David Torn is one of the guitarists who opened up my ears and mind back in the late 80s. And he continues to be an inspiration in the current day. One of my favorite guitarists!

Me too. He doesn't just create music he opens up space out of thin air. True artistry he is.

I have been listening to contemporary music for well over half a century but I discovered the music of David Torn comparatively recently. What a find! Torn is a truly innovative guitarist and a creative genius. Thank you for this wonderful upload.

An incredible story. I already had deep respect for David Torn as an artist. But now I have an additional layer of respect for him as a human being.

An amazing composition from one of the great guitarist/composers of our generation! Thanks TEDx for having him one to show his talents!

this is fantastic, David-- completely beautiful music, as usual, and an extremely compelling story after. It was such a privilege being in Ithaca in the late 70's and getting to hear you play with great frequency, you were and are clearly a great artist. good luck to you going forward! michael sieverts

this left me speechless. music beyond the concept of 'good/bad'. this guy tunes in at the core of life itself, making me aware of the flawed human being i am, while being content.

Saw this a few years ago and since I have developed my own balance issues due I have been told to my spine and surrounding nerve and disk damage. So quite emotional this time around. Great sound piece.

Not only an amazing performance, but a wonderfully candid talk 12 mins in - he's really been through it and come out the other side...

Is this what the new David Torn album will be like? When will it be released? Really looking forward to it and hopefully a tour, too... Philly awaits!

Ah, I admire David Torn very much but... that came off more like a Dr. Phil talk than any sort of relatable, bigger context for learning speech and the improve was duuulllllll..... I hope no real oud players were watching.
