I did not know their father was a maths teacher. If there was a mathematical formula for wondrous music Prefab Sprout would be as close as possible having captured it. One of my favourite bands since 1985. I caught up with Swoon soon after and the rest is history. I am guessing McAloon senior would have been both nice and effective as a teacher.

1988… my first job, my first payment, my first CD player and my first three cd’s… together with ‘Brilliant Trees’ (David Sylvian) and ‘Life’s rich pageant’ (REM) came ‘From Langley Park to Memphis’ from the dear Sprouts. A bit of a change after the cherished ‘Steve Mcqueen’ but 35 years later the richness of songs like ‘Nightingales’ and this one still stands firm. One of my ever beloved bands since 1985 up untill today. Wish we could see them life, for just one time…

C' est toujours un plaisir immense à nul autre pareil que d' écouter et d' apprécier à sa juste valeur les MERVEILLEUSES BALLADES MUSICALES de PREFAB SPROUT . Le Temps s' écoule mais ces CHEF D' OEUVRES ne prennent aucune ride ni la moindre poussière .Ils sont là ,à notre intention ,c' est tout .Dans un Siècle ou dans mille ans ,la qualité restera alors que le Monde autour de Nous aura changé et ça ,c' est une QUALITE MAJEURE que trés peu d' Artistes dans le Monde peuvent se vanter de posséder avec leurs "créations"...Beaucoup de productions actuelles que j' appelle "les Chansons poubelles" finissent à la poubelle et rejoignent le néant parce que tout le monde les aura oublié dans quelques mois ,c' est le Destin de beaucoup de ces chansons composées sans génie ,sans inspiration ,juste avec quelques notes basiques et un flot de paroles sans intérêt ,censés valoriser la Chanson bien souvent et beaucoup font ça ,surtout dans l' Espace Francophone ,aujourd' hui .C' est pathétique ! J' écoutais à l' instant une de ces MERVEILLES qui défie le temps et que j' adore sans restriction "Ménilmontant" de Charles TRENET ou que ce soit "Nationale 7" ou même "Que reste t' il de nos Amours" ,ces chansons ne vieillissent pas et restent toujours magnifiques ,50 ,60 ans plus tard. Pourquoi "Alexandrie ,Alexandra" de Claude FRANCOIS ," J' attendrai" de Rina KETTY ,reprise tellement de fois ,sublimée par DALIDA ou "Sous les Sunlight des Tropiques" de Gilbert MONTAGNE ou les quelques petites Notes de Piano des "Vacances de Mr Hulot" de Jacques TATI ,restent dans Nos Coeurs et s' accrochent à notre Mémoire ,ce n' est pas dû au hasard ,toutes ces chansons ont une ÄME ,une Melodie que l' on reconnaît tout de suite ,elles sont belles et cela tient beaucoup aussi à la Personnalité et à la Qualité de l' Interprète .Tout est là ! Vous savez ou vous ne savez pas ,vous ressentez ou vous ne ressentez rien et vous prenez pour de la Beauté ou de la Qualité tout ce qu' on vous sert sur un plateau du moment qu' ils l' ont emballé dans un joli papier cadeau avec de belles décorations virtuelles mobiles ,des lumières colorées ou des paillettes ou même des chorégraphies "bling bling" qui sont juste là pour apporter un supplément d' adhésion à la chanson ET vous éloigner de l' Essentiel ...Et que l' on ne se trompe pas sur mes propos ,je suis Mélomane et j' aime beaucoup de Style Musicaux différents surtout le JAZZ FUNK ou le JAZZ FUSION ,le smooth JAZZ ,cela ne s' arrête pas seulement aux Variétés Françaises ou Internationales ou même à la New Wave ,la Pop Anglaise ou ce qui est inclassable...

in all the videos, this one especially, the complicity, the chemistry, the love which existed between Paddy and Wendy transpires in each image, in each note of its musical compositions and without any doubt strongly influenced the songs of the group. I want all this very strong love, this fusional relationship that they have lived together in this musical and romantic universe. I really loved for them that such love lasts a lifetime, it would have been a consolation for me ( and for others) who did not know that, who ran all their lives after "the Grail" and do not seek it anymore.

It is always an immense pleasure like no other to listen to and fully appreciate the WONDERFUL MUSICAL BALLADS of PREFAB SPROUT. Time passes but these MASTERPIECES do not take on any wrinkle or the slightest dust. They are there, for our intention, that's all. In a Century or in a thousand years, the quality will remain while the World around We will have changed and that is a MAJOR QUALITY that very few Artists in the World can boast of possessing with their "creations"...Many current productions that I call "Trash Songs" end up at the trash and join nothingness because everyone will have forgotten them in a few months, this is the Destiny of many of these songs composed without genius, without inspiration, just with a few basic notes and a flow of uninteresting lyrics, supposed to promote the Song very often and many do that, especially in the Francophone Space, today. It's pathetic! Just now I was listening to one of those WONDERS which defies time and which I absolutely adore "Ménilmontant" by Charles TRENET or whether it's "Nationale 7" or even "Que rest t'il de nos Amours", these songs do not age and still remain magnificent, 50, 60 years later. Why "Alexandrie, Alexandra" by Claude FRANCOIS, "J'attendrai" by Rina KETTY, repeated so many times, sublimated by DALIDA or "Sous les Sunlight des Tropiques" by Gilbert MONTAGNE or the few little Piano Notes from "Vacances de Mr Hulot" by Jacques TATI, remain in Our Hearts and cling to our Memory, this is not due to chance, all these songs have a SOUL, a Melody that we recognize immediately, they are beautiful and that also has a lot to do with the Personality and Quality of the Performer. It's all there! You know or you don't know, you feel or you don't feel anything and you take for Beauty or Quality everything that is served to you on a platter as long as they have wrapped it in pretty gift paper. with beautiful mobile virtual decorations, colored lights or sequins or even "bling bling" choreographies which are just there to bring extra adhesion to the song AND to take you away from the Essential...And that we make no mistake about what I'm saying, I'm a music lover and I like a lot of different musical styles, especially JAZZ FUNK or JAZZ FUSION, smooth JAZZ, it doesn't just stop at French or International Varieties or even New Wave, English Pop or what is unclassifiable...
