That is for sure. Now that they have joined Microsoft/Asobo we will hopefully get more great features in other aircraft and not just the CJ4 and other avionics mods they have done.

I joke about it a lot but being able to quickly interpolate those numbers given approximation and known values is a big deal. Great video! Lots of questions about metars and ATIS - even controllers have to use the handbooks to freshen up on those regularly!

I will start tackling that this weekend (but not until I do a race in a reasonably priced airplane). It will be a refresher for me. We never use the METAR after RMK but I have a feeling in a couple of days I will be reminded of what ALL items are after RMK.

Glad you liked it. A video covering ATIS/ASOS/AWOS (which include METARs) will probably be next which will tie nicely into the video planned after that one.

that TAS calc blew my mind!
@thecorporatepilotdad

The calculation used in the flight levels was told to me many years ago by a former student who went into the USAF and was taught that during his flight training in the military. He told it to me and my mind was blown, too.

Thank you thank you. Your tutorials are second to none. I’ve watched them all and learned SO much. On your last tip, my Altitude Selector will always change by 1000 (although sometimes when I enter FS2020 it will change by 100, but this lasts for only a few seconds). A single left-click gives me 1000 but a left-click and hold gives very fast 100s. Strange behaviour! Keyboard left shift does nothing for me. I have the latest updates for FS2020 and the Working Title mod. Maybe this will get sorted sometime.

I am glad you find these tutorials helpful. Hearing that makes the effort put into them worth it. Thank you. People have commented about OBS course changing by 10 instead of 1. Most of them had one thing in common - Honeycomb flight controls. Here is an old post about it from the MSFS Forum that might be helpful : forums.flightsimulator.com/t/alt-hdg-etc-incrementing-and-decrementing-in-wrong-intervals-with-honeycomb-alpha-plugged-in-just-started-after-latest-windows-build-installed/231881

Nice tips, why would you need your TAS in the middle of the flight?
@thecorporatepilotdad
@thecorporatepilotdad 3 жыл бұрын
A Citation I flew years ago had a TAS display on a separate display. The display was out. We had no easy way to get TAS other than using the method with FL and IAS. By knowing that we were able to fly a given IAS attain the TAS that we normally used.

So much maths!!!!!! Youre a legend. I need to remember the decent calculation. Thanks
@thecorporatepilotdad
@thecorporatepilotdad 3 жыл бұрын
Math is not my favorite subject at all but these are easy calculations - thankfully! A little bit of practice and 300'/NM is very easy to remember. Then remember half of GS and add a 0 to your answer for the descent rate. You can do this on an ILS to check yourself. It will work out almost exact on the height and rate of descent. That is why I had the visual approach in the FMS to show the GP coinciding with the altitude on the way down.

@@thecorporatepilotdad my biggest mess up is always deciding when to descend from cruise. I always mess that up. BTW is there a reason you kept picking Teteborough? Just wondering I grew up fairly close to it in NJ.

@@octanejimmy As much as I have flown there in the past 15 years one would think I would despise the place. TEB has grown on me and almost seems like a second home. On when to descend from cruise, try this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoPan3Z_hN2trqc

@@octanejimmy I didn't know Teterboro had a judge. The population is only about 60 people. I have probably been through Maywood. We don't usually go too far north of Hasbrouck Heights unless going to Paramus if we feel like going to a mall.

Either way, do something you enjoy. When I was young (younger) I wanted to be an airline pilot in the worst way. Today, as an adult, the corporate pilot route worked for me. I have several friends from college in the airlines and the airline life would not have been one I would have liked. They love it though.

Great stuff. My version of Working Title CJ4 doesn't have a working Datalink (greyed out) Is there an update Im missing?
@thecorporatepilotdad

Rate of descent - although I'll have to watch it several times before it sinks in 😂 Captain Joe in his videos does say that working out the rate is messed by every pilot so maybe I'm not alone.

ATIS at destination
@thecorporatepilotdad
@thecorporatepilotdad 3 жыл бұрын
@@harrybassett9433 This rate of descent is an estimate. You can use it on ILS approaches as a target rate of descent in airplanes that don't have autopilots. Divide ground speed by 2 and add a 0. If GS is 140 = 140/2=70 add a 0 - 700'/min. That's it. And the distance/height .. 300Xdistance to the airport + field elevation. 300X7=2100 and add field elevation. At 7 NM from the runway you'll want to be 2100 feet AGL (add field elevation for what the altimeter will read at that 7 mile point) and then descend at 700'/min from the previous example. I hope that helps.
