I had really horrible Neighbors for about 10 years and that's an understatement she was a Karen they didn't mind their own business her son was a meth head broken in my house and stole the handgun and some other things there have been in the family for Generations I didn't catch him in that but it's obvious he did and he got arrested for armed robbery and had to do prison time. And when he got out he told his other neighbor that he used to do meth and he burglarized a house and stole the handgun and held up a gas station and got busted and had to do hard time. So this time when I got new neighbors I don't talk to them very much I'll smile and wave but that's it it's so much more less stress now but it still haunts me that he broke into my bedroom and was in there for a long time and when I came home it must have scared him because he had pillow cases stuffed with my stuff next to the windows ready to haul out

Good morning MR and all! It's a beautiful, sunny, crisp fall day here😊. Loved the chat. Setting up the kitchen for canning today. I'll tell you what, fuel is something that you really have to keep on top of all year to even consider having "extra" for hard times. I've chosen Kerosene and propane for ease of storage and shelf life. So expensive, but being in the north, fuel trumps other items when it comes to planning ahead!

IMPORTANT: I just got out of the hospital from having tetanus. Seriously! I hadn’t had a vax in about 25 years, got bit by a cat, and a week later tetanus symptoms set in. That was Sept 8 and came home October 11. I’ve since learned a lot about tetanus and it is MUCH EASIER to get than we are led to believe. I cannot urge everyone strongly enough to get a tetanus shot EVERY 5 YEARS. Doctors say every 10, but people have contracted tetanus with their shot being 7 or 8 years old. This could be a real killer in a SHTF situation and the TIG (tetanus immunoglobulin) shot you will need to survive it is already in short supply. My hospital didn’t have it and had to scramble to have one transported from another location.

I'm late 40's and I didn't personally experience a lot of neighborly visiting in my life. Not zero, but no a lot. Part of it is, I believe, renting. Renters can be nomadic. I believe that has led to people taking a sort of isolationist bend as part of modern culture.

I laughed when you mentioned the great relationship you have with your doctors regarding getting a prescription for medication to have on hand. My endocrinologist whom I asked about getting a prescription for my thyroid disease owing to the possibility of SHTF. He asked me what I meant and I mentioned WWIII and he said that if the bomb gets dropped, taking thyroid medication would be the least of my problems. So, no, he did not write a prescription for me to have extra on hand. The funny thing is that the pharmacy that sends me my meds through the mail has sent me nine months of the pills so I am ahead of the game and when my new prescription is written in November, I will get another three months of my meds. Nice!

Not sure if you are in the area. Pure Prairie Poultry stopped providing for their contracted cornish producers. The producers don't have feed for their chickens and some are giving them away, only asking for a $1 donation. You can google to find the news articles. If I lived your way, I would get a dozen or more just to raise. Cornish crosses are amazing. Mine grew the size of turkeys and were so tender. Then I discovered New Jersey Giants. They are huge and gentle.

I've come to the conclusion that spontaneus conversation requires wit and authenticity. Modern devices have allowed people the opportunity to control others' perceptions of them, and spontaneous conversations might not support the narrative. Also, the thought of having to converse spontaneusly seems to cause anxiety for many. I've noticed that some people feel that me making a phone call to them is considered a rude thing to do (especially younger people). I seem to get better results if I text, "pls give me a call when you have a minute". I have a flip phone for personal reasons (I'm withdrawing from the "skynet" big brother system), and texting is not feasible. So, I'm old fashioned about making a phone call instead. I know, it's so Gen-X of me.

I went with JASE for antibiotics. My 'doctor' is the VA, so yeah, there is no way they give you 'extra' meds. Fair enough. Have I needed the JASE meds? No. Are they expensive without insurance? Yes. However, at the time, it was a matter of civil unrest, and then covid rolled around, and again, supply constraints with many factors. (and yes, I know antibiotics don't work vs viruses). I just wanted to be covered in case there was a breakdown in medical services. Given that hospitals decided that crucial surgeries were 'elective' and stopped seeing patients in need because they 'thought' they'd need beds for covid patients, I simply had no faith in their judgement.
