Hello I’m praying for everyone. And I ask for prayers for my family because my husband lost his job 2 months ago and he applied for unemployment benefits and got denied. I was doing house cleaning and babysitting but now I haven’t been able to do either for now. We are in a real struggle for food and other supplies and I have been losing my mind hair falling out just breaking down praying and crying. I hope all is well with others cause my world is falling apart.

Started my pantry years ago, I never worried about getting products, this pandemic has made me really think about what we eat, and how much of something we need. I rotate through my pantry, I am not a doomsday prep-per; that being said, looking to the next 6 months, my purchase's are about what we are going to need to get over fall/winter and hopefully entering spring ready to start filling shelves and preparing for the next fall/winter. Want to reiterate, don't fill your pantry with what your family doesn't eat and don't feel bad about buying cans or jared items. We love olives in our house as-well, I can't grow them - I would if I could, but I can't so the pantry has jars of olives! We are living through history, the kind you read in text books - may 2021 be a better year for everyone!

@@4themotherload - Amen! Lessons are taught in those history books, just as we are taught lessons of history from the Bible. Remember Joseph? Now remember how it was during WW2 when we read about people gathering what they could just to survive, and what worked best. From that lesson I am now making rose hip syrup. Medicinal. It's lot of fun learning history's lessons and putting them to use in modern times.

Good video for a first-time prepper pantry. I've been stocking 6 months of food for years. A few tips are: Put your flour packages into ziplock bags and freeze them for 3 days. The cold will kill any bugs that may be in there. I know it sounds gross, but you don't want weevils or other bugs to ruin your dry goods! Also, I always take a sharpie and write the month/year best by date right on the front of the can so that I'm always using the oldest cans/packages first.

Hey Sandy, I just wanted to come back to this video and add something that might be something you hadn't thought of - emergency dental repair kit! I had a temporary crown in my mouth that was supposed to last 2 weeks but because we went into lockdown here in the UK, it ended up lasting over 2 months (I have a great dentist!).... during that time, I realised I was in big trouble if the temporary crown broke, because my dentist wasn't able to treat anyone at all at that time. So this time, I am acutely aware of the fact that you never know when you'll need a dentist these days - so I'm looking at buying a "temporary filling" kit from a pharmacy, and also some dental gel with benzocaine in it to act as an anaesthetic! Toothache is one of the worst pains known to man, apparently, and I don't want to be caught out. These little kits have quite a long shelf life, I believe. Just thought I'd come back here so you could check fi you have something suitable in your medical supplies stash! Better late than never! :-) Warm good wishes! If this doesn't help you, maybe it will help one of your subscribers?

Last year I was stocking up without intending to do it, so when the lock down started we were ready. We were able to eat through our freezer, all we needed was bread and fresh vegetables. The last two months I have been stocking up with a plan. I first cleared, cleaned and rearranged my pantry so I know what we are using. Found extra spaces to store over flow and now I’m replacing and buying a little extra each week. I am finding recipes that will use what we stocking, including making bread when needed. Also stocking cleaning supplies, hygiene products, medicine and vitamins. I agree that even if we don’t have a second lock down, we are not going out in November, at least until (or if) things settle down. All we can do is pray the Lord will take care of everything else. God bless.

I purchased two 12 pound bags of Baking Soda for pools for $5 each. Because they go in the pool, they have to be food grade. Keep yeast in the freezer for longer shelf life. Also, freeze you flour and beans / rice for three days, remove for three days and then refreeze for three days. Then they are ready for storage. This will kill the creepy crawlies in there. Most preppers I know could stock a store with food, water and water purification methods, medical supplies even surgical supplies and lots of meds, how to books, cleaners, heirloom seeds and different forms of protection. Preppers look at what could happen in any SHTF event and how to overcome it. I also forgot to add personal care items. But if you don't, get candles for cooking indoors and a rack that will go over it to hold the pan near the flames. KZbin has some videos on this.

If you vacuum seal your food in mylar bags, it will last for 20 years or more. A company called Steelpak sells vacuum sealer compatible bags/material on Amazon. For your medical needs, fish antibiotics are the EXACT same thing as those that are prescribed by the doctor. They come off the same manufacturing lines, the appearance is exact, the numbers imprinted on them are exact...they are the same thing, but cheaper and you don't need a prescription. When the grid is down, a small cut can be deadly if it gets infected. Most pet supply websites sell them. Oil lamps. My home is "decorated" with cool, old antique oil lamps. Being in the dark is not pleasant. They don't have to be antique, but you definitely need them. Lots of lamp oil and wicks, too. They are also a source of heat. Just a few suggestions.

This woman speaks EXACTLY as I've been thinking for months and telling others to do - especially my grown children with their own families. I do a lot of cannng, both hot water bath and pressure canning. If you have a pressure canner, you can can your own soups. Bean soups, especially lentils, Great Northern beans, navy beans and split peas, cook up quickly and do not need to be made ahead. But when beef was on sale, I bought some (not much of a meat eater but...) cooked up 7 gallons of beef/ barley/bean,/carrot/spinach /veggie soup and canned it. I think this healthy soup cost only about $3 a quart or less. But that sort of soup needs to be pressure canned. But it's apple season now and we are lucky to live close to apple orchards, so I bought a bushel of apples for $12 and made applesauce which I hot water bath canned, and apple pie filling which I freeze. Pumpkins were on sale, so I made and canned pumpkin soup and froze pumpkin pulp for pies later. I also made ghee from butter while it was cheap - as ghee can last up to a year in the fridge or, if you pressure can it as I did, 5 years or more. Olive oil is another item people should stock up on - as well as veggie oil. Don't buy boxed cake or pancake mixes. Instead, make your own for much cheaper and much tastier. I put vanilla flavoring in my pancakes for that special taste - so if you;re going to stock up, stock up on flour and sugar, corn starch and baking powder - learn to make sour dough (easy) and use that instead of yeast (which turned up missing for about 2 months during the start of the pandemic), when you make bread. 100 % fruit juices are also great to stock up on, and canned milk (my preference over dried milk), for you can also whip canned milk and make a topping for a dessert with it. Eggs, while cheap, are also a great stock up bet. They last MUCH longer than their expiration date. I have eggs from 3 months ago, still good, and still in use. As I rotate my cartons, nothing gets lost. Buying bread in bulk when on sale is a good thing to do if you are going to dry them out (I use my gas oven to dry bread), and store them in plastic bags inside of plastic bins, you will have dried bread to dip into your soups in the middle of the winter, providing a sumptuous meal for less than a McDonald's happy meal. You can also sprinkle water on the dried bread and pop the bread in a hot oven for a few minutes and it will come out fresh and soft as if it just came from the bakery. And if you can't find TP anymore, use a washcloth dedicated to the purpose, as a TP substituent and soak it in bleach nightly. Many parts of the EU do not use TP - they use bidets. We don't have them in wide supply in the states, but a washcloth will answer for that. Much more hygienic, too. So, don't forget the bleach. Also - do not forget water. And salt. And above all, the Word of God. We need spiritual sustenance more than any other type of sustenance. It'd be a good idea to pick your favorite chapter in the Bible and memorize it.

I started prepping in 2014. By 2017, my canned food was expiring (I rotated things we eat all the tiime) So had had to give the food bank a LOT of food before it expired and made myself eat the expired canned fruits and vegetables (which were awful compared for the fresh!) I had about 30 5 gallon buckets filled with treats and crackers, dried beans, rice, etc. When were decide to put our house up for sale in February 2020 (before Covid) I decided to go through all those buckets . Even with sealed Mylar bags and or oxygen absorbers, almost everything was rancid and I spent hours getting so much of it soaked in water then pushed down the garbage disposal!😥 We gave away free all those buckets and I had to take all the packaging which filled 12 garbage bags to the dump and dispose it for $35.00, not to mention all the thousands spent on the food bought over several years ... Then when Covid hit we decided not to try to move to Florida after all and I started to rebuild a much smaller emergency food storage of only things we actually eat now.... No canned veg. and fruit or spam or pasta sauce or pancake mix . On the plus side, I didn't have to worry about toilet paper during the Covid shortage, I haven't bought toilet paper in 5 years!😄

Thanks for sharing this information. I look at the videos with people who have pantries stuffed with beans, pasta, rice, flour and sugar and I think about all the things that could go wrong. Stored foods can be ruined by mice or insects. What if you have to evacuate and leave all your food behind? What happens if someone breaks in and steals all your food? What if martial law is declared and the military decides to confiscate your food? Sure you could sue but you may or may not win and that doesn't help in the short run. I'm reminded that all the careful plans could be for nothing. While I don't think it is wrong to have an extra bag of rice or some extra canned goods. I question the wisdom of having years of food stored. I think about Jesus words at Matt 6:19-20: “Stop storing up for yourselves treasures on the earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Rather, store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Another good thing to do is make up a menu for a month. Based on that menu, build your storehouse around it. so you'll know how much you need. Make it simple but fabulous. Some of the older recipes used during WW2 or the Depression era are good as they made do with little, but still pulled it off. Also, menus help you to plan so that you have enough, and enough of a variety. A 2 week menu plan is OK, too - but if you want to live "extravagantly," a month's supply is more fun. Have lots of pasta and canned tomatoes on hand because you can always mix these with beans or broth to stretch your meal. And try to invest in dried veggies such as dried carrots and celery - or make your own by slicing them thin and slow drying them in the oven. They take up less room and you can store a whole garden in one canning jar. Re hydrate by dumping them in your boiling soup. Also, think of the items that you couldn't get for love or money at the onset of the lockdown - rice, beans and TP. Bear that in mind while shopping now.

Keep in mind that just because it’s $1 doesn’t make it a good deal though. $1 for name brand canned goods isn’t great when you can get the store brand for $0.50 at Walmart. Do the math for price per ounce on many items as well.

I live in Canada and our shelves are well stocked now but it was crazy how fast they emptied when people panicked. I went grocery shopping the day the announcement that schools would be closed and about an hour after I was finished my regular shopping the line ups at the store was insane. I never want to be caught in a line like that so I’m aware of keeping a little extra on hand. Good advice here.

You know, I go in to a store right now and it feels normal. Stores shelves are stocked, everything seems fine, there is plenty of food. I feel like maybe I'm a little crazy for stockpiling. But, then my gut says, do not stop. Something is coming and its best to be prepared. So, I go with my gut.

It’s just me and my daughter, she’s grown. I’m on a fixed income. I’ve been trying to get things stocked up for about 4 months now. I can do much at a time but I think we have enough to survive about 3 months without leaving the house. This includes water. The only thing I’m concerned about is prescription meds. I’m trying to get enough for 3 months. I’m diabetic, thyroid disease, high blood pressure and fibromyalgia. So I’m hoping to get enough to last.

As somebody mentioned below canned tomatoes don't have a particularly long shelf life because of the acid. Canned fruit also doesn't have a terribly long shelf life. If you buy things you eat normally so you can eat from your stockpile like you seem to be doing, you shouldn't have a problem. A website I use all the time to check expiration dates is eatbydate.com. There are many, many items that are good long after the printed expiration date, but not everything. You just need to check. Hope this helps!
