Her dad passed yesterday On June 2, 2024, at 1:32pm, Alaska State Troopers were notified of a single vehicle motorcycle accident near mile 49 of the Parks Highway. Investigation revealed Timothy Hoffman Sr., age 58 of Anchorage, was riding with a passenger and lost control of his motorcycle as he was northbound passing S. Rainbow Street, leaving the left shoulder of the road and rolling into the center median. Timothy wasn’t wearing a helmet; his passenger was wearing a full-face helmet. Both were unresponsive and transported to the local hospital with life threatening injuries. Timothy was pronounced deceased at the hospital and his passenger is in critical condition.

Social media has made parents use their kids for money and could give 2 flying pigs asses who’s watching & saving their videos. The demographic based on their analytics the people watching these young kids, mainly the girls are middle aged men. I hope her dad finds peace. He seems like a good man, and I hope he realizes that no matter how hard you try to protect the ones you love, evil can still find a way. It's not his failure at all. Exactly this. I'm in my 50s, father of three, and I broke down when I heard him say he let her down. Absolutely untrue! As you said, there is no way anyone can keep someone safe 24/7 without harming that someone. You would have to keep them locked up somewhere, away from everyone and everything, which is nearly as bad, and possibly even worse! Sometimes you simply are not able to control everything, no matter how hard you try.

I hear you, and also, there IS a lot you can do - the more you can incorporate her special interests or favorite characters/animals/colors, the more compelling your safety practices will be. Social stories or role play is significantly more effective, than non-participatory lecturing - making it more likely to remain accessible in times of heightened stress/big feelings/sensory overload. I used to help out with a really cool guy who was 15 when I met him, and he had been the victim of his parents having been given terrible advice by doctors they should have been able to trust, for many years. Developmentally, he was way behind where he could have been, if he had not been neglected early, at his doctors’ suggestion, but his respite care worker and I used to do Dinner Theater for him while he ate, and he loved it! They were short skits exploring consent, and boundaries. “Drew touched my shoulder and I didn’t like it. I say no, Drew. No hands - I need space!” “Oh, Sarah said, ‘I need space’, she said it nice and loud, so I step back right away, and I give her space.” He was less verbal, but had several methods of communication he used together, and he was fascinated to learn about consent. I was a little upset that he hadn’t been taught this, when I met him, but everyone always underestimated his intelligence, and his ability to learn, if the people teaching could be smart enough to make the lessons compelling and self-reinforcing (doing it, makes you want to do more of it, because some effect of it is pleasing to you) Anyway, I hope this is helpful! It’s terrifying to me too, and my daughter is 13. We’ve had developmentally appropriate discussions about safety and consent, every little while, since she was a toddler. It’s come in clutch, more than once, already, and she’s been able to save other girls from getting assaulted, by telling on a teacher at her school who had been “touching some girls’ butts” when she was in 5th grade. Extra needs just means you’re going to have to work smarter, harder, more consistently, more creatively etc, than someone whose kid is neurotypical, or more typically abled. Will probably take longer; have to try more different variations, but this too is doable 💜⚡️

"We love you too!" I come from a family that says" I love you" when parting or ending a call. When I married, my husband's parents were NOT used to this. Well, it took 35 years, but I finally got his mother to add the "I love you" to our conversations! Like Mike, she sounded a bit awkward at first, but soon it became easier for her. I'm glad Mike didn’t wait until he was 90 to say those magic words because Mike, we love ya!

But it’s absurd that they simply believed he’d pay them, even IF he was wealthy. Tragically naïve, foolish, and morally bankrupt kids.

@@gilessteve that's a fair point and I agree especially when the case is being presented and both sides testifying but don't think it's realistic to expect people to not show emotion when the family is reading their testimonials and such. I can understand the importance of trying to keep emotion to a minimum before the judge/jury comes to a verdict but I thought these "apologies" and the testimonials from victim's family and relatives were usually read after the verdict/sentencing of suspect? Long before the internet, cell phones, or social media, I had two very best friends (or so I thought) trick me after school to a back alley way where 5 other people I had never seen before were hanging out. Next thing I knew I was being beaten into the ground and stripped of all my clothes. As they pulled me up to take the rest of my clothes off, I saw one chance to throw as many punches as I could and make a run for it. When your young you really never know who your friends are. They were all arrested and did 2-5 for assault and battery with robbery since they stole my clothes, wallet and a really cool Metallica pin from the song "Jump in the Fire" I had on my jacket.

Wow.... This one is a tough one. This whole catfishing thing has really caused a lot of turmoil and heartache for a lot of people here in the US, and I know in the UK as well. It's bad enough when someone does it for money, which is what most of them out there do it for. But whenever it leads to murder, that's just unimaginable. I feel so sorry for CiCi's family - especially her father. I live with my elderly mother, & she's on FB quite a bit. I can't tell you how many times she's had men trying to add her as a friend, or she'll get friend requests from people who are already on her friends list, & I'm always telling her, "Ma, don't add those people - they're scammers!" But she's such a naive, sweet-hearted and caring person, that she just doesn't think that people can be so evil and demented. After I found a few videos on YT about people who've been scammed by catfishers, then she knew that I wasn't full of shat. I hope that everyone who's been affected by this horrendous crime gets some peace from the fact that all responsible parties will be doing time for what they did to CiCi....❤‍🩹
