Totally agree. With modern tunnelling and earth moving machinery, entire stretch from Mumbai to Mangaluru doubling can be completed within 4-5 years. Coastal Karnataka gave enough votes for BJP, but the local leadership is not fighting for infrastructure improvement. Compared to NH-66 expansion that is undertaken in Kerala section, the Karnataka section of NH-66 lacks service roads, overpasses or underpasses, no pedestrian bridges where needed.

doubling of entire section is possible. It would cost around Rs. 20,000 cr. or so. may take 6-8 yrs. But govt priority is for fancy projects.

Dear Admin, I feel lucky to be part of construction of KRCL (1992- 1998) and lived in Cancona. This route itself is very tough and if Railways had built this line it would have taken at least 25yrs which is similar to connecting JnK with Rest of India. Imagine the adverse conditions of terrains filled with Soft Soil & Red soil, how can a PIER with stand such loads and how come tunnels be operational? This project was completed within span of 8yrs by 1998. Do you know in the initial days locals in Konkan region protested against the railway line and many did not give lands for this project. Please read the book - Konkan Railway: A Dream Come True.

You are right. Some in comments Say that double line between j&k if Possible why not in konkan. Firstly Connecting j&k was if strategic Importance rather than economical. Modiji personally looked sfter the Progress of j&k track. You know how Our railway beauracracy works. Doubling og krcl track is neither Strategic neither economical. Today What krcl is doing is much better than What IR eiuld have done. Krcl stations Are also much neat and clean than IR Stations. If construction eork of kokan Railway had been given to IR , the Project would not have completed by Even by 2010, as new IR projects sre Alloted as per political clout, less funds Would have alloted for konkan rsilway. Whereas krcl being a company , there Is some sort of accountability which Helps smooth running of trains. So one Must not compare krcl with IR, as both Are different and work differently. Bullet train requires track formation in straight line or with minimal curvature.. its very difficult to construct bullet train via Kokan. But I agree Mumbai Goa bullet train can be acheived through different route such as considering costal route. Cost would be enormous though

Nothing is impossible. Todays Tunnel Boring Machine is very advanced and Company like L & T, Gammon India, Afcons, Simplex, Ircon can easily finish the doubling project in time. The cost will be less than Cost of Bullet rail track between Ahmedabad- Mumbai. But many of the opnion that Konkan Railway should be acquired by Indian Railway to execute such projects. I don't think Railway Project harms the Forest Area much. Train do not stop in forest area much. This will connect Kochi - Goa - Mumbai which is also essential from defense point of view. Poor people getting neglected at the cost of Ultra Rich.

Unless & until Govt took initiative & allocate special budget to KRCL, doubling is impossible. Land is not an issue for KRCL, but it is a time issue, tunnels + bridges takes long time to construct. Even if they target only Maharashtra + Goa Section congestion will significantly reduce. But for that also they have to target by phases like Veer-Khed, Khed-Chiplun, Chiplun-Sangameshwar, Sangameshwar-Ratnagiri & so on...

The main issue is the bureaucratic delay & budget allocation. Technical issues were more during the initial construction because of unfamiliarity with the terrain & lack of DTBMs at that time. But not all an issue with current level of tunneling technology. And also, in places it is not necessary to connect everything with the current infrastructure. Entirely new section with double line with provision for future expansion can be built for passenger rail & existing infrastructure can be dedicated to RORO.

konkan railways is 700 km long straight single route that passes through some of the richest regions in the country . The only solution is spending billions and make a few dozen wide tunnels and lay 100's of kilometres of viaduct for maintaining speeds of upto 220kmph on avg and designed to handle upto 250 kmph . Just like the planned silver line in kerala ( maybe you could connect it to silver line since silver line will be extended till mangalore) the wider socio economic benifits would easily ouweigh the initial construcion cost . The cost will be north of 30 billion usd if done today ig . But once constructed they ( the govt ) will not have to worry about konkan railways for half a century .

When Indian British govt laid railway track through Bolan pass it made tunnels wide enough to lay double track, yet it laid single track from Sibi to Abigum some 40 miles only. Konkon should have kept the future requirement in mind and would have made tunnels for double track.

मेने 2022 में तिरुवनंतपुरम से दिल्ली राजधानी एक्सप्रेस में इस रूट से यात्रा की थी।मेरे पास इस रूट की उस समय की कई वीडियो भी हैं। भारत में सरकारों द्वारा कोई भी योजना 50 साल के बाद के आकलन पर नहिं बनाई जाती है।यह तात्कालिक मजबूरी को सुलझाने के नाम पर बनाई जाती हैं इसलिए बार-बार परेशानीयां आती है।

Major problem with Konkan railway is fund. They don't have enough income to doubling thier track. They were asking Mangaluru station to add in thier division. But Southern railway holds this station. Merge Konkan railway with indian railway or as Krcl request handover mangaluru station to krcl. They promised in press meet if mangaluru station comes to krcl doubling work will be on Fastrack. Currently in this single track more trains running than its capacity.

Sir ,. Plan start railway projects from BANGALORE to KUNDAPURA Or Udupi directly via tumkuru, Arasikere , and further to Karwar /Goa. Konkan railway tracks are already there from kundapura to . KARWAR to Goa

If there is will, there will be a way. With all the technical and environmental problems, a solution need to be found to make this entire route two track so that trains can run faster. KR shows the lack of vision and foresight of our planners who cannot see beyond a few years. Railway is doing exemplary work in the border areas under extremely challenging conditions and KR should be a cake-walk for them.

Modi ji ne KDFC new route ki 0:06 announcement kiya tha uska kya hua? Any update & Roha to veer work completed 2019 to 20.now operating currently. Between Chiplun & Ratnagiri Ghat section now new bridge construction is working near panval viduct 2 nd bridge. After vilvade to mao working double line easily. The current working operated side line. Main is KR merged to Indian railway then possible doubling

Doubling bridges in a planned manor will also be helpful. Things have to be in a well planned manor like a piece of puzzle systematically joined. By keeping high value investments of tunneling at the end . Time vs investment for every stretch to be worked out. Dual track should be extended & fully utilized with running trains .

KR first mistake in beginning itself plan for double line like Lonavala,now it’s difficult .If they build other line more successful they get past more passengers will travel.It’s Ex.late Madu Dandavathe dream project.
