I didn't used to like the Skoda Karoq. It replaced the Yeti which I loved, and it wasn't as charming. Now it's been facelifted, I've mellowed and d'ya know what? It's a brilliant mid-size SUV. Join me for a comparison to my Skoda Kodiaq, as well as the usual walkaround, driving review and waffle.

I’ve had 2 Karoq SEL’s and am getting my third this week. Value for money they are unbeatable. Reliable and easy to park. Comfortable and spacious. If you are not into flexing this is the ideal vehicle.

Only problem with Kodiaq sportline is that it’s over £40k and therefore gets hit with the £390.00 per year ‘Luxury car tax’. The Karoq sportline (in 1.5TSI guise) is well under the £40k mark so escapes it. Worth bearing in mind when looking around. Even if you go for a second-hand Kodiaq, check it wasn’t over £40k new when you buy otherwise you’re still get hit with £390 a year rip-off tax.

That's a very nice looking little car but Holy Lord 42k is a lot for a little ish SUV. i like the way you think though, second hand and bigger is way more sensible. Great job!

I am considering buying a Kodiaq or the Karaq. I like both, but for a daily driver around town, I like the Karoq because of the smaller turning circle and parkability. Are there any other advantages the Kodiaq has over the Koroq, besides the Looks??

Tim Rodie Drives Stuff : the Karoq doesn't have 521 litres of boot space....VW is giving a lying metric yet again....I've directly compared it to the Tucson (model 2015) when I was buying our family SUV and it had a bigger boot, a 514 litres of boot space at 4,5 meter of length. The Kodiaq has a bigger boot....no nearly 835 litres as VW claims....more like around 700-710 litres....but Karoq is definitely smaller inside and in the boot space as the Tucson 2015 is.

Hi Tim, In the se L trim would you pick the DSG or manual?

I've got a 1.5 SEL arriving in May 2024 - bit of a waiting list lol - and having watched a few of the reviews, the DSG seems to be the better choice so I decided to pay the extra and go with one. Have had manual cars for last 10+ years so will be a nice change when stuck in traffic to not have to do the clutch pedal/gear change dance, and let the car do the thinking for me. The review I watched reckoned the DSG was nicely ratioed across the 7 gears and much better than the manual 6 speed. Also, thank gawd, the Karoq has actual knobs and buttons instead of my current Seat Leon FR with the climate change all controlled by the touchscreen which is frankly dangerous as hell when driving. Had fun in the Leon though, but time for a more sensible but still not boring as hell car :)

Weird that the Android Auto Play is not wireless. My wife has a pre-facelift non-Sportline version from 2021 and it does have wireless Android.

Warning- I have a 2/5 year old Karoq sportline, Ive had 2 new front door locks, 2 front shock absorbers that were leaking, software issues on the infotainment system that took 4 months to fix, and now my car has been off the road for 6 weeks and counting with DSG gearbox issues….NEVER AGAIN !!!!

Why such an aggressive reply ? You clearly said it was 2/5 of a year old, two fifths, which is 0.4 .Calm down .

I’m about the same height as you and my head is squashed against the ceiling in the rear with the varioflex seat models and Pan roof. The normal rear seat are much better.

Whats the point of such big rims on a suv? Looks ugly and unpractical to me
