The Grove S4.14. Quiet intensity in a peaceful setting, then shockingly, Lizzie kills her sister Mika. Carol has to kill Lizzie and admit to Tyrese that she did the same thing to his girlfriend. She lets him decide to kill her or forgive her. Perfect. Great acting.

I put The Grove in my part 1 list, it's a bit overrated for me just because I'm not huge fan of any of the characters in the episode, but I can appreciate its appeal.

deja vu The Grove is the show’s masterpiece. Easily still the best episode of the show to this day. It was criminal that Melissa McBride was not nominated for that episode.

I’d probably say “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be” is still my favorite. Even if it’s not the most rewatch able episode, the emotion and tension from that episode has not been matched. The acting was top notch, even if Chandler Riggs was kinda cringey. It was the only episode where Negan was a complete force to be reckon with and actually felt scary. And it easily had Andrew Lincoln’s best performance on the show. It just did so many things I thought the TV show would never do and it did it. Absolutely loved it.

The acting is that superb that I can't watch it comfortably even now. I just can't bring myself to sit there and we're seeing it through Rick's eyes too. It's the cruelty involved and yes Rick had gone in with the survivors and killed their outpost etc. but he thought he was doing away with a threat who just killed when they wanted and took everything. No it was awful and still is. That's the reason on lots of discussions people say but can you forgive Negan and I say NEVER! Never forgive him for what he did to Glen and Abraham and what else annoys me is everyone seems to overlook in the last few episodes of Season 8 Negan sets them up to be basically slaughtered. If it wasn't for the guns going wrong (I called that when Eugene was reading a book in one episode about how a great battle had been won with similar tactics even though they put it in as if it was Rosita and Gabriel that changed his mind, as did other fans) they would have been ripped to pieces. God don't you love the way the guns backfire? So well done! Anyway nice to hear opinions of other fans. People who jump on the bandwagon to go against it blah blah are just idiots. If you don't like it don't watch it. There you go that easy is what I think to the haters.

@@BagzAndPresident what does that mean? We are on the journey with Rick as he wakes up, his acting is superb. I wrote that a month ago, and your comment makes no sense about it's not first person. We see through Ricks eyes in every episode in a way. That's usually what happens with a lead character. Especially episode 1 Season 7. I know the difference between first person etc. in writing and so on. Confused as to what you mean exactly. If the camera follows you around and you react of course we're seeing it as you see it!! That's how the whole human race works! We are empathetic to a person if we correctly read their expression!? Plus as he's so alone, and his grief is being shown through his facial expressions. That's the whole concept of acting!! So I have no idea what you are trying to prove, so please explain. Thanks

I couldn't agree more about Season 2. I don't know why it's underated because they picked up all their budgets. The Sofia reveal was so well done. I cried like a baby. I've never known a TV programme make me feel like the WD does. I'm a diehard fan and will see it through until the end. Anyway great video. I love Season 4 to 5 and NO Sanctuary is my favourite episode of all time.

Thank you. Season 2 really helped develop the characters and without it I don't think I would care as much about some of them as I do. No Sanctuary is a brilliant episode, was hard not to put it as my number 1 also.

S2E3 is my fave. The walkers still feel dangerous as Shane and Otis struggle to escape the school, and Shane's true dark side becomes undeniable.

@Drake I mostly agree with your POV, but I find s9 did bring the depth back. s9ep5, with Rick's exit, was a fantastic episode that really displayed Rick's character development throughout all the years he was on the show. The last time we got an episode that deep was 7×01. s9 also really improved on dialogue. Daryl actually talks again, whereas with Gimple in s7 and s8 he mostly grunted and acted moody. I also really liked Negan in s9. Some of his lines really fit the situation and were hilarious. All of this being said, I don't think s7 and s8 are complete garbage either. They still have some great moments. As for s10, so far I agree it's slow but I still like it. It's just the calm before the storm that 10B will be.

I recently started rewatching the show again, and I forgot how much I loved the first seasons, especially the first 3. I remember how much Hershel's death impacted me. The show used to make me feel so immersed in each episode and I felt like I actually knew the characters. It's really a shame how much the show has changed. I also really miss the original characters, even the ones I didn't necessarily care for at times (Lori, Andrea, Beth). It was just so easy to have some sort of attachment to the characters. I feel like I'm only watching it now because I've already invested so much time. Maybe they can make something of the end...

Completely agree with this, I also feel as though I'm only watching just because I've spent so much time with the show already. I guess a part of the problem with zombie shows is that characters have to die to keep the viewers on their toes, but if the characters who come in and replace them aren't as good as them then the show suffers, and for me TWD doesn't have a huge amount of interesting and likeable characters left on the show.

@@HeyJoshyJosh Yes, I completely agree with this! I mean I used to really love Daryl and Carol. I still like them, but the writers haven't done their characters justice. The new characters aren't as good as the original, which makes it hard to connect with them. I'm hoping they can really pull together in this last season though. Keep the reviews coming!

SPOILERS FOR SEASONS 9 AND 10 (10x13) Regarding his comment on the predictable deaths from season 6 onward, the newest two seasons handle pacing so much better than the previous seasons, thanks to Angela Kang. Rick's exit was in episode 5, and while Jesus died in the midseason finale, ten characters (3 of which were pretty big and a few minor) were killed in episode 15. Siddiq dies in episode 7 of season 10, Michonne just left in 13, alpha was killed in episode 12. I think it's cool to acknowledge how the Walking Dead is going back to what made it special.

Before season 9 wrapped up, Killer Within was my most favorite episode by far for the same reasons. Though I'd have to say that it's been dethroned by season 9 episode 15, The Calm Before, because it was shocking, tense, and well acted, especially with the big border reveal at the end it was building up to. While I was waiting for it to happen, I was still dreading it, and it definitely shocked me.

S4 ep16 ‘A’, is my personal all time favourite episode of The walking dead. Partly because it’s so satisfying the way Rick, Daryl, and Michonne kill the claimers. The acting is fantastic, it’s chilling overall really entertaining as I remember it. I really liked the claimer story arch and feel that it was somewhat underrated and rarely talked about.

It’s one of the best. It’s got it all. The flashbacks to the prison with hershel speaking to him about doing the right thing and then it shows rick sitting up a car with blood all over him. Made you really wonder what happened. Neck bite was one of the best scenes in the show. The ending of s4 in the traincart was epic. Was then also followed up with my favourite episode ever. Sure, the writing had a few things that were convenient or illogical, but it was still a very strong episode (and for a good year remained a 9.4+ on IMDb).

How can you say the first episode is slow? I watched it as an Andy L fan from the UK. I was like a deer trapped in headlights. Watching him waking up and the way he felt was Oscar worthy as far as I'm concerned. Especially when he cries in the house. But before that the amazing way he portrays how anyone with a heart would feel if they saw all the dead bodies. He manages to make himself look so small and desperately sad.

I got serious ripples from Andrew Lincoln's performance in that opening act similar to Cillian Murphy's performance in the opening act of 28 Days Later....which from my point of view is a proper recommend for both actors.

"The Day will come when you wont be" is by far my favorite episode. The first time watching it had my heart pounding from the start, to devestated at the end. They made you feel the emotions that Rick was feeling. The issue with it, is you cant get that heart pounding feeling again on a rewatch, but the emotion is still there nonetheless. Also, another reason why i love the episode is because they killed off my two favorite characters, and having Negan become my favorite character afterwards. Before this, i hated those who killed my favorites (Nick, Governor, Pete), but I was surprised by how much i enjoyed Negan, and was even more so to find out he became my favorite character. (Another reason why I like Negan, is because he killed my least favorite character, ever on the show, being Spencer, so Negan got bonus points for that.)

@@bishbosh4815 because the majority of viewers were Karens, who were Daryl/Glenn fans, and not the Walking Dead fans, and thought the episode was way too violent, and didn't like the idea of their 'hero' Daryl was broken, as Negan literally took the power out of the 3 heroes of the show, and killed the other. So many people hated it, because they were a fan of a character, not the show.

@@memyselfandi2568 that is true, but what doesn't make sense is if fans didn't like gruesome violence, how tf did they watch all the gore of walkers and characters deaths like Dale, T-Dog, Noah etc, characters literally getting their bodies torn apart? And how come 18 MILLION people tuned in to watch it? I think people use it as an excuse for leaving. Casual viewers left because, as you said, they loved a character, not a show, and they weren't in it for the long haul, and actual fans left after that episode because of the shows gradual decline in quality in season 7 and 8, many of whom have not returned despite how good everyone says season 9 and 10 are, which just baffles me. How so many people can be so disheartened from TWD's lowest point that they won't even give it another chance, or maybe the absence of Glenn and Carl is just too much for them? Idk, I don't get it really. I think it was just the cliffhanger and the wait that really got people, we all knew what was coming. And the show really did start to go downhill, but that episode itself was incredible, I think people just use it as the inciting incident for the shows decline and the reason the left, the "day TWD died" if you will

@@memyselfandi2568 undoubted the show was at its best when the characters (good guys) were winning, which is why the season premieres of season 3 and 5 were so popular, it felt like they were beating the world, they were powerful and fearless. So when they had that power stripped away, 2 fan favourites died, and the tone shifted to dark and depressing after the were basically living their best life in the apocalypse, I guess that was too much for casual viewers. But I do think they ruined the characters of Daryl and Carol in season 7, they only got good again in season 9 and now theyre the joint protagonists

I would just feel really sad now watching these old episodes knowing how Carls character ends up after Rick struggled & fought so hard to keep him alive, it all just feels so pointless, in my opinion the show should've been ended after Rick's group reached Alexandria.

This is a really great list. I love all these episodes, and for me, no moment of tv will ever be as shocking as when Sophia came staggering out of the barn.😱 I know some people say they totally saw it coming but I didn’t at all. Great video! Edit: oh yeah, no sanctuary was just such an amazing and absolutely crazy episode! I agree- Gareth was scarier than Negan to me because he wasn’t overly drawn-out and he wasn’t cartoonish like Negan.

Thanks Daisy :) I have to say I didn't see Sophia coming out of the barn either, I thought she was probably most likely dead but I didn't think we would she her as a walker, especially one who had been stuck in Hershel's barn! Gareth really was a great villain who was evil up until the end, with Negan however it seems like the writers have tried to make him likeable of late, which means he loses a part of what made him scary.

Killer Within has always been my favorite episode of all 10 seasons. We also thought this episode killed Carol. It seems the majority of people hate Lori, but her death was almost as kickass as Merle’s. Keep up your great work.

Here’s Not Here (S6 Ep4): Fantastic character study of Morgan and top tier performances from Lennie James and John Carrol Lynch 3. No Sanctuary (S5 Ep1): Terminus escape 4. Four Walls and a Roof (S5 Ep3): “Tainted Meat” and the end of the Terminus arc 5: Days Gone Bye (S1 Ep1): Introduces the show and its characters/world in a close to perfect fashion. 6. Oh how did I forget No Sanctuary, an episode of badass Carol. Yes Killer within is the saddest episode. I still cry when Rick finds out Lori is gone and Carl had to put her down.

Honestly Season 1x6 is hands down my favorite episode. Frank Darabaunts great writing,showing the scale of how large and hopeless the conflict truly was,how nearly all of functioning society has collapsed. Finally,the last moments when Dr Jenner resigns himself to death by blowing up the CDc rather than trying to confront the future horrors of the world,convincing T-dogs wife to stay. After he opens the door to get out,he tells Rick a secret that sets in stone that this war will never end due to them already being infected. I honestly havent seen an episode of television that conveyed such a Sense of Hopelessness,horror,and resignation to ones unfortunate fate since that episode.

S6E16 is epic, we finally meet Negan, and see Rick so scared for the first time. S6E9 is also a great one, is the first time the Alexandrians work together as a team, lots of losses, but they worked together to get rid of the walker threat that broke in. S2E7 of course when they discover their efforts in finding Sophia alive were in vain. S5E1 yup Terminus at last they found this "community for all sanctuary for all" haven, only to find out it's all a trap. S7E16 the first battle with Negan takes place in Alexandria, this time Rick's group have expanded, they even have a Tiger. Definitely one of the best things on this episode was to see walker Sasha. S7E1 probably one of the most shocking episodes ever, that left S6E16 with the biggest cliffhanger on the show. Terrifying episode indeed. Anyway this is my list.

No love anywhere for Season 1-Episode 4: 'Vatos'? Families desperate to protect their elderly loved ones, maintaining the allusion of a tough street gang in order to keep those alive and dead at bay while they try fleetingly to secure a way out of the city for all those involved. As someone who was pessimistic about the series because of my love for the comics, that episode was the saving grace that made me give the show as much of a chance as I did. I regret it, but I still hold 'Vatos' as my all-time favorite episode.
