1) High temperature brake fluid - MUST 2) Brake pads - Highly recommended. Also learn how to cool them down. 3) Oil cooler - Highly recommended 4) Camber bolts - Recommended Other than that, the car is perfectly fine stock. Get a tire pressure gauge and check the hot pressures when you get back from each session. Bleed excess pressure as needed. Pump the air at the end of the track day before you drive home.

Fire Safety Equipment is a must, it’s the law in Australia to have one firmly mounted to your vehicle within reach of the driver.

Solid recommendations especially taking the stock car out first. Best to learn the vehicle as it is and then you can figure out where you want to go.

I just did my first track day a week ago and, I'm happy to say, I had done most of the stuff you recommended. Also, I hope we get to follow this build. My car (basically stock Genesis Coupe 3.8) wasn't nearly as enjoyable to drive on track as I wanted. I immediately started looking at options for a budget track car, and have landed on a FR-S/BRZ. I've watched probabably 50+ of this channel's vids in the last week learning about mods for this car. Also just found out FTSpeed HQ is 20 minutes from my house.

Just a couple things to add if you can get them, good tire pressure gauge and an air pump. Works great if you can get some tire chalk or similar to mark your tires and see if you're rolling sidewall to adjust tire pressure up and down as needed

I would also recommend having a way to check and clear engine codes. Wouldn't be a bad idea to get a oil cooler as a first mod. I was pushing 250°F oil temp my first track day! And I also got a check engine light but cleared it because I had a ECU OBD2 scanner.

I would add “Track Day” insurance. Like that you kept the list simple.

Pretty unusual request, but can you make a video about wrapping the 86? I haven't found any out there.

Don't forget those tow hooks and put them on before you head over. Numbers help as well. Recommend checking and probably flushing the diff and trans fluid if you don't know when it was last donr

Great beginner list but what about oil cooling? 86 platform has pretty bad oiling issues and its very easy to toast the engine even for a novice. I saw oil temps of 260+ on a stock 86 at my first HPDE. I've heard of novices blow their engines on their first day

An oil cooler is definitely something we'd recommend if you plan on tracking your car a lot. For someone who is just going out on the track for the first time and is a beginner, it is not likely they will be pushing their car as hard as an intermediate or advanced driver. An oil cooler is going on my car, don't worry :D

@@FTspeed I agree, I'm moving up to intermediate & invested on an upgraded oil cooler & radiator.

Oil cooler is definitely a must. I blew my engine at Buttonwillow on the 2nd time I tracked mine

@@able_labkk86 Yikes ! Were you NA or boosted? Now that I have a turbo I made sure to get it.

@@rookietoprobuildz what oil cooler do you guys recommend? i heard running thicker oil like 5w-30 helps.

Awesome video, you hit all the best stuff beginner's should be thinking about for their first few track days. Especially about not going 110%!!! Get out there and learn about your car, grab an instructor or experienced driver and ask if you can ride along/if they could ride with you. HPDE is about modding the person behind the wheel. Side note: build log on the new car as you go?
