My two girls enjoy watching you. 6 and 8 years old. My 6 year old won her Duet 1st and getting ready for her solo. She said" mammy she is so cool" sending love and light. Thank you for sharing your talent.

perfect timing!! its been one week since i started pointe in class and we dont have tons of exercises to practice at home so im so happy to have some variety for my routine/practice, ill definitely be practicing with these tips tomorrow. our teacher said we're gonna hate her come wednesday so i need the strength. thanks claudia!!!

Thank you so much for this video Claudia! I'm in a class with girls that are all on pointe but they are 2 years older than me. My studio's rules are that you must be 14 but I'm really worried that by then it'll be too late and I'll be so behind so I won't be able to audition for a company ☹️ I'm going to work extra hard though with these exercises so that I might be able to achieve my goal faster 💖❤️

I would, even the most incredible ABT dancers start with pliés and rises. How is it like, I was just told I’m getting mine yesterday! The dancers with them tell me it hurts and I know it will and is hard work but I’ve been wanting pointe shoes since I knew what they were.

Emma Shane it really doesn’t hurt much when you have toe pads on just don’t put your pointe shoes on without the toe pads because they are meant to keep your feet in a correct position and making sure they don’t do anything funky inside your shoe

So I’m 13 and I started doing ballet when I was 3 so it’s now been 10 years and this week my studio sent out the pre pointe invitations and I got one and this has been my dream since I started and I’m just trying to just practice more to get ready for the class

christina giata OMG same haha still, you can give it a try, I can't jump with my point shoes but I can do turns, stand still, and walk without any problema but some little pain in my legs at the end of the day.

Thank you so much for your tutorials and tips!! As a teacher, I am always looking for ways to help my students grow stronger, safely! Thanks for all that you are doing in the dance world, and I look forward to more of your videos :) (Ps. Do you have any tips for preventing/treating “snapping hip syndrome”? Many of my students complain of this when lowering their leg in forward or side extensions. My go-to response has been to have them lift the leg using the turn-out strength they currently have and not to hold their leg too far to the side... do you have any other suggestions?)

I have incredibly clicky hips, I've found what works is actually strengthening the muscles of the supporting leg. Holding the opposite side more frees up the other leg, it works almost instantly which is nice.

What exercise alterations do you recommend for extreme leg and foot hypermobility? I’m preparing to go back en pointe after 4 years in a wheelchair plus 1.5 years of physical therapy. I danced for over 25 years, did semipro ballet, and taught advanced pointe classes and ballet summer intensives. I have EDS, and my legs, ankles, and forefoot over the toes are incredibly hypermobile.

I just started ballet last year and you have to be in ballet 3 for 1 year to go into pre pointe And I’m 15 turning 16 this year and I’m rlly hoping these exercises can help get me to pointe faster because is my dream

For the soleus exercise, are we allowing our hip to flex (thereby creating a space-hold with everything above the pelvis [think less ROM forced-arch), or are we raising the entire unit of the body up-and down? I danced for about three years from like 3-6 years old. I took a longggggg break and just started dancing again two years ago I am now 12 and I have pretty good technique. Would you think I’m ready for pointe. I really want to be able to do it 😀😀

I've got a question about calve rises with a bent knee: do I need to stay on the same height level and just bend the knee of the supporting leg more or do I need to actually rise keeping the angle of the knee same throughout the rise?

My legs are very bow shaped so my knee is above my pinkie at best when in parallel. Never over the third toe. My teacher put me on pointe nonetheless, but it makes balancing on one leg so much harder.

For most studios, when taking a pre pointe class, do you get your shoes at the beginning of the year? Or after you finish a year?

At my studio (I’m at a small one) we only get our shoes when we start the pointe class itself. We don’t have a prepointe class. I’m in the Senior ballet class (by level not by age.) That class has some students prepping for pointe and some not who are still doing the exercises

I can do a 30 second balance and 25 calf raises can buy demi pointes or pointe shoes and practice at home

no obviously not. also that stuff is complete bullshit, you need turnout for pointe this other junk is pointless, nobody closes their eyes during pointe work.

I don't have ballet class, but I want it to learn it by myself because im too busy with school so I cant go to a ballet class. When do I know I can dance on pointe shoes?

깜박 ɔɹʎ ʇo lǝɟʇ ʇǝɐɹs no 아리안에이터 it will take anywhere from three months to never, so there’s no set point where everything snaps into place. Doing daily releves and correct form tendus should take you a long way. I would say one marker could be once your feet are stretched enough that the plate of the foot points to the ground when you are sat down and pointing your feet. But both flexibility and strength need to be worked on every day, multiple times a day if possible, before pointe should be attempted. Buy a theraband and use that for strengthening feet and calves, practice balancing sur le cou de pied and passé both flat foot to improve balance and releve to improve both strength and balance etc. The other thing which some people say helps but never really helped me would be Demi pointes. You could look into getting a pair of those. The last thing would be to attend a free trial (most studios offer them at different levels) and go along and try and get hold of the teacher at the end and see if they can ascertain how your leg and feet strength and stability is coming along. Lastly, don’t push too far too fast. The foot is astonishing delicate and easy to injure. I wouldn’t want to take the risk myself of learning with no teacher, if I’m honest, but it’s your body. Claudia, I have been doing ballet for 1 year now (i started at 12) I am now 13 and a half and I think I am ready for pointe. I have lots of muscle in my legs and can do all of these exercises as well as Maya Due to me moving to a new studio the teacher hasn't mentioned it yet but i just thought i'd ask for any advice you may have Thanks Bethany

just fyi, #2 is how I damaged my ankles perminantly. Please only do this if a doctor or teacher says it's safe.

I am so sorry to hear that happened to you! You comment here is a very important message that I hope more people see. It is dangerous to hold on to something behind your back as oppose to something in front of you especially when people are not as strong/flexible as this girl in the video, who HAS been en point *for years*. It's simply because holding to something at the back is more difficult so a wobble in ankle/toes may need to your the whole body dropping and injure the feet badly.

#3 also seems a bit iffy as well. In my dance class in middle school, there was a girl who could go on the tips of her toes without the use of pointe shoes OR a barre. Our teacher told her not to do it because it could severely mess up her feet.

How do you hurt ur ankles like that, you must’ve had extremely bad feet and you forced your legs to touch the wall, idk how else you could hurt yourself

Please, please, please, advise, how I can strength my left ankle in particular, it's a predominantly weak ankle, frequently spra ined, as a consequence, I have tried the sarah - band your exercises (I think it was '4' and '7') nothing seems to work, if it is very unstable, wobbly nothing seems to work, so understandablely it is extremely frustrating, also I don't 😢 have a tennis ball, could I use a golf ball instead

I am hoping to start pointe after lockdown, I think i should have started earlier, but others who I dance with aren't great and dont try so I have to stay with them... woch is sad
