I'm a prepper here in Texas and cringe at the thought of giving up all my preps. My pew-pews and freedom seeds will be the hardest 😢. I'm coming to the Phils in August and I want to be able to take it up again on a smaller scale once I get settled. Thanks for the info 👍 PS: I'm bringing my freeze dried Mountain House dammit.. They say the potatoes will last for years if you mylar bag them. Poke a hole in the bag first. Same with vacuum sealing. One prepper opened a 10yr bag of potatoes in mylar and they were perfect. The instant style with added butter and such will last a couple years past also. It's the butter fat that causes them to go bad eventually.

Anytime I make a turkey dinner for the family, I take the leftovers and cut the turkey into chunks and cann it. Then I take the carcaass and I simmer it for 24 hou4w ro poul4y groth. Great way to make good use of the entire turkey. Then, I take the carcass and over the period of a couple of weeks, I feed the rest of the carcass to the dogs to supplement their diet.

I watched another prepper channel which said to use soft-sided and cardboard mixes, such as cake and pancake, by their due dates. The ingredients and moisture content do not last long and could potentially cause serious health issues. This does not apply to commercially prepared long term food storage like Augason Farms or Mountain House. Great food storage setup.

OMGOSH you are no Shhhhhh*t the FIRST person I've seen smart enough to put anything at all across their shelves to protect the jars from hitting the floor. I like how you used guide wire, it's much nicer looking than my bungie cords! I comment every time I see videos asking people to please consider protecting their investment and I'm always met with the response that they don't live in an earthquake zone.. I'm willing to bet that the houses close to where the train derailed in Ohio shook enough to knock pictures off the walls and knock jars to the floor. I honestly don't get why anyone would put in the time, effort, money etc and not do just a little extra to protect their supplies! The potatoes and the pancake mix. I hope you've put it in the freezer to kill off any unwanted weevils. You do NOT NEED milk and butter for the potatoes If you prefer it with milk use some powdered same with the butter if you want it for taste. I put mine in the freezer for 2 days to kill off any eggs etc and then put into the mylar bags. You have plain potatoes not the flavored so it will last well past the best by dates.

Thanks Liz for the long comment. To be honest, I had posted a few months back without any wire..and a sub suggested it. And I was lucky to have on hand the plastic wire already so was a great solution. For sure the Philippines is a rock and roll country being in the ring of fire. I will likely just cook the mashed potatoes with margarine and milk to taste, then freeze dry to make 'instant', and long term.

Wow! Such a variety of foods from all over the world. Good job. I put my instant potatoes (mashed potatoes) in vacuum seal bags the same size as the box they came in and all the bags are stored in a solid white 5 gallon container. You could put oxygen absorbers in it if you think you need to. They is no reason they will not last a "very" long time. I am in the US and I don't go by the expiration date on any of my preps. First off most of the dates are "best used by" not "expired by." I am eating peanut butter that is past its date by almost 2 years and it is still good. I love your earthquake wires on you shelves. I just used bunge cords on mine.

Indiana here- thanks for sharing. You have reminded me to get more oatmeal in mylar or vacuum seal. Also the instant oatmeal packets. Im guessing if I out them in mylar, they will stay fresh for years. I have alot of canned meats but I'm busy pressure canning some right now. We have a friend with a ranch. We scored on pork and beef at $3.50#. So I am working thru the freezers as fast as possible canning them up. The list just keeps going. I need to check my seasonings and condiments again.
