I will be that way with my kids. I will push them way harder than my parents pushed me. That's what breeds success. Not slacking on them. My dad was so soft (So kind & sweet & still didn't tolerate things) But soft. He'd ground me & let me out that same night. God love him. But Asians just don't play. I agree with all of them wholeheartedly. I didn't hear anyone however mention the power of positivity and manifestation. My mom always told me I was the smartest kid in the class even when I didn't feel I was or I wasn't in reality. But she taught me to speak it into existence until I ended up being the smartest kid in the class. Of course I worked hard and she provided me with the necessary tools and resources to do so, but I can't imagine I would have been as successful if she didn't teach me to believe in myself despite what my reality presented me.

I agree with Tamera and Tamar on this. It is true that there will always be someone out there that is smarter, prettier, and more successful than you but you just have to do the best that you can be so that you can succeed in this life. My parents taught me that as well. And the reason why Asians are very successful in school and overachievers is because their parents are constantly pushing them to be great and aim high for everything and Asians are very hard workers and they are very disciplined when it comes to their work. That's not just an Asian thing, that's also a Caribbean and an African thing as well because Caribbean and African parents are always on their children to do better and they push them so hard to succeed in everything they do and they work very hard.

I think their needs to be a balance I'm glad she pushes me but I don't think it should be so hard. U should also try to take care of ur child's needs & ask the, what they want to do instead of push them to be so successful that they aren't happy

The "Tiger Mom" sentiment that Jeannie spoke on his very universal when it comes to foreigners that settle in America. African immigrants actually perform the best in College. Similarly, if an American of any race settles in another country, chances are they and or their children will perform well.

Loni, no need to get defensive. Jeannie made a very valid point. There's a reason why Asians are considered a model minority. Simply put, it's what they prioritize-family, education, culture, faith etc are all intertwined. Education is HUGE. It you're a first generation American, chances are your immigrant parents were the hardest working people you knew who not only navigated a whole new country/language/culture but did so while preserving their heritage and values.
@imancampbell32079 жыл бұрын
How did Loni get defensive? She literally just gave an honest opinion about the subject she wasnt defensive at all.
@VONiiE89 жыл бұрын
But so do Africans. So I mean??? If she got defensive, then hey. It was only fair bc Jeannie made it seem like Asians are the only race where, if you're a first gen. American citizen, that you were given a lot of pressure to succeed.
@priyas97519 жыл бұрын
VONiiE8 No she didn't. Jeannie is speaking from her personal experience growing up an Asian American. What she said is statistically true; Asian Americans tend to be more educated. The African American culture is very different from the African immigrant culture.
@SuperGinrummy9 жыл бұрын
@imancampbell maybe you are right, but the tone and delivery of how she reacted to Jeannie's comment had some subtle defensive undertones. In any case, I commented mostly because I appreciated Jeannie's contribution to the conversation since I could relate. ✌️
@VONiiE89 жыл бұрын
She said things like "when I say Asian, I mean pan Asian" I doubt her experience as a Vietnamese bred Asian can relate to that of a Iraqi bred Asian lbr here. But, like I said, so do Africans. I know Africans who were under so much pressure to be a doctor or lawyer because they were first gen. in America. And I never mentioned African American, as in ~I'm black and I'm GENERATIONS in~, I said African as in, ~my parents have a thick ass accent that I can mimic and/or speak my respective African dialect~. I never thought or even gave the impression that I thought African and African American cultures were the same. I never even mentioned the term African American, where did that even come from? Now, let me clarify, I don't think that's how she meant to come off, but that's how she did and I can see why people were offended.

To kinda answer Jeanie's question, there was a study comparing how Amerifan parents and I believe Chinese parents react when their child takes a random test. The American parent would say "it's okays its just a silly test you are still great." While the Chinese parent told their child "you did good but let's study alittle bit what you missed and make you do better."

It starts at home. My parents taught me something and I'll never forget it, "They don't have to like you, but they do have to respect you." I'll never forget that. I learned about work ethics and success at a very young age. I wasn't ready fro the real world because I was to gullible, I thought that people spoke the truth and didn't deceive and manipulate others for their own advantage. I learned that the hard way, and so when I have children I will be honest, and keep to my promises like my parents did. However, I will inform them of such people and teach them how to spot them so that they wouldn't have to go through what I did.

Tamar's made progress though. On a previous episode she said she was raising a Mama's boy. I believe that the focus should be on the content of a child's character rather than their appearance and the child should grow up grounded on the principles of the word of God

***** The parents' strong relationship with God, their teaching the child the word of God and how to cultivate a relationship with Him, prayer and faith are the foundation for any christian household. That's the parents' part. The rest we leave to God.

I completely agree with the ladies. I didn't experience my first real failure until I was 22 years old and it was completely devastating! I would have been much more prepared for the ups & downs of real life if I had experienced & overcome some failures as a child. I'm 35 now and honestly, I still struggle with accepting failure. Don't get me wrong, I was by no means spoiled as a child. I've always worked REALLY hard at everything I do, but I got used to the notion that hard work always led to a successful outcome and that's just not realistic.

Zazwa1 I noticed that too. You can't get mad at statistics 🙄
@solbingham68816 жыл бұрын
Zazwa1 her statistics are actually incorrect as usual. Jeanie speaks things that are not correct at times. In mine Sociology class we learned that thinking Asians or pan Asians like she said our smart is actually a stereotype. Yes they do push their children to do better but that doesn't necessarily make them smarter. My sociology teacher was Asian she was Taiwanese.

which race in America is committing the most crimes? = blacks which race in America committing the least crimes? = pan asians jeannie never said asians were smarter, she said because asians have tiger moms, asians are excelling academically compared to other race
@derrickrivera91046 жыл бұрын
Sol Bingham that is incorrect. White people committ the most crimes yet black people get higher sentences from the same crime due to plain systematic racism.

Good talk.. I think it's good to teach kids to be good people. Follow God and be humble . I love what tam said my mom always said that also.. I teach my daughter to be non judgemental and accept everyone for who they are but be choosy on your friends . My daughter is only 9 but I also want her to learn you can't always win and stay humble and kind

I agree with the soccer, sports thing tho, I prefer to play for fun, and in life, come success or failure, I want to enjoy whatever it is I'm striving for, I don't compete with others, I only compete with myself, which goes with Tamera's Be the best you can be. Because that's what got me into my 1st choice college. My College Essay I wrote, I've failed countless times, but I never give up, and eventually I will succeed. I may not have a perfect 3.0 or 4.0 GPA, I'm proud of my 2.4 and that shouldn't determine whether or not I should be accepted to the school or define my path to graduate with a degree.
