Thank you so much Dr. Hamilton for this inspiring talk. I have witnessed doctors wanting to be "clear " by taking away so-called "false hope" from patients with spinal cord injury. Which I think is wrong. I am not religious, but i do believe in the placebo effect of religion. When faced with big challenges it does help to think there is a power "bigger then yourself" that will help you.

After many medical issues I can attest this is true. And some times, you as a patient gotta drag them to your side. In the end we developed a method that was deemed impossible and will help thousands and avoid harsh treatment and surgery. Non believers don't know the pain and darkness of having no other choice but to be strong and focus. it is much more than believing. It is focusing and commanding your life force.

I’m surprised Tedx didn’t flag this considering they flag all talks on mindfulness and positivity... maybe it’s because he’s a Harvard professor 🤣. Brilliant talk sir. I almost cried at the end after that story you told. 🥺

I would like to discuss the (broad) question having to do with the use of the words ''confidence'' and ''admits'' by the British and the Americans. I point out.

This seems to put doctors in a difficult situation. They have a duty to inform patients of their likelihood of survival, but at the same time doing that will hurt the patient if it takes away their hope. Ideally, you want to maintain their hope while also making them aware of their risks, but how would you do that? Optimism still wasn't enough to cure people's diseases in many cases, so it would be a lie to say that they'll definitely be cured as long as they stay hopeful.
