Praying Mantis - 6 Weeks Old

We've finally reached 6 weeks of age with our Praying Mantises that we hatched! Some facts about Praying Mantises. They have bulging eyes and heads that can swivel 180 degrees. The praying mantis cleans its forelegs after eating. The praying mantis eats nothing but live food, mostly insects. Cannibalism is common among praying mantises. I personally watched this Mantis catch a live ant and eat it. They're definitely doing there job in my strawberry patch. Just amazing!

We had a neighbor who released Ladybugs every year, and he also put the Praying Mantises egg sacks out in his garden. Our neighbor moved away, but we still have both of these beneficial insects around here, over 25 years later. That is absolutely wonderful!

Nice video. We've had praying mantis show up and my grandchildren loved them! I need some ant attackers!! What time of the year can I find them in stores? My husband asked me what I am going to do when a fully grown mantis climbs on me? That's the only thing that I am leary of! I think they get to be 5-6 inches long??? Thats a little scarry, but maybe I can put my big girl pants on and deal with it! I saw the video when they hatched out also. Lots of them! They are pretty kool to watch as far as insects go. Thanks for your video! Your girls are braver than my granddaughter! The first time one climbed on her arm and started heading for her neck she was begging her brother to get it. Of course, big brother thought it was funny. It didn't take long for her to get use to the mantis because they are sort of cute! 💜

The Mantis around here are very plentiful, ours change colour according to the background they are on, but they are very beneficial, although I wonder how many people zap them just because they look like they will bite/sting, stay safe ! Chris B.
