Brilliant video. Thank you for the time and effort you put in to making these videos. Distilling a 7 hour match like that into easily digestible content is an art.

Keymer looked very impressive to me. Playing the world champion in the first round clearly took a toll on his nerves, plus the length of the game, which is Magnus' strength. I thought Magnus took him a bit off guard with the opening, but Keymer was able to cope and be dynamic. 6+ hours is a long time to endure without making a mistake :)

props to any 14 year old for hanging through 80 moves against Carlsen. I'd put that on my resume any day, even if I lost the game

It's obvious by now that Carlsen has seriously studied all those classic games. He draws inspiration from the past legends instead of memorising computer lines as the new generation's prodigies. Anyway, thank you mr King for your effort!

Thank for the ecellent analyis. Great fight by Keymer. Unfortunately he had spent to much time in the opening. In the end he had not enough time. I was sure Carlsen will win the endgame no matter what the engines said. The move 56. - a5 by Seese is so inhuman. No one would advance his past pawn in this position.

And it’s nice to imagine guys like Carlsen and Caruana seeing their pairing and grumbling, “Nertz, and underrated kid for me today.” Welcome to the club, sirs.

Keymer will massively outperform his 2509 Elo rating. Dismiss him at your peril. I won't be shocked if he steals a win, and he will steal a couple of draws.

Keymer's expected score according to TPR calculations (of 2516 vs. opponents average orating of 2747) is ca. 2 points, btw. So in order to "massively" outperform his rating he would need a win + 4-5 draws.

GM King, thanks for your customary superb analysis. One thing you said resonated particularly with me, and that is how Carlsen often makes critical decisions very quickly. That decisiveness is one of the hallmarks of the top successful people, another of course being relentlessness.

Without Carlsen, current grandmaster chess would be dead. Even Aronian has become boring. More brilliancy prizes? Or invite more Bronsteins to elite tournaments? Can social media presence rise above mere game points?

It's a good tournament, but surely not "fantastic" (with all due respect to the participants). Shamkir was "fantastic". Grenke this year is mid-table if anything. 4 players under 2700 out of 10 isn't enough to qualify it as top-level tournament in my opinion.

In the position you call a "positional draw" what happens if black, instead of playing 32...a5 to make it a dead draw plays 32...b6 with the idea of playing Rg6 and then bringing the now freed king all the way to a6 and a5. Can black make progress`here?
