, the official organ of the Danish Chess Federation, and a fairly strong player of about 2300 with a good eye for tactics. Unfortunately we the listeners couldn't follow the game very well, because although Koplev named all of Bjarke Kristensen's moves (for the benefit of Rosenlund), he mostly only said "I think I'll play this move" when he heard Rosenlund's response in his headphones. Nevertheless it was great fun.

'It's a Wonderful Endgame'. Wasn't that an old Jimmy Stewart movie? Or am I thinking of 'Teenage Magnus Ninja Tactics'?

Interesting opening position. I didn't guess Qc7. Nice idea. Always happy to see a Kalashnikov game. I got to play Magnus in a simul at about the same time this game occurred. Magnus was white and we played a Sicilian. I allowed him to play a Keres Attack and incredibly after 18 moves I was ever so slightly better. But that 19th move, Zwischenzug. Blunder. Sigh. :)

I thought Qa5 and if Bd2, then ef. If then Nd5, simply Qd8.

When I play the Kalashnikov my opponents usually play Nf5. Are there any interesting games in that variation?
@PowerPlayChess

I’ll try to dig out a game with 5 Nf5. In principle Black is already fine after 5...d5.
