Things to look for...any bags with the name on the outside from known camping companies. I was at the flea market and I saw a black bag that said coleman on the side, asked how much the guy wanted for it. $5. Nice, I now have a bag for my coleman 2 burner stove. I picked it up to walk away and it felt kind of heavy. It was the bag, a brand new grill and 2 filled propane tanks.

I got lucky at goodwill and found an old school boy scout mess kit for $2! Cleaned it up with some hot water and baking soda and its good to go.

Thanks for this! I forget about the thrift stores. I racked up yesterday. I got a large rack to cook on, a deep fry basket, a new hack saw, new sheet rock saw, a book on canning and dehydrating food, a book on medical natural remedies, some bungie cords, some stainless steel pans, two food thermometers and a few other things. A total of $30. I was so excited.

I have so many of those wire rack things. I saved them from my old toaster ovens over the decades. They've come in handy when the power goes out.

You made me want to hit couple of Goodwill stores in my area, only came up with two stainless steel water bottles; sucked into buying some DVDs and books.

I've bagged about 10 of the same model white gas stoves out of thrift stores. Cleaned up and run fine! Also bought propane adapters for them so now I can run gas, white gas, and propane.

Thanks for sharing the great restoration on the Coleman stove. I recently got a couple of old Coleman products and will keep your version in mind when I get them operational. So basically Test, Troubleshoot, Scrub away Rust, Clean the crud, and Customize it!

Good one, Sir. Thrift stores can be great or not. I think it depends upon the neighborhood and the manager of the store. Stores near upscale neighborhoods often have good deals. And watch for the "half-price" days. It's amazing when you find a $50 gizmo for $2.99. Keep doing what you are doing, Sir!

nicely done man. One never knows what you could potentially find at the thrift/goodwill store. A saw can also be used to scrape with so it could be used as a ferro rod striker. "And 3 is 2 and 4 is more :D "

Nice we don't get stuff this good in thrift stores near me, as everything that gets donated the staff goes through first so good stuff rarely makes it to the shelves.

Yeah when I lived in California it was like that. Whatever made it on to the shelves was junk n o one wanted not even the store employees. Its much better out here in Nevada.

We used to have a burn barrel when we lived out near the woods. The grill would rust out on the top, so once in a while, we had to find a replacement. We found old grills out of refrigerators or stoves at the junk yard. I suppose you could pick up something like that for a nice campfire.

they also have goodwill outlets..... its the kind of goodwill you buy stuff by the pound not individually. you can get some great deals there.... got 4 harmonicas for less than 50 cents and one was a 50.00 harmonica... so i gifted my kids and a friend with them for xmas... all were still in boxes and new. got an almost brand new recliner that only needed the bolts tightened under the back for 6.00.

Aluminum will oxidize, its own version of rust. It forms a white powder that can be a bear to remove. You can clean the area then use a wax to sorta seal the surface so it wont oxidize as fast. Spent more time than I care to remember cleaning old aluminum wheels on my cars.

Depending on the area you live in, urban or mountain area, you'd be surprised what you'd find on the side of the road if you took a walk. I found a folding saw on the side of the road on one of my walks. 🙂

Picked up a really cool book bag with a perfect insulated spot for a camel back type pouch, aid pouch and pogie bait. Good enough size to carry two sets of tops/bottoms, crocks and 5 socks/boxers. Front pouch perfect for CZ + 4 extra mags. Cool find. MANCHU. Keep up the Fire Brother.

I haunt those places. Got lots of those stainless steel coffee/tea/sugar canisters for pennies. The ones not converted to billy cans are used for storage, everything from dried herbs to nails (might use your painting method on some of them!) Got 3 almost unused backpacks for $3 a piece. A shrink wrap machine to use with the dehydrator and most importantly, quite a few instruction type books, gardening, wild mushrooms, trees, even some maps (as long as they're not too old).

The only thing I ever find at my local Goodwills are ratty old clothes, greasy old Foreman grills, chipped plates, tweaked golf clubs, busted bicycles, and pressboard desks.
@jelkel25
@jelkel25 4 жыл бұрын
@@napalm3899 It's not as good as it used to be, people sell much of their old stuff on eBay now and even hunt around goodwills looking for things to resell. I have to go around 7/8 Goodwills, charity, junk stores and you still might only get one good thing every couple of months, then again you might turn up just after a house clearance and score lots of good stuff.

Clicked because I saw the Aeropress in the thumbnail and was curious how cheap you got it, ha. Sounds like someone just left that stove out in a ditch for a few years. We got a stove handed down to us but it won't light so I have been looking up what it would take to clean it up.

It's always great when I can find something that the store doesn't know the value of... which sometimes makes me feel like i'm ripping them off. Of course it can a also be a long slog rummaging through and browsing past scores of low quality gear that was some past person's "buyer's remorse". I watched a video about the WonderBag and just so happened to find one at a Goodwill the following day (in the bedding section).
