It's amazing how famous Carnotaurus is, but it's a bit strange that it's popularity only happen because of ONLY ONE really well preserved specimen. That's right only one Carnotaurus skeleton have ever been found

Carnotaurus really has been getting insane rep recently, Disney might have put its name out there but i noticed that people still didn't use it much in media after, it was around Dinosaur King were i noticed a BIG boom in Carnotaurus popularity, i think it being really fast really helped separate it in a recognizable way amazed you never mentioned the 1 in Dinothunder, there was just a random bad guy Zord that showed up once and then never again, but it was like a bad guy version of the Tyrannosaurus Zord, with a drill tail and all, but instead of being Red it was a dark Blue colour (shame really, i thought they were interesting but they just never did anything with them)

There’s one missing carnotaurus representation that you missed, which I wouldn’t blame because it’s a very rare gem, but it’s the two carnotaurus featured in Dino stalker (Dino crisis arcade game of the 2000’s) and both have very different designs being one red and the other being blue with wide faces like a bulldog and twisted horns

In 2002 there was a "Dino Crisis" spin-off game released called "Dino Stalker" where you have to fight a pair of T. rex sized Carnotaurus three times throughout the game. There's a blue and orange one you have to fight off and they do a lot of charging attacks and they're able to jump higher than street lights. I'm pretty sure this was my first introduction to Carnotaurus if it wasn't Disney's Dinosaur.

One minor correction, the 1st depiction of the Carnotaurus in any capacity from the Jurassic Park franchise wasn’t from The Lost World novel, it was the Demon Carnotaurus from the Series 2 wave of toys from Kenner. Which is what the Male Demon from Fallen Kingdom & Dominion is inspired by.

A different game you might want to look at for some of these dinosaurs is the indie game Paleo Pines! It's cute and cartoony but it's unique for the fact that a lot of the dinosaurs are very accurately portrayed, since they worked with an actual paleontologist to make sure things were as accurate as they could make them, even when they're that simplified.

Fun Fact-The Carnotaurus in Disney's Dinosaur was orignally going to be a Tyrannosaurus. However somewhere along the line they changed the big bad dino to a Carno. Which may explain why the Carnotaurus is so egregiously oversized. But also amusingly down in Florida at the Dinosaur ride they have a fake skeleton of this oversized Carno on display and they classify it as a fictional subspecies of Carno called Robustus Floridaensis. This Carno always lingered in my mind cause of the size snd maroon red coloring. If you ever do another Carno episode, there is probably a big amount of appearances not yet shown, one Carno worth mentioning is the Carno from Age of Dinosaur. A B movie with a....very lanky Carno.

Another thing that people miss is that the Terra Nova Carnos have feathers on their arms Oh and there is sexual dimorphism And the Carno that appears in Dominion (Even at the end of Fallen Kingdom) was yiven the nickname by fans "Demon", based off Kenner's infamous Jurassic toy, and because of this it has become somewhat official, much like Quilliam for the male JP3 Raptor

Honestly, my favorite Carnotaurus are the JWE2 ones specifically. The reason is because of its hunting animations. There had long been debate as to the use of its horns, with some suggesting combat or hunting. many nay-sayers exist, however, so this was often thrown out. But Carnotaurus was indeed a predator (proved by speed potential), but if not by its horns, how would it hunt? Not by arms or claws, and not by bite force. I had leaned toward some kind of predatory use for the horns, but never could think of a good way of envisioning it...until I saw the JWE2 hunting animations. They are perfect! Its not charging like a ram or Pachycephalosaurus, its flinging small prey into the air, and knocking over larger prey, and that fits the overall design of what Carnotaurus is. As for the osteoderms issue, is it possible for the big scales to be reinterpreted in the future as being osteoderms? I imagine it might be, and given the relation between Ceratosaurids and Abelisaurids, I personally wouldn't throw out the osteoderm idea completely. At the very least, scutes may be present on some.

If I remember correctly, the Carnotaurus and other dinosaurs that Tatem added to Carnivores were all based on various depictions of the animals made from artists and even paleo media! Like the Andrewsarchus looking like the one from Walking with beasts for example. But just like you said, it did clash with the canon art style of the game. So, after awhile, they changed each of their dinos/prehistoric animals designs and colorschemes. While the old ones did look cool, the new ones fit the world of Carnivores alot better. And I do appreciate how someone at Tatem listened to the Carnivores fanbase to do such a big change!

Interesting that Disney thrust Carnotaurus into the public cultural limelight when it was the late, great _Michael Crichton_ who gave this theropod its _first_ public pop culture appearance through his “Lost World” novel. _NOT_ that that’s a bad thing IMHO ‘cause Disney’s portrayal is genuinely imposing, intimidating, and presented as a _serious_ force to be reckoned with.

I remember going on Countdown to Extinction at Disney World and seeing the carnotaurus skeleton on display there and thinking it was a BS made up dinosaur, largely because of the single bone forearms. At the time I thought the designers just didn't know how to make a skeleton lol😂.

Cool video! Thank you! Looking at a lot of these interpretations of Carnotaurus, I wonder how many of the artists either had & loved (or never found & longed for) the Kenner 1994 Jurassic Park Series 2 "Demon" Carnotaurus -- because so many of these Carnotauruses have the same (or similar) black and red patterning of that toy.

Adding to the game depictions there was a Jurassic Park the Lost World on rails shooting game with a Carnotaurus boss fight, Probably one of the strangest looks for the the dinosaur ever as it was basically a giant carnivorous Jackson chameleon. With animation's like independent eye movement and camouflage (Invisibilty) like in the novel.

I hate it when people put human hands on Dino’s because it looks nasty ugly and unnatural yet they used they for the carnoTaurus design once or maybe even 3 times

first you discussed ceratosaurus then after that you discussed carnotaurus... Poetic if you know the evolutionary history of ablisaurids

I'm playing the Isle currently, sitting down resting off fall damage and see "server restart in 5 min" so I tab out and go to KZbin and this is the first thing on my feed. As soon as I click it and the into is going in the first 3 seconds, a Carnotaurus in game roars. The timing lol.

In the defense of the Primal Carnage and JW Carnotaurus', the dinos in both franchises were clones created in labs so it can be assumed that the scientists probably modified their DNA to give them Osteoderms on their backs to make them look cooler/more intimidating.

Two things, first, I think you missed the carnotaurus from the movie "turok: the son of stone", and second, there's an interesting desing of a carnotaurus boss in an Android game called dino hunter deadly shores

When you mentioned the land before time and how a good portion of the therapods look very similar. Being tyrannosaurus but slightly different. Almost seems that all the sharp teeth are really only closely related species or individual variations. So chomoer and the carnotuarus are very similar genetically except the carno has the horn gene. This is an exaggerated version of people who are double jointed or have a cleft chin. Idk something i thought of

3:34 even if its a starving dinosaur, the fenestra wouldnt be showing. You dont see the holes in a starving crocodile skull.

The Disney Dinosaur version is my favorite, more intimidating while the Jurassic Park arcade version more disturbing and scarier since they had a reputation that make Trex didn't want mess around with them.

Iirc the Disney Carnotaurus did use a T-Rex model but then it got modified to have the Carnotaurus horns, stubbier arms, and the osteoderms
