This year was my first time owning chickens and I just wanted to say that the chicken videos on your channel were very helpful for me. It took away a lot of the anxiety around building a proper coop and just the general aspects of taking care of them. Thanks so much!

Might be worthwhile considering priming the OSB walls to prevent urine and moisture absorbing into them before moving the chickens in. It will prevent the OSB from swelling, prematurely deteriorating, and provide easier clean up. Thank you for sharing your setup, I enjoy your content!

I love this new chicken run. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this new building. We purchased a repo building and converted it into a coop for our hens. We paid about $2,000 for a 8X12. It was in great shape. Our hens love it. I am going to change the roosting bars to make more room for more roosting. I have 16 Buff Orphingtons and I need to put 6 Rhode Island Reds in with them. We tried to mingle them the other day but all they wanted to do was peck at each other.

Great idea with the 2x4's. I bought one just like that but the smaller one, 13×10. FYI, I didnt like that the height was about 4 feet high on the side ends so I added PVC extensions to make the height 6feet and 8 feet on the middle area. Made it work so that you dont have to bend over when going inside there. Also put some hardware cloth on the bottom to keep critters out and a fence mesh around the sides approximately 3 feet in height to create a wall between outside and chicken wire... extra protection.

Maybe I missed it but what about the stormwater drainage? I get 4.5 inches in less than an hour at least twice a year where I ended up with dual 6in smooth-wall pipes worth of subsurface-drainage per half-acre to keep the water out of my shoes.

Yes I understand that but we have to start somewhere and take the first steps to get out of the cities. The key is to find a place just outside the city where you could commute to work if you had to.

is it just me, or does it seem like a predator could fit thru the top corners of the entry door?
@petebeasttexashomesteading
@petebeasttexashomesteading 3 жыл бұрын
Once I put the chicken wire on, it should cover that area and the chickens will be in the coop at night and I shouldn't have to worry about small predators. I really need this run to stop the hawks from killing my chickens during the day.

I used to think that also, but there is a lot of land out there. They say the world is over populated but it really is not, it's the cities that are over populated. Too many people in one area.
