In this English lesson we will learn how to use ADVERBS with the Present Perfect Tense.
The adverbs we will look at are: Just, Ever, Never, Still, Yet, Already
We learn when to use each adverb with their meanings and give many examples sentences.
First we look at using JUST with the present perfect tense.
We also compare British English vs. American English uses of JUST.
Then we look at using EVER and NEVER with the present perfect tense.
We learn how to use STILL with the present perfect tense.
Next we look at using YET with the present perfect tense.
We also compare British English vs. American English uses of YET.
Then we see how to use ALREADY with the present perfect tense.
We also compare British English vs. American English uses of ALREADY.
The final section is Still vs. Yet vs. Just vs. Already
We compare similar sentences using these adverbs and look at how the meaning of them changes.
- He still hasn’t finished the report.
- He hasn’t finished the report yet.
- He has just finished the report.
- He has already finished the report.

Hi! Very useful lesson. I have a question about "still". In the lesson it is mentioned that it goes before the verb, but in the song by Lionel Richie STILL, there is a phrase that says: "I do love you still". Is that correct? Can you also say "I still do love you"? Thanks for your help.
@WoodwardEnglish
@WoodwardEnglish 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Armando, Here I refer to STILL being used with the Present Perfect which generally has the position mentioned. I have another lesson about STILL here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGPLl5-HfNtno5I Yes, STILL can sometimes appear at the end too, but not with the present perfect. In that sentence, you could also say: I do still love you. (Which sounds more natural)

This difference in use of simple past and present perfect between British and American is weird. I've seen Americans saying I haven't done this yet. Saying I didn't do this yet sounds wrong. The same goes for sentences using just. I'm not American, I'm Brazilian, but I've seen way more movies/series in American than in British.

There will always be exceptions. It sounds strange to me too though I have heard it used by other teachers, and after investigating, found it to be possible.

@@WoodwardEnglish I did my research too/I've done my research too. Hahaha. But I've always thought that so due to informal communication, not grammar. However while starting the message, I must admit that I was more inclined to naturally use the first and not the later to inform you about my research.
