The way he's portrayed here is how I'd have to imagine he is in reality. He's made imperfection and he can't decide if he loves it or hates it so he just messes with it for fun.

He didn’t “make imperfection.” Imperfection made itself through the overt rejection of his perfect way. This is a theme running through the Old Testament, much of which unfortunately doesn’t really translate. A good example of this is during the initial creation story, where it’s written (and this is the original Hebrew mind), that the lord commanded the earth to bring forth “fruit trees bearing fruit” and so the earth brought forth “trees bearing fruit.” In English, it’s hard to notice the meaning there, but the original writing implies with “fruit trees bearing fruit” that the trees THEMSELVES would also be a type of edible fruit, and instead (through no fault of the almighty), the earth actively rebelled against his command in a small way by bringing forth regular inedible trees that grew fruit. Again, it’s something that doesn’t quite translate into English, especially when you lack the contents of the rest of the scriptures. It’s pretty interesting stuff. Worth looking into. Also, the fact that so many people claim that this is an accurate representation of God in the Old Testament is pretty disappointing. If anything, it’s more a caricature of Zeus (with a dash of Odin thrown in). Another theme in the Old Testament was that God Actively DESIRED to be questioned. If you question God, that gives him the opportunity to explain why HE’S correct, and why his way is the ONLY way that leads to life. I mean, for crying out loud, he changed Jacob’s name to ISRAEL, which translates to “he who struggles with God.” He was always infinitely patient. The show is kind of cool, but it’s knowledge of what it’s criticizing seems to be based on Family Guy interpretations of the gospels.

Actually it was explained in the comic, God is not a loving being but a being that feeds on love and worship. He purposely made his creation so broken to make that worship extra tasty. He gave humanity free will and started a war in heaven just to see which one sticks by him. He even compelled the angel and demon to create Genesis because he wants to be loved by a power that greater than him. So basically he's a psychopathic man-child that created the universe because he can't bear being alone.
