Don't encourage the pro-flying whiners, Preach. We've already had several threads on the WoW forums consisting of people bellyaching about the fact that flying won't be available in Legion until a later patch in its lifecycle. Which is sad because Legion hasn't even left Alpha yet. People shouldn't just be able to unlock flying by hitting max level or through a gold sink. The Pathfinder method is the best compromise that Blizzard could come up with. Aside from that though, it looks like there has been some considerable effort on Blizzard's part in giving you a more diverse endgame. At least in comparison to the barren mess that was WoD. August can't come soon enough.

However, I cant pretend that I didnt wish I could fly doing the content nor is it right if I ommit that from the report; would be a lie. +Flaise Moroz If you were not a fucking moron you would grasp the reality that flying changes the very core gameplay experience of exploring an area and how you have to interact with it, overcome obstacles put in your way and, you know, navigate in it. If an area is designed by designers who know that it is gonna be traversed by flying mounts those areas will not have the same meat to them as if designers knew that people had to walk/ride through them. Just like you cant simply turn of quest markers in a game that is designed around them, simply not flying in an mmo that is designed around flying wont do shit for you.

+Preach Gaming There is a Quest That will give you Aviana's Fether in legion btw. i think it's in the south-west of highmountain. where the water fall is. and it's not just a quest ...you have to do the quest is particular way to get it.

Short quests but long travel times?! Sounds to me like subtle rewards for actualy exploring the world! I like that shit. That sounds cool to me. I'll bet my hat that the gateway for getting flying will invlove doing a FUCK TON of world quests. They want you to feel the size and geography of the world that they designed. Long travel times means the WORLD actually means something. I think thats awesome. But at the end of the day its all up to opinion I suppose.

It could have been a trick of the eye though since they increased the view distance (I didn't watch the video before commenting this so if he addressed that then I don't know yet).

Legion's success relies solely on some kind of content patch in the middle. A lot of people criticized MoP but at least it had content. If we have another 2 tier expansion with the last one last 14 months, this game is as good as dead

I want to see these worlds quests go outside of the new islands and into azeroth , pandaria , northrend. Make them true " WORLD" quests. I want to see the old zones relevant again. This is supposed to be biggest Legion invasion ever , want to see it affect the rest of the world. I don't want to just read about it in a book.

I agree, but this would be extremely weird, due to how the world is built. If you go back to Northrend at Legion, you actually go back to a years old continent where everything that is happening is taking place before the ICC raid. It would not work unless they do an overhaul of Northrend, which they'll probably never do.

+adam parker this harkens back to age old complaint hammered at blizz and rightfully so that they do not innerweave new content with the old but they just slice it all off to the point the previous expansions could not even exist after you reach the latest one. how about use some dark iron in the new recpies? how about sprinkle more random encounters all across the world and with each expansion add 200 more to the pool. ANd btw dont hammer them down our throats so that you see half of them the first day, spawn one small one every hour per ZONE and let it rest there untill someone finds it, and 3 bigger per day per continent...

Minds of people are interesting. Lots of players on forums complain how Vanilla was better and how you had to walk to do stuff instead of portals and flying. Yet when Blizzard creates content which requires you to walk to do stuff instead of portals and flying, people start to rage.

+Filip Batora Because you only hear the vocal minority. Every post by Blizzard is bombarded by hate from someone, doesn't matter what the post is about. Flying in Legion? The vanilla guys will cry tears of blood. No flying in Legion and the entitled millennials will cry. That's just how it works. Personally I prefer the world being very large and without portals, mounts in early levels, flightpaths everywhere, but that's not what everyone wants and I'm not gonna whinge about it. The game split it's fundamental spirit about half-way through Wrath, IMO they should've just made another game that is easier for people with no time. And I don't mean that in a bad way, I can perfectly see how vanilla or TBC would be a drag if you didn't have a lot of time. I have a lot of time though and I really liked the enormous world that vanilla and TBC offered. I doubt Legion will go back to those days, but Nostalrius and Mark Kern are talking to Blizzard about legacy servers so maybe I can play there eventually.

What I hated about Warlords profession gear was there was a stupid limit of only 3 pieces you would wear. To me, this made it utterly pointless. I could get 3 pieces from a dungeon run, why waste my time leveling a profession and not be able to use much of it or build a set etc. And of course, gathering was almost pointless, why, everyone can gather everything in their garrison. So it's nice to see some changes in that regard. I do hope professions have more work done with them. And perhaps make it worth your while to be able to gather and sell.

Really enjoy how this stuff is looking. Regarding world quests, however, I'm just worried they won't matter after a month. If all they reward is gear and rep, then as you said, a lot of people won't do them once they've got that. I don't know how to fix this; perhaps make the gear rewards quick for simple gear, but providing longer term rewards as well?

+goodsire Nah, after patch 7.1 they will introduce free blue pvp gear and other catchup gear that will make all this totally pointless.

+goodsire Won't we be able to trade duplicate pieces of BOP gear as well as break it down into Obliterum? I feel like that might be a good enough incentive to do those gear-rewarding world quests. Plus, there's always the chance a gear reward can upgrade to have crazy good stats. As for the rep quests, that's another story. I'm not sure what they could do there. Perhaps phase out the rep rewards with something like Order Resources, gold, or Ancient Mana, the newly added Suramar currency. Or perhaps completing X amount of rep world quests, you get a temporary buff that increases the rewards you earn from other missions.

+Alexander Nelson Ilvl scaling (or scaling around ilvl) isn't planned for Legion. You should grow in relative power as you obtain gear and not feel like you're on a treadmill going nowhere. The good news though is that because they're changing the way secondary stats work, the power creep will be far less than in WoD, as you start off with a decent amount of secondary stats in base 110 gear but don't gain as much as ilvls go up.

One of the main reasons why WoW got as big as it did was the massive LORE it has had for decades before vanilla even launched. Even the most casual player liked or had heard of Arthas and Illidan and paladins and mages ect ect, and that draw people into the World of Warcraft. That's something that has been SEVERELY lacking ever since... Cataclysm perhaps. Once WotLK was done, it felt like Blizzard gave up on lore and activating people into the world and instead went with heavy reward hooks. I'm really loving how even simple mining will have huge lore tied to it and will activate people to participate in the world instead of sitting in a garrison, waiting for weekly rewards.

+WeirdViking I felt Mop had a lot of lore. I am still sad they seem not to have had the very unique and lore ridden reputations of Mop. Lorewalkers, cloudriders, Operation Shieldwall, August Celestials, Klaxxi etc. they were unique and rewarded plenty of extra story. I think most people didn't like pandas and it was not explicitly tied into everything before. Same way we got the lazy panda stupidity even though that is complete bs

+Kassen777 I agree that there was some good lore in MoP, but imo huge problem was Blizzard failed in activating people to go and find it. The only real way they got some of the lore through was again through massive rewards like legendary chain, but the smaller things like what happened to anduin and all the lorewalker stuff... I honestly missed it all on my first time and only after seeing tons of interesting lore videos in youtube, i went back to mop and started to search them.

He discussed how world quests are spread out and how people will complain about the lack of flying. There's an item you get from Khadgar that teleports you to the nearest flight path. It has a 5 minute cooldown. I imagine that'll help a lot.

I definitely agree with the flying system. As a raider, it's going to be absolutely essential to get those world quests done quickly to move onto harder content and obtain those items. I think the Pathfinder system is a very nice compromise, but I do want to just get flying right away. Flying is not even that important, it just gets you around quicker!

Preach, I'd like you to comment on something: Reforging. This was removed in WoD, an the artifact weapons do not need the system. However, if they maintain the WoD system of RNG gear drops, this could be a remedy to many of our current gearing headaches. It would also faciliatate players switching between "main" specs, which seems to be a thing in Legion, by simply switching the secondary stats on thier gear. Reforging an item wouldn't have to be gold based. It could cost a rune/sigil/macguffin, attained from world quests and such. Anyway, it was a thought.

What I want to know is will mythic dungeons+ be easier or more efficient than mythic raid difficulty. Mythic dungeon +10 drops better gear than mythic raid difficulty but how hard is it when compared to mythic raiding? Not to mention you can go up to +15 (910) ilvl. Also as the expansion progresses will the gear get any better or will it be the same ilvl the entire expansion?

To solve the flying issue; just put a gnome/goblin in those zones whom have been kicked out of the tinkerer guild/cartell for experimenting with new flying technology. They then offer you a few gold to test our their latest flying device. You get a rocket with some fuel and they only work in specific zones.

I'm very happy to see this! I haven't been excited about Legion since it was announced at Blizzcon, and I have been regretting my prepurchase until now. My Prot Pally may become a little more boring and got actually got kind of gutted, though I think you were a little dramatic yesterday Preach (example: not mentioning that Judgement crits are supposed to give you a free SotR, [now changed to Judgement reducing the CD on SotR] and now avengers shield does not buff your next SotR, making guardian more viable). But still, seeing blizzard make an effort to make professions fun again, and the removal of several "carrots" (suramar and not gearing super hard in world quests) makes Legion look a lot better.

Hey Preacher. Recently discovered your vids, like a lot of them. I had a question regarding crafting professions, not gathering. I heard other videos say that you don't need to be 700 to start on legion recipes to be able to craft? Or what is going on there, exactly? Because I preordered the collector's edition, I don't have a demon hunter yet. So when I roll one on the 30th, they'll have level 1 crafting. What happens at that point? Some catch up mechanic?

How re-playable do you think world quests would be once you're in any form of raid gear? If the only gear rewards are dungeon level blues, surely once you are heroic raid geared you're going to be massively less inclined to go. Other than rep, what are the rewards like? Will this thing decent into a form of rep grind?

Well, I think it’s kinda cool that they have some lore related to the mining. Would make some sense that there would be something related to it. Overall after watching the video, I'm getting more keen on trying out the expansion for my self. Seems like they have done a lot of good work. Kind of interested in seeing how the profession changes affects gold making in legion, and how the supposedly increased gold cap will affect the in-game economy as well. I would also hope that they have more content patches throughout the expansion.

One question Preacher, how long do you think will this end game content last until you max out everything there is to do. Because what you said about NOT gating progression via daily/weekly lockouts Blizzard opened the door to long grinding sessions where you consume everything so fast that you complete the game in a matter of weeks.

Holding out on flying is the right thing to do. The fact that a quest is quick to do doesn't mean you should be able to do 8 of them in 10 minutes. This all comes back to a sense of instant gratification many players have. Blizzard has created that expectation and it looks like they are trying to correct it. Yes, a world quest might be hard to get to, you may need to learn the landscape and god forbid actually have to experience the journey instead of rushing and dive bombing with 5 other players every time something lights up on the map. Big criticism came over time on the fact that the World of Warcraft, the open world, felt empty. It even goes as far back as when LFG and LFR were introduced and players no longer had to congregate to find other adventurers to adventure with. Seeing a group of players riding past you on their way to a world event is just cool, you may decide to join the posse and go see whats going on. It simply makes the environment engaging and alive. +Preach Gaming I'm not sure if you are saying that you will be asking for flying yourself because you feel you need to be able to blast through these quests or if you simply think the greater player base will be up in arms and asking for it prematurely. From your review here sounded like you would be part of that movement?

It all looks very good and a solid ground basis for the start of Legion, but as somebody said, we need that middle content patch. We need that "Ulduar" patch, but then perhaps a sprinkling of ToC. By a sprinkling, I mean have something where players can achieve cosmetic rewards, like how ToC was with the Silver Convenant Horse and the Silver Covenant Hippogryph. Have a 5 man dungeons being implemented along the Legion journey, like how WoTLK was. I mean Wrath introduced ToC, PoS, HoR and FoS. Barring ToC, the latter three were brilliant and very lore intensive.

This world quest stuff sounds like it could easily keep me playing for a while... so long as the rewards are worth it. It draws a lot of inspiration of the bounties in D3: RoS, but the reason those are so repeatable is that they offer rewards (legendary crafting materials, unique legendaries like the Ring of Royal Grandeur) that you absolutely need. If the world quests stop offering rewards that you actually need during regular gameplay (throughout the whole expansion; not just in the beginning), no one will do them.

+thststth probably recorded the webcam intro with OBS/Xsplit which is known to have audio lag issues if you haven't synced it in the settings. some things that can cause the audio lag is processed audio, meaning he uses audition or reaper for example to compress and enchance the mic and then send that audio feed into OBS/Xsplit which will cause a native 150-200ms audio lag as it needs time to process. can be fixed by setting OBS/Xsplit to "-200ms" on audio which will increase the latency of the video and thus making it synced again.

you can buy a Brul-Totem in highmaul, near thundertotem. It is a toy which throws you about 40ft into the air on a 5 min cd. if you have a glider (e.g. the toy glider also obtainable in highmountain) it works really similar to avianas feather, even though it is neither as fast nor as height increasing as AF but is on a much lower cd.

Just an observation from what you were saying about world quests. The idea of traveling to a zone for a minute quest, and then traveling back, all while on foot; is this not one of the minor things that everyone keeps complaining that they miss from vanilla? Is that not an example of how Blizzard is listening to their fans and giving them what they want?

It's nice to see that the WoW Team is taking stuff that works from their other games namely for Legion the implementation of World Quests (Bounties) and Greater Rifts (Scaling Mythic Dungeons) I've been playing the game since TBC and İ really think this will push the game in the right direction. My only gripe so far is the tanking changes but atleast DK and Druids look really nice! Hope to try Vengeance!!!

You do get faster mount speed from that first part of the "Broken Isles Pathfinder" quest. I don't know how much but maybe it is a significant amount?

this kind of get my hopes up. it already seem like you get varied things to do and most of it seem okej. i get that we can't have weekly or even monthly updates, but the thing is that you don't need that if the content is good... wod endgame did not have good enough world content... as long as they don't release a major patch that adds a vendor that pretty much slap you in the face and tells you "now you can buy missions to go and do the same zones you are already tired of pretty much as many times as you can handle". as long as they don't do this again i'm sure legion is going to be just fine.

I think I can say this for a good majority of your fans preach. But lets all give wow a big ITS ABOUT TIME. They need to do things like this like they did in BC. Where they dont care what people will think. They just go outside the box and so something special. This is what made the game great. My only concern with this is how long can they make this stuff last. If the gear is only as good as heroic dungeons then people will do this until raids come out then they may stop. I guess we will see. But I am really happy they arent going to screw this up like wod. I personally hope if they can make legion really good wait until October or longer to make the game great and add more stuff. Like that stupid quote. If they make build an expack like they used to They will come. This can get a large group of players back and keep them playing.

+Pasketty I'm not sure, I guess it has always been a natural progression from questing to dungeons to lfr. What would be amazing is if quests were dynamically linked to the progression itself. They unlock or give different rewards depending on the players progression. You cleared the first wing in lfr, great here is a bunch of new quests / dailies / fill the bars / phasing area / mini bosses because you cleared it. So in effect, you would still do the world quests and all the other stuff as it is still relevant. But these are just ramblings and ideas.

+Dr34m3rsDelight Then everyone would have to do LFR to get new quests to do. :/ I don't think LFR gear should outmatch heroic gear actually, blizzard have said it's closer to a "hey I can't raid but I still want to see the cool bosses and see how the story goes down in here". So I don't think there should be any real gear improvements in there. Maybe the purple world quests should give what LFR does now and the blue ones give HC level gear then LFR is just raid tiers reskinned for LFR with no stats purely for cosmetic purposes. Many of the "legacy" server people (me included) want the old world system. Where you HAD to take long ass trips to things. Going 10 mans in vanilla at Blackrock for Horde. We want this to be slow and "annoying" . It just feels more rewarding and you see the world, the designers spent so much time creating.

Hey Preach, can you comment on double crafting professions? So far you could just buy the required mats in the ah after reaching max level. Will it delay you considerably if you e.g. just can't craft your alchemy potions at the beginning of the leveling phase?
