When I was about 14, They offered family portraits at my little brother's school. (We did not and do not participate in these things. Everyone dressed as the pleased. (Of course at 14, I was the only one who "looked decent) my step dad wore a khakis and a white dress shirt that needed to be bleached, with a black eyeglass case in his pocket. My mother wore sneakers, faded out jeans, and a western shirt. My little sister (middle child) wore grubby sneakers, faded high water jeans, and a yellow E.T. T-Shirt. Her hair needed a brush. My baby brother (5yrs old) dressed himself). He wore boots 👢, jeans that were too small, a white T-Shirt with a spaghetti 🍝 stain. Because it was the 80's, I wore white ankle boots, black leggings, A matching top with a geometric design. OH! and the coup de grace BIG HAIR! (I TOLD you I was the only one to dress decent! 😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😛) Ugh, I still have that picture. I think we used it as a Christmas card many years after it was taken and made up a caption about when the hillbillies come out of the woods (We live in Arkansas BTW)

We have two family portraits with all of us. Thank goodness our local elementary school offered family photos during school photo week. Schedule a time, get dressed up, run over to the library, pose in front of a choice of backdrops. Yes, the photos are cheesy. I got us all coordinated outfits. It was a "school" photographer. But I still treasure them. The second session was with a pro out in nature. Those photos are amazing! By a lake. Autumn leaves. Beautiful day. 😍 Total PAIN making it happen. 🤣 I don't see it happening again.

I always want to buy him the cute novelty shirt from Target or someplace and gave up years ago. Buying a size larger is NOT the same as a properly fitting tall shirt.

My brother and I accidentally sabotaged one of my favorite childhood family photos. Our mom had set out photogenic clothes for me, my brother, and my sister to wear. Before we left though, my dad told my brother and me to water the yard. He found us covered with mud, so we had to change into clean clothes. That's how my brother and I ended up wearing loud photo-print shirts (it was the '70s). My little sister's scarecrow doll ended up just blending in with our outfits, rather than being a colorful accent. PS: I love the wedding dress box on the top closet shelf. My wife has one too. :)

Haha! Truth My friend and I were just talking about the the stress of family photos. Especially when it is with extended family. My mother-in-law is super anal about the color matching. She really struggled with my husband (her son) because of his minimal wardrobe. My husband literally has seven of the same blue button up shirt so that he doesn't have to think about what to wear. He has two white dress shirts for church. Then black pants and that is it. She wanted to buy him khakis, but last minute put my sister in law in black pants to have them match. Then trying to keep littles entertained during the hour-hour and half of the session, but avoiding getting dirty. It's so much stress. But I love having family pictures. They are super special to me, because family is most important in my life and I cherish looking at them.

My spouse is a long limbed, extremely broad shouldered 6'7". Clothes are "fun". Casual and office clothes are usually a 2xt from Eddie Bauer, which has athletic cut as well as relaxed fit (hubby doesn't hit the gym anymore like Penn does). At least his feet are a reasonable 11.5. My late FIL wore a 14A shoe - had to get made in Italy. His socks all came from Italy as well. When my hubby graduated college his Dad took him to Brooks Brothers for a custom suit for job hunting - the tailor smiled with glee, saying, "you'll never be able to buy off the rack for the rest of your life, hee hee". Sometimes Belk is OK for tall that isn't also Big. Casual and work clothes- Duluth Trading post. Durable and even a 36" inseam is an option for jeans, work pants and khakis. Hooked on those khakis for durability (spouse is tough on clothes) and the convenient phone pocket on the outside right leg. Their women's yoga pants "noga pant" also has this pocket and I'm hooked! For cheap Activewear, Old Navy has tall men and tall women items online - my 6'1" stepdaughter can even find stuff easily now.

My husband is tall, slim and limby. He has two Armani dress shirts that I thrifted and fit him very well. I literally buy him what ever inexpensive dress pants are available and alter them. Last time we went to a funeral, it was in a snow storm and we had to help push the hearse up a very icy hill in the cemetery. Both mine and his clothes were destroyed from being pelted with gravel, repeatedly falling and having to scamper from the car sliding backwards down the hill. Between that and emergency first aid on the funeral director because he cracked his head open on the ice, My grandmother's funeral was definitely memorable.

My husband is tall and broad shouldered - I buy his work clothes (polos, mock-necks, the occasional dress shirt) from Lands’ End. Their ‘tall’ sleeves are long enough for what he calls his gorilla arms. I find LL Bean’s ‘tall’ sizes are not tall enough, except for short-sleeved t-shirts. Jeans and Docker-type dress pants (for work) we get from the Hudson’s Bay Co. (we’re in Canada 🇨🇦 - don’t know if they ship to the States). I think the pants are a house brand - they go all the way up to extra extra tall. My brother-in-law (6’5”) gets a lot of his clothes from Moore’s - again, may be just in Canada. They have good tall suits. I agree it’s a problem - tall men aren’t just taller, they have broader shoulders, etc. - some ‘tall’ clothes are skimpy, and pull across the shoulders, or pinch under the arms. Roots has good, generously-cut sweatshirts and casual clothes - they are definitely Canadian, but may ship to the States. Both men take very good care of clothes because it’s SO HARD to find comfortable, well-fitting clothes for their size.

The hard part in my family is just getting the coordinating outfits and getting ready the day of. Once we’re all set and posing, it’s never been that bad. The last couple years because of the pandemic we just ask my sister in law to set up her camera on auto or prop up the phone to do the same. Are they the highest quality or the best poses? No, but we get at least one good one for printing. And my niece and nephew are great about keeping my toddlers entertained so that’s not an issue either. Best part is after we just sit down and eat something like fried chicken after that completely ruins the perfect look, and laugh about how the grease enhances the aesthetic.

Haha this is great timing since my husband, baby, and I are getting our first family photos taken tomorrow! The baby is too small for the outfit we originally got her, so we had to scramble yesterday to find a new outfit for her. We found the perfect one at Target, but the only size they had was too big. Out of all the Targets in our metroplex, just one had the dress in her size. And it was like 45-60 minutes away. My husband was kind enough to drive us out to get it 😍 But yeah, lots of stressing 😅

I think the only time we took a full on family photo I may have been 2 years old. Thankfully I never had to do this since 🤣

I do them pretty regularly BUT (this is a big but). I don't go for perfection. I try to schedule a mini session (which is a thing in our area) and I try to buy as little as possible and we don't have to fully coordinate. Perfection not required, just the passage of time.
