I wondered if you’d get to this song. It tears me apart every time. Chris wanted to do this to bring attention to the issues of Mental Health. It is so heavy, but when you love someone that much that you are willing to take it all on just to help that person through…. What is love if it isn’t that! But you know you are one of the only reactions I have seen that acknowledge the toll it takes on the one seeing them through that pain, I appreciate that. As always you two are wonderful, thoughtful and let your emotions freely show and that’s why I am here always watching you guys!

The writing in this song is amazing. U can just listen to the lyric video and still get it. "Pretend I'm a shelter for heartaches that don't have a home". What a line. Beautiful. Breaks my heart every time.

Depression and Anxiety are seriously no joke. Sometimes people think they understand and have good intentions when trying to help but I think it's impossible to understand if you haven't gone through it and that's okay because I would prefer nobody experience it themselves. With that being said it takes a toll on those who surround them and much respect for the ones who stay through it all. I can't say someone who doesn't stick through are horrible people but you really have to be strong enough for two people. This is probably the most powerful song I've heard to date and I can't imagine how hard it was for him to record this and perform repeatedly.

@@ginakaus7446 just remember to take one day at a time. When your anxiety starts up remember to breathe and know it's normal. The more you fight the anxiety the worse it gets. There are many different triggers and most are unavoidable. Remind yourself that it's the anxiety messing with you and can play mind tricks on you. I know a lot of people say medication for it is bad but it can help. It takes at the very least 2 weeks to notice any change but does get better and just knowing there is light at the end of the tunnel helps. I wish you the best. Also, I know how hard it is to do anything productive while struggling with this but exercise will help, I promise. It releases feel good endorphins and your body is starving for that during depression and anxiety attacks. Good luck and feel free to update me if you'd like. I'm rooting for you as I have struggled off and on with it for 30 years. I lost my dad and sister within the last 3 years and feel like I lost tons of progress I've made but think daily on how I can pick myself back up so I truly do feel your pain and would not wish this on anyone.

Shawn & Mel, Chris wrote this song to bring mental health issues out to bring these issues out to help educate people. I think she was bipolar and had depression issues. This is difficult to live with. It’s extremely frustrating and frightening. I have a very dear friend who was bipolar and she suffered horribly. I love Chris Stapleton’s gift for writing songs. You can tell he and his wife are down to earth people. Thank you Chris!!! LadyGator1983 🐊🐊🐊

Thank you so much for this. Most people have no idea what a struggle it is to deal with depression and keep functioning. When you have the right partner, who is willing to deal with the almost constant struggles with yourself and your moods, it is so much easier. May our Lord bless you both and thank you again.

This song makes me cry, it makes me think of my mom. She had depression problems and was always trying to kill herself for many years. She unfortunately self medicated with alcohol, of which she was not a nice person when she drank. We muddled through it for many, many years. Towards the end of her life she was able to quit alcohol and a certain medication helped her alot. She was a very nice person in the end. Being young everything was put on me. There were days she wouldn't get out of bed and I had to take care of my siblings and the household. Depression is NO JOKE! Get help for yourself because it effects those around you more than you think.

This is one of the most powerful songs and videos I have ever seen, seems how I'm somewhat living it myself. The first time I seen this, it literally broke me. My wife hasn't been well for about 13 years now and has been fighting with depression because of it. To see her on the days and weeks where I can see it in her face, that she just wants it to stop, kills me. She is getting better some, but there when it first started, I had to take off work for 6 1/2 years to take care of her. Twice she told me to leave so I could have a life, other than what it had become. Yeah, that's something that will never happen!! But to know that there are days that she feels like that, terrifies me. She is my hero!! She saved me a long time ago. She pulled me back out of a bottle, picked me up off the ground and got me right again. When I asked her why she even bothered, she just said that she seen a good man that needed some help and love. So this song and video hits close to home for me.

The person, the loved ones, the friends and THE FIRST RESPONDERS who are people just like you and I.. living the same life, going through the same trials and hardships.. like Mel said, showing up to a job that caters to other's needs while having to push their own sorrows and life problems to the side to help the public. The struggles are real and the effects of mental health on the community as a whole - are real. Thank you for this great reaction.

I began having bouts of depression in 1989. My husband never knew what he would come home to. Eventually, I was diagnosed with Bi-Polar ll and Major Depression but it took decades to get the correct diagnosis and help that I needed. But through it all, my husband was by my side. When Chris sings “It Takes A Woman” I tell my husband that it’s actually about him.😊. Because he exudes all of the goodness that Chris Stapleton mentions in that song. He is my comfort. He is my light and he is, because of my introversion and from suffering from so many years of depression, my only real friend. He is everything. Oh, I know what some will say…that I need to make new friends and that I shouldn’t rely on my guy like I do and I AM getting there. It’s just taking time. God bless all of you. This song and video got the waterworks turned on early this morning. I hope you all have a wonderful day.❤

This hits so hard. First time I saw the video, I was in tears. One of the greatest tragedies in this world is loving someone so much but knowing that your love isn't enough to save them. For those that are struggling with mental illness or struggling emotionally, please get help. There is no shame in asking for help. Your life has so much value and so many people love you and need you, sometimes more people than you realize.

It appears from the video that the woman may have suffered from Bi-polar which is commonly also associated with manic episodes of extreme highs and lows. Anyone in this SITUATION feel there is absolutely no tomorrow left to feel anything Anymore. Been there several times in my elder life now. When that darkness takes over no one and nothing can ever make it better. I was lucky, ONCE when I heard my sons voice or a male voice right as I was about to end my life, say loudly “NOOO!” I will never ever forget it. I had experienced depression in my late 30’s and Doctors wanted to give me pills. I threw the prescription away. It never really went away and it has been dormant waiting for my vulnerability to kick in. I have won many times over and pray I Continue to win. It is such a darkness and no amount of fake happiness can break it. We are like clowns with makeup trying to tell everyone we are ok. We Are not & never will feel complete but please know there is so many hotlines you can call. I am here NOW because of my son who needs me & is disabled now. I think that was why I HEARD THAT VOICE AND was stopped. HE IS MY ROCK NOW! He is my sole purpose to live now and maybe that is all I needed, who knows.

There but for the grace of God...My wonderful wife suffered severe depression with suicidal ideation. She tried to take her own life twice. We struggled and fought for ten years to get her the help she needed. It was hell. We finally found a doctor who could truly help. Thirty years later she is strong, healthy, and happy. We have three amazing children and five grandchildren. For those suffering, don't give up. Fight for your life. Help is available. Seek it out. You are worth it. For those in a relationship with someone suffering, don't give up on them, don't let them give up on themselves. Your love and commitment to them can make all the difference. It will most likely be the hardest thing you'll ever do. But, when you both come out the other side it is glorious, like stepping into the warm sunshine after a season of cold, gloom, and rain.

I have been in law enforcement for many of years. Back when I started you did not express nor say anything about how you were feeling after the hard calls. It was frowned upon. I promised myself I would not let the job change me but it does without you even knowing. The nightmare, anxiety, isolation, etc…. These past few years have made it even more difficult. I am retiring soon with 32 years. But I know I will live with this forever. I have attending many funerals for Officers the past several years and each one takes a piece of you. I humbly ask that you react to HANNAH ELLIS “Officer Down”. She wrote the song for her cousin whose husband was killed in the line of duty. Daniel Ellis Badge 457. It shows what the spouse left behind deals with. Thank you and thank you Mel for your service. I did not know until your last video.

Shawn I know where you at with it....I had the same thoughts in my head. I'd literally lose my mind if it happened too bro. Any woman in my family....We ain't strong enough to handle that pain.

Chris rarely does produced videos. This one is special because he donated proceeds to the mental health cause. Here’s the link to a short video about how they made this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6rIhZyAgdlsiJo

I lived this scenario 25 years before this song was released. The first time I saw the video I couldn’t make it through it. As a first responder, my heart breaks every single time I have to go on a suicide call.

I'm Bipolar and this is real, thankfully I never thought about suicide. It is really scary illness even with Dr's and meds.

Cops see this stuff everyday and it effects them to the core, i cant imagine getting a call and its a close family member, much respect to those suffering with depression and those who are trying to deal with the aftermath

She suffered from Bipolar disorder. You can see her episodes of mania. Where she is super happy, super energized and almost hyperactive. And then the other side which is depression so deep, that she feels suicide is the only answer. Both are horrible sides. Even the mania. Because during manic episodes, even though they are super energized, they do very dangerous things. Some think they can fly and jump off roofs etc. Some are very sexually promiscuous. And meet strangers. Bipolar disorder is a heartbreaking mental illness. I know because my grandkids mother had it. Very sad. 😢

People with mental health issues such as bipolar syndrome have highs and lies. One minute their really happy and the next they are extremely depressed. Unfortunately this happens all the time. This video was done to try to shed light on this horrible problem.

That was so real, brings back emotional trauma I went thru seeing my sister try and kill herself, at least 3 times now. Over a man, go figure, but she's newly married and happy.. for now I hope. But we follow Jesus now who has lifted us up .

The woman is high-cycling bipolar. It's brutal and so hard to regulate. My nephew has the same illness. He has so far survived, the woman in the video lost her battle...
