Good to see you again! The new logo is nice. PR122 is such a lovely color for flowers, and makes some of the most beautiful mixes. A fun mix is with PY129 green gold, gives a range from brownish oranges to a bright near neutral red. And with Phthalo green or blue- just amazing. Mission Gold was my first and favorite, now I have it in 6 different brands. As you say, it seems to be pretty good in most brands.

Ahhh, one of my favorite pigments! Perfect for a CYM palette. This one is quite consistent compared to Quin Rose PV19. My Qor seems slightly brighter but that is true for most Qor. I’ve used up my 15 ml tube of Daniel Smith in this color, because I’ve used this one for testing papers. (I mix up a big wash from the tube and test multiple papers at once….) I use a flat synthetic brush, load it full and make several wet on dry overlapping strokes, without reloading or smoothing (I do it “badly” on purpose). This is a perfect way to see how much the paper “helps” you by redistributing the color. Quins or Phthalos are great for this particular test because the transparency shows the brushstrokes clearly. Sometimes it dries to a perfect field of color with almost no variation, and sometimes the brushstrokes remain just as you laid them, or something in between. I consider it “good” when it smooths out the brushstrokes, but of course, it depends on what you want.

The Winsor and Daniel Smith are quite intense pinks. Winsor by proxy because I have a Cotman set. I love it. PR122 is a great basis for Opera pink as well.

I have only used the Quin Rose from M. Graham. It's really a beautiful paint! The consistency creamy because of the honey and It's also very pigmented as well as being vibrant.

I have QOR and Mijello Misson Gold Pr122 Quin Magenta. Both I like very much. QOR of course flows easily on the paper. I think I like the Daniel Smith one best of the 4 you swatched out. Thank you! 💖

Thanks! I use this color in florals and it looks great, but of the four, I've only used Daniel Smith and Rembrandt as the other two use animal products.

yay! one of my faves! i love any and all PR122s! XD (except vangogh's Rose PR122 because that basically has opaque filler making it not transparent. tsk tsk royal talens) thanks for the vid!

Yes!! I was so excited about trying Van Gogh after hearing Irit rave about them, but both VG and Cotman are disappointing, at least in some colors. My old Cotmans from the 90s have no filler… when I first restarted watercolor last year, I made the mistake of buying a few more… I tried to swatch the Cotman PG 36 and was like, “what is wrong with it?” (I couldn’t get masstone and it was streaky….). If I could tell something was wrong when I was a TOTAL NOOB and didn’t know anything at all, something is wrong with the product 😂🤣 Then later quite by accident I painted the Cotman turquoise over dark and was all, “what are these cloudy streaks??”

Have you tried pr122 from Mission gold? In Oto's video it seems to be even stronger than the qor's version. I have it and it quite bright and economical too since it's really cheap where I come from.

Hm…. I just got my first Mission Gold and the PR122 is very nice. I have not tried it side by side with Qor and haven’t made my Mission Gold swatch cards yet…. I know Denise Soden said the MG version is her very favorite and she wished it was cheaper open stock. (In the US sets are cheap and tubes are EXPENSIVE!). Parley do you have any tips on Mission Gold and flow? A lot of people say MG doesn’t flow much and I do notice that, although, it seems to have a lot to do with how wet the paper is. I got it to flow really nicely if I soaked the paper for a minute, then let it dry slightly before painting. But if I just wet it with a brush and paint right away it doesn’t flow much at all. I did see a video where someone showed paint will stop flowing when you get the paper too wet on the surface? I was amazed. I think it was maybe Emma Lefabre. Maybe I’ll try to find it again and watch more closely. But I wondered if you have any opinions on this issue or tips??
@parleymanderson7490

@@jennw6809 MG’s flow doesn’t bother me but I’ve heard someone said that putting ox gal in the water improve their flow. I haven’t looked into it that much but it seems like something worth experimenting with.

@@parleymanderson7490 Thanks Parley! Last night I was playing with them again, after finding one of those videos from Emma Jane Lefavre's channel, about water control for optimum flow. Anyway I found my flow was beautiful when my paper was the correct wetness. I just didn't have the correct balance of water & pigment in the paper and brush. Now that I think about it, last night I was using a larger real squirrel quill rather than a smaller synthetic one I used last time, and maybe that just works better for the combo of MG and the paper I was using. I will play a bit further. I'd once seen a comment about how much someone loved Mission Gold's Indanthrone and Cherry Red, and I couldn't get it out of my head, so I ordered them from Jackson's open stock, at like 5x the price of the tubes in my set. I just got them yesterday and they were totally worth it 😍The Indanthrone is sooooo pigmented!! And I have M. Graham's version too, so that is saying something. The Cherry Red is granulating, and also nicer than M. Graham's version. More granulating, more pigmented. Oh, and the Quin Rose really IS beautiful. I should do some swatch cards today so I can compare with my other brands 🙂
