As a diehard hendrix nerd I feel the need to say this is such quintessential buckethead playing here. His whole persona is a commentary on the theater of the rock concert, as well as certain aspects of his playing. he went through everything in his show in this song! And the machine gun cover, which doesn't enter until several minutes into this video, is filled with feeling and also classic rock star showmanship. Really, really cool

i think that's how you should cover a hendrix song don't try to play it note for note but play it in an improvising and experimental way as hendrix did himself i prefer Jimi's version, though. it's not about them trying to beat Hendrix. it's more about 4 experimental guys going insane on a track of one of the greatest and most experimental guitar players of all time.

Does anyone know if he makes guitar faces under the mask?

He does, actually. He darts his half-closed eyes from the guitar to the audience, mouth drawn open in mock amazement, as if to say: 'Wow, look how awesome I am! Look what I can do! You probably wish you were me, right?' It's pretty hilarious.

Listen to Hendrix....greatest live recording of the Electric Guitar in history. Anyone that argues that is just a foolish fan of some other good musician. Hendrix's came thru this world like a Mozart or Beethoven...Charley Parker...Picasso...Rembrandt...Jaco Pastorius....complete genius originals. Buckethead is good but not even close.

Don't mean to sound sacrilegious, I love Jimi more than I love Buckethead, and I do love Buckethead quite a lot, but Jimi threw a lot of random shit (if you really want to call it like that) too, and I can tell you, it's no random shit, it's just losing control on the instrument and going nuts because your mind is free. Buckethead does it differently, it sounds like atonal shredding, Jimi did crazy whammy-legato stuff, but conceptually it's the same thing. They're allowed to do it
