A plumber once told me to stuff steel wool where all the pipes come into the house and where pipes come into cabinets, especially under the kitchen sink. The mice cannot chew thru the steel wool. Make it really tight-a mouse can squeeze thru a hole no bigger than a pencil. Also, check the vents in the eaves (maybe it’s called facia-the flat part that goes from the exterior wall to the gutters.)We had mice crawl up three stories of a brick wall and got into our house thru the little vents. One had a tear in the screen backing.

Yay! I love organizing things so I clicked on this right away! I'm glad to see I already follow all your great tips. In FL, we're likely to get roaches if we don't stay on top of the kitchen. Everything must be placed in an airtight container. I also like to create shallow, labeled bins for different food groups to keep everything together. For instance we have a dedicated bin for soups, baking ingredients, rice, etc.

Thanks for watching and taking the time to reach out. Having a tidy pantry saves money from buying duplicates that expire because we can't find them. And it also encourages us to get rid of old unused dishes, pots, pans. In this pantry we tossed 15+ expired boxes of Jell-o and a bunch of supplies from a 40th birthday celebration (since they will not be used again in this family.)

Very helpful tips,, Angela. Thank you so much. I use airtight clear glass containers or metal containers, as hungry mice can chew thru plastic. Would suggest you keep pets out of any area where you set mousetraps, as a pet will swallow the entire trap for the bait and you will have an emergency vet visit. We grew up in the country setting our traps on kitchen counters and down in the cellar, where no pets were allowed.

@AskAngelaBrown3 жыл бұрын
I love containers too. The key is to have a rule about the size and number of containers. In my house we store only sandwich size containers (for leftovers that can be heated up for 2) and individual sizes that are 4oz. and 8oz. And then you have to limit those to only the ones you use plus a few more. The key is moderation.

Great to see this video! I've been a little concerned since it seems like you've changed your posting schedule. I hope nothing's wrong and you're just enjoying some vacation time or a more relaxed schedule! Anyway, I'm so glad I've never had a mouse or rat problem because I tend to view them more as "feral pets" than pests. So while I can certainly appreciate not wanting wild animals in the house causing damage and sanitation issues just like I wouldn't want a feral dog or cat in my home -- I wouldn't be too comfortable trying to exterminate them in the same way it would be weird to try to kill a wild dog or cat that got in. I don't know what the answer is -- I guess maybe a, likely more expensive, animal control company that would trap and remove them unharmed -- but I'm just glad I've never run into this problem! Bugs I'm happy to squash or exterminate with impunity.

You might change your response to “a mouse” in your house after going through it once. We had a bird feeder close to our house and ended up with a mouse in our house. As nature lovers, we live-trapped it and released it in a field. But once one mouse found it’s way in, even though there were no food sources for it, more followed. After live trapping/releasing about four, we resorted to traditional “snap” traps and in the end trapped (killed) 29 mice before we were done.

Yes, do you have any plastic cutting boards amzn.to/3lMKWat or even a plastic placemat will do. Put it under the empty wire shelving and secure it with your hand under the cutting board. With the other hand, spray the shelving with a degreaser like Krud Kutter amzn.to/3CzLiaA and then scrub with a non-scratch scrub brush amzn.to/2VEubnk When you've cleaned off the icky stuff wipe the shelving with a damp cloth and they will be like new. Now that I've been tidying up and reorganizing our pantry and kitchen for two days, I've just got to the point "I'll sit down in a corner and cry quietly". I didn't have the time and energy to take care of it properly for over a year ... a horror, this chaos. The next one who doesn't put something back exactly where it belongs will regret it 🤬 Luckily we don't have any problems with mice or cockroaches here (yuck), but a few years ago I brought in food moths 🙄 with a cat food. I have the moths under good control, they can't find anything to eat (except for my chilli salt last year) but now I'm fighting paper fish ... if someone has a good tip on how to get rid of the critters, I would be very grateful! @@isabelpimentel1415 Basically, I took the same measures as you. Plus, everything that the moths might like, I now keep in clamping lid jars with rubber seals. I never got rid of those stupid creatures completely, but I last noticed the last real infestation about 18 months ago; the moths had made themselves comfortable in a spice grinder with chili salt that I hadn't used in a while and that had slipped all the way to the back of the cupboard. I mean - in the CHILI salt??? I really wouldn't have expected that. I only occasionally see a single moth, not at all in winter. One could use parasitic wasp larvae, which is too expensive for me because of the way and frequency it has to be used; would remain insecticide, and something in me resists it. I think I've mostly resigned myself to sharing my home with these animals. They don't hurt me and don't scare me, in contrast to mosquitoes or spiders, for example 😅

We work very hard to do all of these types of things. Unfortunately, living in an apartment building totally negates pretty much all of these steps. We report pests as soon as we see them or evidence of them, of course, and if our unit gets treated or at least checked out there is no guarantee of neighboring units getting the same treatment. Cockroaches really freak me out as I KNOW for a fact that we didn't bring them in and I still catch those buggers on occasion. Ew! Thanks for the magic eraser tip around the water pipes. Some people do live in Pinterest like homes - though we've been hired to help many people "clean" the home for the photo shoots. What this means is that there is an area called "off camera" which is what you can't see. The pantry's look AMAZING. They are shiny and sparkly and magical to see. Right behind the camera that is filming the pantry is a craft table with labels, mismatched bowls, a few burnt pans, Cupcake tins that belonged to Grandma, some odds and kitchen items that probably haven't been used in years and a bunch of other weird stuff that never ends up in the video. Once you hear the words "cut" and the video is over, it all goes back in the pantry and the craft stuff gets shoved in a drawer. Pretty is one thing - functional is something completely different. If you can have both - WOOT WOOT!

I have 2 small dogs, so not going to put a mouse trap on the floor. Got another solution?
@AskAngelaBrown3 жыл бұрын
Yes, put it on top of a flat box or container on the first shelf where the dogs won't get to it. The mice will still get to it as they climb up all sorts of things and will look for food on all shelves. They will also look for food in cupboard drawers. So you can strategically put one there as well.

I use to put the traps on floor behind heavier things, like that my dog wouldn't be able to reach the traps.

Great advice thanks but MOUSETRAPS are inhumane- my parents used to use them and the poor little creatures very rarely died instantly, some just lost limbs and stuff, it’s absolutely hideous. Prevention yes but please don’t resort to leaving mousetraps, you’ll have to finish the mouse off and who knows how long it will suffer prior to that. There are so many ways now that you can get rid of mice, natural ways too, so please, please avoid cruel traps.🐭❤️🐭

Label your shelves! Also, diatomaceous earth is good to keep out ants and is non toxic to people and pets.

Angela I like most of your videos and your kindness but i find very cruel to put those traps for sentient beings to get killed, i understand is annoying but there are traps were you don't need to kill them and you can free them far away from your home , they are just trying to survive like we do :(
