Definitely love the pre-soaked in soda ash but they are both beautiful. Thank you for sharing!

I love that you did this experiment, and I love that it has brought on some further procedural ideas that you wouldn't have come to before. Also, I am super digging the color combo you used for this experiment - I may have to try this one out myself.

I always pre-soak with soda ash but when I'm ice dying I always add more soda ash either on top of the article or on top of the ice. I have never been disappointed with colors not being vivid enough.

Very interesting. I am very new to this and love the geode pattern ... I am about to do a lot of shirts and sweatshirts, so am watching lots of your videos. I have never ice dyed ... I am anxious about that, so my question is ... do you see a BIG difference between ice dying geodes and regularly placing the dye? Thanks, and by the way, do not be hard on yourself, this is an art ... trial and error ... your work is beautiful.

First - You are badass for doing all these videos especially whith the experimenting and explaining. Thank you so much! Second - How long do you pre-soak? And can I spin out the ash soaked clothes in my regular washing machine?

You are sooooo cool!!!! For real. This is the crap that I have been playing with as well hidden in my little lab. BUT - I want to know all the problems so I can make unconventional tie dye art!

Putting in the time to see all the variables, just to learn how to break the rules. 😎 it takes self control to do it in a systematic way 😅 Thank you for your comment ♥️

Oh gosh, this explains so much! I wonder if the soda ash was dissolved in a little water and lightly sprayed onto the ice if it would avoid the stotty details. I have found when I add additional soda ash that the dye doesn't fade as much , especially to the kids shirts that get washed a million times

I love KZbin where else do you get a combo of tie dye and the scientific method I kind of like the look of the unsoaked one, it looked like a modern pansy printed fabric

Wow! Unbelievable results. I don't soak in soda ash because I don't have a spinner. I might have to look into getting one.

Hi and thank you for your hard work. I just wanted to clarify that this correction is regarding ice dye method only. Because of you, I tried cold mist dyeing method for the first time because I didn't need to presoak and they turned out good. Do you also recommend presoaking in soda ash before doing cold mist method too now or just ice dyeing? Thank you.

Love the video & all the detailed info!- I'd be curious how a dry shirt dyed with the dye/SA combo would compare - since you have such thick folds... Is there a way you pick your color combos? Or is it just inspiration? TY❤

I wonder if a pre soaked DRY soda ash shirt would be different? Any theories of how this would change it?

If I read on a Reddit about this, it also talked about whether to soak in hot water or cold temperature water. The article said It always depends on the fabric and its quality, but he points out that when using baking soda the dye lasts longer. And soaking it in hot temperature causes the fabric weave to expand, this is good when We handle designs with many folds

What are your thoughts on the infamous "soda ash burn" fuzzies? Has this ever happened to you? Do you think it's because of the soda ash, or something else?
@corkylorenz
@corkylorenz 6 ай бұрын
(This is all speculation) i have seen minor fuzzies a handful of times but I’m not sure it’s directly caused by the soda ash. I think I might be something about the fabric that makes it do that. The fuzzies stick up, dry out, and then the dye stops bonding once it’s dry. Then the fuzzies look lighter than the areas that stayed wet for the full batch time. What do people say causes the burn? Soda ash that is too concentrated?

🩷🫶🏼TYSM!!! Your art is Gorgeous!!! I just got some fleece and was going to give us a try today. I was not going to presoak, because I hate it and it’s such a pain, but I am definitely going to now, again thank you so much! 🌈🩷🫶🏼
