Preparing for the Bible in a Year Journey w/ Fr. Mike Schmitz

On December 31st 2021, I finished the Bible in a year study with Father Mike! My husband and I started this study on the Hallow app last year together on January 1st 2021! Every morning, when the alarm went off, we would listen to the day’s lesson and reflection. Then we prayed together and shared our thoughts until Friday, September 17th 2021, the day he passed away. The next day, we continued, I on my end and he on his but still together! January 1. 2022, the beginning of a new year, this cycle will continue every year until we meet again! I just finished the Bible in a Year podcast about five minutes ago (tears still fresh in my eyes!!), and i just wanted to thank you for the conversion that this podcast has brought me. Exactly one year ago, I was absolutely gutted with sadness and emptiness and had a missing piece in my soul. Between CS Lewis and Father Mike - I began to slowly fill that piece with the Lord. In this last year, life has transformed - my husband and I convalidated our civil marriage in the church, and we decided to be open to life. We are raising our children with Catholic values and attending mass each week. I know these are small steps, but this journey of prayer and growing closer to God have truly changed everything. I’m praying for you, Fr. Mike - and for everyone who is, has been, and will be on the Bible in a Year journey- may it reach you in all the way the Lord wants to reach you.

I'm going all in this year with a chronological study of a Catholic Bible in a Year. I'm not Catholic. I only know I am a child of God. I've gone thru THB several times; a couple in paper book form, online before Apps were created, and a couple years with my Youversion App... I started with a different reading this year in my YouVersion Bible, but 'am throwing in the towel to pursue Fr. Mike Schmitz's Bible in a Year podcasts w/ a Catholic Bible, a reading plan, and his daily commentaries... 'am excited! I love my Lord. I will continue to do my 'Bible in a year studies' as long as I live because I learn something new each time. I am a very different person than I was as a young adult. I am alive because of my God. I am 60 & .5 years old, now! Thank You, Lord Jesus! 🥰🙏

I am starting the Bible in a year podcast today, February 4th, 2023. Although I wish that I had started on January 1st, as Fr. Mike said, this journey is not about being perfect. To be honest, I felt disconnected in church every Sunday and I felt as though I wasn't absorbing the word well enough in that public setting. As I go through my adult life and face issues from my childhood I have realized that I absolutely need God in my life. I know this podcast will help me become stronger spiritually and mentally. Father Mike, I'm mind blown right now. I decided though I have felt always spiritual and close to Jesus and Mary. My 46 years of life, i have never strayed from weekly Mass because I have always felt the need for my brokenness to be healed. This last Fall i was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and currently under going treatments the story of Job resonates with me, feeling forever faithful yet suffering. I was good but a bad thing has happened, I have turned to cling to my faith believing he's walking with me in this journey. I've decided to even dive in deeper to my faith them ever before praying rosary , divine mercy and to so many saints my patron saint Anthony, Jude for desperate causes, Perigrine for cancer to name a few. Today's bible story another resolution to hear the bible stories on your podcast. Your Sunday homily today speaks of our culture straying to eventually forgetting Mass or resolutions which had never been me in regards to Mass maybe the diet resolutions. Father pray for me as I fight cancer and I pray to our Lady , our mother to help me not leave my 4 kids on earth without their earthly mother. Today's bible story speaks of Joseph having had kids? I questioned is this Saint Joseph the carpenter the holy family Joseph, did he really have 6 kids before betroth to Mary the perpetual virgin. I didn't know any of this and my mind is blown today. I have more questions but definitely not going to miss a bible story this year because I'm even curious to how Job resolves his questions of has God forsaken him or punishing him as some lead him to doubt.🙏💙🙏💪

The love of my life came back into my life 26 years after we parted ways. He came back to me when I needed him the most but didn't know it. I was Norse Pagan. I am now, bc of his love, through the love of God, relearning the bible and have come back to our Father God. After 26 yrs apart he is finally my forever, my eternal soulmate, my husband. And thanks to his ministry I am learning what I left almost 20 years ago. I left bc I thought Father God left me, but it was me who left him. Father God never left me. I grew up in an atheist family and I tried atheism myself but kept having doubts. During my university years I joined a bible study group and spent some time in an Pentecoastal church and there was a lot I liked, but I felt increasingly uneasy. I attended a few more Protestant services (I used to live in a predominately Protestant area), but it often felt more like Ted Talk than a church. Since then I identified myself as a non-denominational Christian but I miss being part of a church that can help me grow in my faith. I have always felt drawn to the Catholic church because of my love for history, the awe inspiring cathedrals and mass itself. During my studies in Ireland I regularly attended mass and I felt very much at peace. I would like to reread the bible again with the help of this channel. Thank you for making this possible.

I'm trying to learn more Bible in a year father Mike. Imma be turning Catholic I came back last December 2023 I've been back almost 9 months. I was baptized 1979 . Pray for my wife who start coming to Mass now I'm a practicing Catholic after being gone for 10 years. It took many confessions I had to confess for the last 48 years I hadn't cut confessed like that before for so long in the Holy Spirit reminds me of things that I need to confess that I totally forgot about I had mortal sins that I confessed them all now it's just the smaller sins and I only will have to go to confession once a month venial sin . Me and my wife are planning for my life insurance so we'll be buried together as Catholics. All three kids have been baptized confirm. We did all we sponsibilities our for kids

I started this podcast at the beginning of this year and started making my own notes in an email to myself. I printed those emails just so I could go back and read periodically. Then I thought, I'll just start my notes in a Word document! After almost 50 pages (double spaced) one day I did something and lost my document!! I tried searching every place I could on my tablet, tried to do a recovery, searched through every "cloud" and "drive" but to no avail. This was probably eight months of listening and making my own notes and thoughts. So I started a new document, page 5 now. I continue to listen to Fr. Mike, so very inspirational❤❤ and I plan to start listening all over again.... and note taking! Thank you for this amazing gift of listening to Bible in a Year ❤

If we lose our why, we lose our way. Making the Bible in a Year Podcast as a part of our schedule is the best way so that it becomes our daily habit. Like brushing teeth or exercising. I loved Fr. Thank you so much, Father Schmitz, for your exceptional delivery of this fantastic podcast. My motivation was your exit message each day when you said, " I cannot wait to see you tomorrow". I knew that tomorrow will be filled with Bible secrets, some of which I learned or heard of in my 12 years of Catholic school education. Hearing you pronounce all of the names in God's Holy Word is a significant talent which alludes me and most other listeners, I think. And Father Mike, oh the daily prayers after each reading has absolutely changed how I pray . I can honestly tell you that your reading of the Word, the Timeline, Notebook and Companion has certainly made me yearn to know God more sincerely and deeply. I will eagerly pray for you and this podcast providers and participants. Thank You Fr. Mike and the BIAY team.

I've read the Bible twice cover to cover chronologically. And I own 3 Bibles ESV & NABRE. I found your plan this morning just randomly on KZbin!! So, I just ordered The Great Adventure Bible so I can do your plan for my 3rd trip thru the Bible. TY!

Well, as you know, I started this in 2023 in June 2023 and I’m on day 110. So a little late for the companion part one because I’ll be done with it before it gets here but I’ll order the second one for sure. In fact, if I had realized and looked at what it was, I would’ve gotten it Saturday when we were at the Catholic store are used to get excited about going to the shoe store or the sale rack. Now I want to go out to breakfast because it’s on the way and then go to the Catholic store. I am learning so much and it is very important. Not only front of a religious or spiritual way, but also as our minds get older, our brains shrink people who have brains that shrink really quick, generally develop some type of Alzheimer’s type disease some form of dementia one of the First things I was taught when I turn 60 was that every five years I needed to re-invest myself into learning something new, because that is how we keep all the mechanics in our brains, fresh, and all of our cylinders firing. That this all just fell into place when I was a going back to the church, after 50 years, be looking for a new place to light up those parts in my brains that I want to keep it up. And three I have always been a person who loves to read and would devour just about any book given to them. I don’t know how I didn’t read the Bible, but when I was a young Catholic that was not some thing we did, a friend of mine has a Saying, which I do not believe in “we are Catholic. We don’t read the Bible we read the bulletin“? So this all came together very nicely for me. I try not to miss a day I think I’ve missed two but then again I am so far ahead that I’m like if it’s late and I know I haven’t gotten it done and I know I need to go to sleep to go to sleep, I know it’ll be there in the morning. I start my morning with my morning hour. I end my day with a good Bible in a year it has taken the place of the 10 o’clock news much to the happiness of everyone around me who knows that I was almost living in the 24 hour news cycle. You have done a very, very wonderful thing, Jeff’s studies, your welcoming and friendly voice, ascension for undertaking this massive project. I know there are others that are involved in this, but I consider the three things the most important so I am loving it, and I look forward to every single day I get to listen to my employees don’t be offended second favorite priest every day. Sorry.Father Brian at HolyFamily I’m guessing he is probably a lot like you were when you were 32 years old. This is his second year at Holy Family his first assignment and it’s wonderful to watch him grow each week as we do too. Thank you so much. Know, you are in my prayers.❤️❤️🙏🙏✝️✝️

I did every day of this past year of BIAY! And I will begin anew for the New Year. And I plan to do it forever. I will forever need to hear God’s love letters to us. I will forever be learning and hearing something new.

My husband of 32 years died in 2017 the day before Thanksgiving. My life had been geared to his job, his community service, his health needs and our 2 children. We lived by his calendar. When I turned the calendar to December, it was blank. Now I had no routine, no order, and no reason to do anything. I had truly lost my why. At the week between Christmas and New Year's Eve, I started an hour of prayer with my rosary and several others that I found on KZbin. I began counting the days on Jan. 1st, so I could remember when my year was done. Since I started this, my daughter got married, I dealt with a wildfire, I was diagnosed with blood clots and colon cancer. In spiteof it all, I am still here thanks to my terrific medical staff, the prayers of the families in my new parish and the faces of all the precious little children who are at church every Sunday. I pray for them all. Then I saw the Bible in a year and started in January. I had a setback when I left my printout at home and was displaced at my daughter's during the biggest snowstorm in 40 years. But, I accessed the copy on my family website, started with February and read 2 or 3 days worth every day until I caught up. Now I'm reading ahead because December will be busy and I don't want to forget. It's a discipline for me to finish. I will start the Catechism in a Year in January and do it side by side with BIAY again. I do these religious disciplines first thing in the morning before the world comes in and gets in the way. Starting this today! My brother did this last year and he shared it with my Dad. My Dad in turn told me he was going to do this and something inside me said... yes!! I want to as well. Thank you Fr. Mike. I am looking forward to this!!!! God Bless you!

Thank you for a great year. Just finished my first year, which is the second year I started. Lost my way the first year, and started again in 2022, but not on Jan 1. Had to do a few days in one to finish by 12/31. My Director of Religious Education once told me many years ago that I reminded her of Peter....always falling and getting up. All i can say is for those of you who may "fall," just get back up. Be like Peter! What a gift!
