Guys; He knows there's still dents and bad spots to work on lol. He wanted to prime it to feel the progress. This also helps keep it from surface rusting while working on it. Now he'll sand the spots that need for more filler down (or you could use, but it's pricey, filler that's made to go over filler) and touch those spots up. He's not claiming to be done with body work and ready to shoot paint. Why not listen to what he says? lol.

I just used Speedokote high build primer for my '68 t-bird and that stuff is the bomb! It sands so nice you don't even need to wet sand it! I flattened that car out with a long block with no water and could do quarter of the car without changing the paper and inside 20 mins! I had her blocked down with just a few sheets and an hour! Great stuff. You can get it on amazon. What's cool is, you can mix it a bit thinner and use a smaller tip and use it for a nice surfacer too! That helps the paint lay nicer and more even. My car turned out really nice. Flat, smooth and looks nearly factory, and I just used two cheap guns ($30 ish jobbies) and shot it right outside. :) The only spots are no fault of anything but my own where I could of used more filler. Next paint job, I'll get those spots. Hopefully 10 or 20 yrs from now lol. Really minor blemishes. I spent hours and hours and hours. Blocking her out with that primer though only took a few hours though. I had a lot patch panels to weld in and a lot of filler work to do. Better overall than this car, but nearly enough bad spots to contend with filler wise, just the same. So about the same size car and body work as this car for sure. I even shot it with paint once and saw I was nowhere done yet hahaha I had to scuff her up and keep working. I got her though! It was my first real paint job. I honestly did know I didn't have it the first time, but I ran out of 65F days. I had to coat it before winter. The few extra hundred bucks protected all my body work so it was worth it to me anyway. Still saved thousands upon thousands doing it myself so.

A well deserved endorphin rush and dopamine moment. Now, go back to vid number one, and watch yourself dragging this beast out of the field. You should feel another dopamine rush (again, hard earned and well deserved) While you're at it, give thanks to your lovely wife. Without her support, youd be selling insurance and the Nomad would still be rotting away in that field. About that left front fender.....I made a 2" wide mold of the "bead" line out of Bondo when I widened the body on my T. There was an 8 inch gap where the new fiberglass was flat across the back where the original "bead" had been. I smeared Bondo on the area and slid the mold along a thin wood straight edge across the flat body. It took a few additional passes but one could not tell that it wasn't an original body line when finished. Good luck.

After touching up your spots, you really should block her out at least twice, Dan. It will make a HUGE difference in how the paint will look. You don't have to go crazy. Just go ahead and sand the primer off the bad spots, touch those all up, order another gallon of primer. Yes, a whole nother gallon. It will be worth it. Before shooting it though, spray the whole thing lightly with a can of black guide coat. Allow to dry, with 3 nice thick layers of primer on there now, grab a nice long block (16") and flatten it all out. Even if you just go over it all lightly to find all the deepest spots where guide coat still is, then touch up just those spots with more primer. Allow to flash for 10 -15 mins and then shoot the whole car. In just an hour or two times going over it witha long block and flattening out all the primer will pay HUGE dividends in the end results and take away a massive, massive amount of "waves" in that big long car that you'll have if you dont. Now if you do that twice, you'll REALLY have her pretty darn flat and she'd REALLY look sharp once painted. Just a few hours, you don't have to go for perfection but you'll see that guide coat will really help you find the main dips and waves and you'll be able to sand them nearly, if not all of them right out now with your current 3 layers on there. You're super, super close to having her real flat (besides all those touch up parts) It's so worth doing. Just a couple more hours to do it. You'll see a huge difference.
@oldschooltwist183 жыл бұрын
gonna need more than a gallon lol...the panels on that car are huge...spraying the side is like walking to the end of the driveway to get your mail lol. the panels arent only tall they are long....like spraying the area of a semi hood....but i definitely agree on the twice blocked look.
@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism3 жыл бұрын
@@oldschooltwist18 Well, he doesn't need it perfect and remember that he's got 3 coats on there already. That means, he can sand the first time and flatten out a massive, massive amount of dips and waves just there. With another gallon, he can fill the dips, then spray the whole car and block it again and come real, real close in just a few hours now. He's right there (overall) save for all his bad spots, which I know will take time from experience haha. As for leveling with his primer though, Just one more gallon now that he's got 3 layers thick worth he can sand and he'll have her so flat, the average person wont see anything. He doesn't need it 100k quality, show car. Just those few more hours spent blocking once with what he has then again after all his touch ups and filling some dips and bam. That paint will lay right down for him.
