"This is a really hard exercise." Yes it is. I can do the hip flexor exercise...until I try to straighten my knee. Then the shaking begins and then the cramping of my upper quads. I strongly believe that if you didn't grow up working on this exercise, it is very difficult to get your legs above 90 degrees. SO hard. But thanks for sharing this. I will be working on it!

The 'dot' that is being activated with the 'adductor' muscles is the vastus medialis which is part of the quadriceps.... not the hamstring. I can't see how the hamstring is responsible in extensions? Sure the hamstrings are an antagonist in extension but that means they are not responsible for the 'effort', only the lengthening... hip flexion with adduction will activate vastus medialis, rectus femoris, iliacus, psoas major, sartotius and gracillus.

im 46! exercises one and two. ive been doing barre 3 times a week since march and cant get my develope above hip height without losing proper alignement.
@MJLionnavy7 жыл бұрын
If you just started on march for the first time, it looks like you are still a beginner, and I think it's perfectly normal you can't get your extensions higher than 90 degrees. I'd even say it's normal you can't get them much higher than 45 degrees, depending on how flexible you are and what kind of physical activity you did before. Progress on that aspect is much slower than we'd like and I think it's best to focus on proper alignment and execution rather than height.
@pheart23817 жыл бұрын
MJLionnavy thanks for this advice,i am still in the beginner bracket.

P Heart Sure! I'm a contemporary dance student that started late, and I remember getting really frustrated at things like that, but at the same time I was arrogant and I neglected other essential aspects of my ballet training, and because of that I'm stuck between begginner and intermediate, I need to catch up on a few things. If I could go back I'd tell myself not to stress about height of extensions, just work the right muscles, learn the combinations and then height will come.

Hi! I just turned 23. My relationship with dance has been an off and on one. When I was 4 or 5 I took my first balletclass for about little over a year. Than I did jazz when I was 9 years old and I did that for 2 years one day a week. After that I went on to musicaltheatre and I lost touch of my love for dance. Until I got in to a performing arts schoolprogramm where we had danceclass every week for 2 hours. At that time my technique was basically at ground zero again and I had to start from scratch. After graduation my technique was where I left off when I went on to musicaltheatre. Since than I had done some danceprojects and cources but never really diehard. But I am missing that diehard training so much that I recently installed a barre in my home and I am determent to step my game up. Next summer I will go on a one week trainingcamp and at this point my legs get up about 85 degrees. By the time of camp I want to get that up way higher. So what would you suggest I do? :) Ooph, that was a long story, lol xd Thanks, bye!

I am 27, and a year ago I had cartilage repair surgeries on both hips. I have gone through a ton of physical therapy and truly have a better understanding of how to move. My leg extensions are just over 100 degrees both Devon and second, and I am looking to increase my strength in the correct way. My hip flexors were "released" in surgery meaning they made a small zig zag cut down them, to lengthen them and prevent that "snapping" feeling many dancers can get. Everything is basically better than before, and I want to continue improving.

Hi I am 16 and struggling with jumps for ballet. I also find that I grip my thighs in turnout and am having difficulty toning the bum for ballet properly! Also if you have any tips for aligning feet and ankles as my feet are really arched which means i struggle on pointe in terms of strength! Thank you!

Hi Dee, how fantastic and good on you! I would recommend you do exercises 1 & 4 and do 12 of each on both legs to start with. After they become easier over a few months then increase to 15. Thanks for supporting my channel! X CD

Hi Ms. Dean. I appreciate your wonderful videos. I'm a 10 year old dancer. How many Basic Hip Flexor repetitions should I do? How many Extended HIp Flexor repetitions? How many Devon Lifts? How many 2nd position leg lifts? Is there an easy calculation to figure the number out so we don't have to ask for each exercise? Thank you again for all your wonderful instruction!

This was a great tip video. When I used to dance years ago I was never able to get high extensions but I was also never taught any proper technique/given any exercises on how to achieve this. I always used my quad muscles for devant and never understood what I was doing wrong! 😩 I’m wanting to pick up ballet again for fun and exercise but want to have proper technique and tips available. Thanks for sharing!

So again thank you so much for helping young dancers like me to help succeed with our strength.

ok so devon is an alternate spelling of devant? i have never seen it spelled this way...just curious if it's an Aussie thing?
@laurabrookfield73347 жыл бұрын
devon is a place and devant is the preposition
@BlueRita7 жыл бұрын
no, its not. "Devant" is the french word for "in front of". "Devon" doesn't exist in french.

Jane Hervilla try doing the splits but bend your front knee putting your foot underneath your thigh do this for about one minute on each leg and it should help stretch out your hip flexors. This should also make your splits easier
