During that 22 minute interview he could have been challenged by the untrained interviewer with a standard dementia test question that takes exactly 60 seconds of his time. No need to conduct it in private. These are tests care workers spontaneously conduct in the field.

My wife, age 75, has suffered with ischemic vascular dementia for a number of years now, and now her physicians are talking "end stage." Fortunately, she continues to be cheerful and non-combatant, yet, despite a host of obvious cognition issues and the inability to converse, she does not think she is sick. I believe old Joe is in the same boat, in that he doesn't know or want to believe how sick he really is. And those in his inner circle likely have no intention of helping him come to grips with that. I have advanced Parkinson’s disease - I’m even writing this using dictation on my phone. After 15 years with the disease, I can see it like a hawk in others. The corruption and dishonesty of government, I can get my head around that, what I can’t get my head around, is how anybody could stand by and watch a loved one humiliated on a global scale. Can you imagine? Think of someone you love, struggling with a disease like that, being mocked by millions, jokes about them soiling themselves, jokes about their physical state of being. I absolutely couldn't stand by a watch my dad or granddad face that kind of cruelty. It’s so alien to me.

It's a pleasant and encouraging fantasy for her though, so I asked Gramps to let her indulge in it. It's made her a lot happier over the last several months. That's all that matters to me.

I’ll offer My analysis. I have Parkinson’s. So does Biden. I’m 44, diagnosed 15 years ago. I’m unfortunately an expert in the disease and can identify it easily in others. Watching Biden, I’m looking in mirror. Btw, Sometimes my meds work, called being “on”. Sometimes they don’t, “off”. On or off is near impossible to control. I can literally go from off to on during a conversation (like the debate). Because of on/off nature, he will pass a cognitive test if he’s “on” and it will be used to say he’s fine. But if he took the test when “off”, he will not do well. He might even switch between on/off during the test. That’s how unpredictable this disease is. Ask me how I know… Voice and speech changes are common in people with Parkinson's disease. Some common difficulties include: * Speaking softly or in a reduced volume * Using a monotone voice * Slurring words * Mumbling * Stuttering or stammering * Hoarseness or a strained quality * Breathiness * Uncertain articulation Bradykinesia is a clinical term that refers to slowness of movement, or speed hesitations and halts that occur as movements continue. It can affect voluntary motions, like what you tell your body to do, as well as automatic or repetitive motions. Someone with this neurological history should have had MRI scans and neuropsychological evaluation done and made public before he was ever in a position to have his finger on the proverbial button. If he is in great shape and it’s all a nothing, wonderful! Miraculous! But prove it. This is not about personal ambition, it’s about the fate of the world….

I had a craniotomy and it never affected me cognitively, granted I was in my 20s and he was in his 40s. But I wouldn't make that assumption without a medical background.
