The concept of Tales is interesting; Ep3 (Exploring characters timeline prior) & Ep4 (Exploring aspects & asking questions from a scientific pov) are prime examples of this... The problem is when they introduce "magical" elements into canon; Ep2 (Time loops) & Ep6 (Hauntings). It gets too unbelievable, which is saying something for a show about the Undead... If they do S2, they need to keep it grounded, do stuff outside the USA & explore things the viewers have questioned about that world.

Gimple is a fraud. He was lucky adapatating existing material that already exists. But he even screwed that: seasons 7 & 8, and Killing Carl (I am pretty sure that firing the actor was a part of the reasons why the actor playing Rick left the show)... Gimple also killed Fear The Walking Dead, hiring Goldberg & Chambliss. Gimple seems to hire friends, even if they are untalented and incompetent. Fear's reboot, World Beyond and Tales are the proof that Gimple should not be "head of thé franchise"... He's ruining it.

You hit the nail on the head, this isn't why we watch TWD. I get that it's an anthology show and they wanted to do something different without the constraints of realism and the comics in the main show, kinda like if they had even more free rein to do whatever bizarre ridiculous things they wanna do than Fear which still has to be somewhat realistic, but this is just... I think we all expected this show to bring back more old characters and show more of their backstory and what if scenarios to flesh out TWD lore, returning to old locations and nostalgia for the true veteran fans! In that vein the webisodes about the red machete etc did a better job of being relevant in TWDU, this show is just... pointless. Pointless and boring and weird. I mean in episode 1 they literally use the Terminus set but they aren't at Terminus because they're in another state. WTF is the point in returning to that iconic TWD location and not having it actually BE that location?! They couldve found a survivor of the Terminus group, or found the orange back pack and other items they left behind there, they couldve had literally anything that connects to TWD, but no, they chose not to. Or even the character of Jerry himself, why couldn't he have been the prepper that Tyreese knew? Why couldn't the walker scientist have worked for the CRM? Why didn't they just have episode 2 be a Thelma and Louise type episode of two coworkers who hate eachother having to work together to escape the fall of Atlanta? They just missed the mark on absolutely everything this show couldve and shouldve been, it's just a mess and a shame but honestly not a surprise given the quality of the other spinoffs. It really feels like the writers just don't care anymore and it makes me very concerned for the future spinoffs for the main characters of TWD. It's a hard time to be a TWD fan, I just want TWD to end at this point

Episode 2 might have worked if it was written as something like “10 ways to die in the zombie apocalypse,” showing that no matter how clever you are, no matter how you evade doom, something will still get you. But it wasn’t clever, and the interaction between the two characters as they realised what was happening was utterly painfully done. After struggling through episode 2, I didn’t go back for more.

Welcome back Josh! Personally, I find Tales S1 to be very underrated. Yes there's flaws but compared to Fear and World Beyond (aka Fail and Turd Beyond), they're not that bad. The two episodes I hated where Blair/Gina and Davon. Blair/Gina broke me harder than Fear S7 and World Beyond S1 and Davon sucked due to it's horrendous acting (minus Usher), poorly executed story, awful writing, and idiotic characters (minus Davon). Other than that, I think it's a decent season. It's not good, but I would take this season over Fear seasons 4, 5, and 7 and World Beyond season 1. 6/10.

I think Davon/Jessie was also horribly written and acted, it's honestly one of if not THE worst episode in TWDU. Although I haven't actually watched season 5 and 7 of Fear TWD, thanks to Josh I don't have to 😂, but I've never had to skip through an episode before because it was so boring and bad

Since you mentioned a space station story They could ve told a prequel of the guy we heard in fear s3 talking to strand The russian astronaut. And also There is an easter egg in 105 of that ppp card being shown , but idk I am doubtful scotty g has a good plan for it And also Not every episode needs to have twdu easter eggs But you can tell stories like the ones in webisodes (one set in rick's hospital, red machete...) And pls have some big twd character name in s2 (like the governor) Haha ! It turns out dead in the water was the best "tales" episode this year

@@Scott0742 One of the ways the BBU (Breaking Bad Universe) succeeded where the TWDU has failed is A, the passion and care Gilligan and Gould put to their two shows and B, them concentrating on one show at a time. Both of which proves their devotion to "quality" over "quantity". Gimple however appears to be producing TWD content just for a mere paycheck. Like Kathleen Kennedy has done with SW. The better the foundation, the better the quality is the way I see it.

The show keeps going above and beyond to keep people interested but everyone has seen the affects of what an apocalypse does to people. At this point the show is running on fumes and badass moments, no real substance because its all gone.

I have been looking forward to this. Good to see you back, hope you're doing well :> So, we can conclude that the walking dead spinoff shows are quick cash grabs that they don't actually care about. This show definitely would have worked so much better if it was telling a proper survival story, of how the start of the apocalypse was for each character and how they've managed to survive. That would give us more reason to care about them and be invested. I really don't think people watch TWD for time loops or amnesiacs. Personally, I want to see how people get through the harsh post-apocalyptic world. Episode four worked the best for me because it's the most walker-centric, and the Doctor actually had an interesting take on the walkers. A story about how people in space have to deal with the apocalypse would really work. Once again, the writers are proving that they're attempting something that is way beyond their capabilities.

I agree with you about tales, that they could have a better stories set all around the world. I would honestly really like see an episode about a story set in the Iraq War, how the soldiers felt about the apocalypse and their reaction at how the enemy just stands up after being shot multiple times and, just basically how they deal with it Secondly they missed a great opportunity with making the episode about the walker who was in the tank, they were planing on doing this and it's just disapointing that when they could have done the episode about the walker they didn't Also, Davon is Morgan's long lost brother

I wouldn't say it's the worst but it's a massive disappointment. They've already announced a season 2 so hopefully they learn from their mistakes and abandon the more weird otherworldly elements that don't fit within the wider universe. They set up some interesting things like a lot of the background stuff in episode 4. The episode takes place 35 years after the outbreak, there's a dead sector and/or a trench, (I don't remember if the trench and dead sector are different things) along with an interesting wider world of characters as apparently the dead sector is safer than the outside controlled by humans. I think that's all of what happened but I don't remember a lot. The episode itself was fine but it felt very disappointing with all the other things that were established in the episode. I also agree that the choice to give a backstory episode to Alpha was odd considering we got two flashback episodes in the main show that showed us how she got to where she was. There could've been more episodes about other characters from the og show that would be interesting like seeing the events at Terminus that Gareth talked about before Rick showed up, the Governors rise, the creation of Alexandria, Abraham and Eugene meeting Daniel from Fear, Gabriels backstory or Negan becoming the leader of the saviors since "Here's Negan" didn't show that

Hopefully Season 2 turns out like the 2nd season of The World Beyond did, and is a big improvement. Also, I think any of the characters you mentioned would've been better suited for an anthology episode than Alpha, especially when you consider it's only been 1 season since Alpha left the main show, would've had more impact bringing back a character like Abraham who we haven't seen for a while.

to me episode 3 and 4 were the best in the show and i read an article about the whisperers that said Heras group of whisperers were more humane than Dees version after she took over and the episode in tales is in between the two we seen in the main show first she kills her husband then ends up on the boat that is took over then she i taken in by Hera but she runs away from that group finds Beta and comes back to kill her, there is a lot more story to tell with the whisperers, i loved your ideas about what they could of done with tales, the tribe and the space station might be my favourite ideas, just a point about the line "that doesn't look like a vegan kind of gun" is because vegan's don't believe in killing, but there was a worse line in that episode for me and it was when Joe said "you're holding a Glock on me" but the gun she has is a 1911, you missed that Devon in episode 5 had a PPP card the same as the one Tara found when Heath was taken so they are giving that a new meaning

i totally understand why you didn't like episode 2, but i quite liked it. i've only seen the first 3, and it's the only one i liked. and it's grown on me with time. coming from episode 1, i thought the writing was refreshingly competent. the tone feels awkward and unfunny at times, but i liked the story. until the end of the episode, i thought it was a great story but not a great walking dead story cause groundhog day without some realistic explanation doesn't work in this universe. but they explain the plot at the very end through the mental disorder folie a deux (gonna be used in joker 2 as well), and that detail provided a good twist and really amped up my enjoyment of it. i thought it was quite inventive and original in a universe where disappointment and mediocrity abound as in the crews/munn & morton episodes. mostly dreading what i'll think of eps 4-6 when i get around to them. oh, and they explained why they continue going back to the mini mart after you stopped watching

Episode 2 I liked in part of the ridiculousness, despite the dumb shit. Episode 3 felt really uneventful. Not including the retcon, we don’t learn anything worth while. Episode 4 was good, although the lady I felt shouldn’t have survived this long. Oh, and the doctor not wanting to save any humans seems dumb.

Like you, I was really disappointed in Tales. I didn’t care for ANY of the episodes. Im a huge TWD fan from seasons 1 through 6. And I thoroughly enjoy so many different kinds of TV shows, from sitcoms to serious drama, from thriller to SciFi, from horror to even kids shows; but I just hated most of the episodes of Tales. The writing didn’t work for what TWD is supposed to be.

Why can't AMC just hire GOOD WRITERS who are familiar with TWD???? Things will never improve as long as these inexperienced woke lazy writers keep making this incoherent shit up as they go along. They make no attempt to connect this show to TWD even though the opportunity is right there, and even when they try like with the Alpha episode it's inconsistent with the lore of what we already know! I'm all for doing different things but ever episode of this show is just... weird. Unnecessarily and unexplicably weird, with bad writing, bad acting and more holes in the plot than swiss cheese. It's just nonsense. And funnily enough episode 4 is probably my... least unfavourite episode of the bunch 😂 but everyone else seems to think the opposite. I think it at least performed better in trying to do something different that actually worked and fits with the tone and lore of the rest of TWD, whereas episode 1 was too comedic, episode 2 is impossible, and episode 5 and 6 have more stereotypical horror tropes like ghosts, hallucinations and paranormal activity that just doesn't work. Why make this a part of TWDU? Why is this needed? How does this expand on TWD or serve any purpose? That's the problem with so many spinoff shows in modern franchises, it's just making shit up and slapping the name label on it to milk the franchise for all it's worth. Hell, the recent seasons of Fear TWD, World Beyond and Tales make season 7 and 8 of TWD look like top tier television! So fucking disappointing and underwhelming! The bottom line is the writers just aren't good enough and don't know what they're doing, and idk why the showrunners, AMC or even Robert Kirkman if he's still involved in the creative process allows this steaming pile of horseshit on screen because it's tarnishing the reputation of TWDU! How many people will want to watch the main spinoffs after this????

I second all the suggestions that could’ve made this better. The Alpha episode was just pointless. She already had her story so well covered. They should do more episodes about characters we already know though. An Abraham/Eugene episode, a Bob episode as he says “I’m always the last person alive in all my groups” could be a Here’s Negan type episode where Bob continually outlives his fellow survivors. Cover those characters that had more story to tell.

Not sure why joe and evey left the other prepper girls place, there was food, electric, water, and even weed. I mean even just until the next day. Rest up, grab a shower, get loaded, munch, go to sleep. The next day come up with some sort of a plan.

I loved the Blair and Gina ep, thought 1 and 6 were decent, hated the rest. My least favorite was 4, I'm honestly surprised you liked it. I hated those two characters the most and the end was just stupid IMO. I think if you look at them as separate movies with different genres it's not really that bad. I don't think episodes 2 and 6 are even canon in the same way the rest is. I think people are being a bit hard on it, because it's nowhere near as stupid as Fear. I thought it was a fun little thing, whether or not we get more I don't care.
