00:00 Introducing the new Presonus Eris XT monitors
00:50 E5XT, E7XT & E8XT Specifications
01:36 New Features - Larger bass port & EBM wave guide
02:40 Inputs Options & Acoustic Tuning Controls
03:40 Where To Buy Presonus Eris E5 XT Studio Monitors
The new Eris XT range are upgraded versions of Presonus’s super budget friendly Eris E5 studio monitors, offering a wider range of models to choose with a more refined design and enhanced performance, whilst maintaining the features that made the original E5’s so popular in the first place.
There are 3 models in the range to suit different studio sizes and applications, the E5 XTs, the E7s and the E8s. The E5s feature a 5.25 inch woofer offering a low frequency response down to 48 hertz, and as they’re active monitors with built in amplifiers they kick out total of 80 watts output per monitor, with loads of distortion free headroom. The E7s offer a larger 6.5 inch driver, more power at 140 watts per cabinet, and a deeper bass response of down to 42 hertz, and finally the largest of the range, the E8 XTs, have an 8 inch woofer with a bass response right down to 35 hertz, so these are a great choice if you’re producing bass heavy dance or hip-hop music.
Just like the original Eris E5’s, these monitor features composite woven low frequency drivers and silk dome tweeters, delivering a clear, punchy bass end coupled with smooth, accurate highs, but the new XT’s have some re-engineered cabinet design features, to enhance and optimise their performance.
Firstly, the bass port on the front of the enclosures are now larger than on their predecessors, which means that E5XTs now deliver a bass response 10 hertz lower than the original E5s, but most importantly the tweeter wave guide has been completely re-designed. Presonus are calling this the EBM, or Elliptical Boundary Modelled wave guide, and it results in a wider one hundred degree horizontal sound wave dispersion, meaning that if you’re using the monitors in a larger studio with the speakers spaced further apart, you get a much broader sweet spot, so they’re much more suitable for group listening or collaborative mixing. Contrary to that wide horizontal spread, the EBM also offers a very narrow vertical dispersion, to minimus reflections off of surfaces such as your desk or mixing console.
Some of the features that made the original E5s so versatile have remained for the XT versions though, and these include their input and acoustic tuning options. You get a choice of either balanced XLR and TRS jack or unbalanced jack and RCA phono inputs, so the monitors can integrate into any type of setup, be it your home studio, DJ rig or mobile recording laptop setup, and the acoustic tuning controls allow you to customise the response of the monitors depending on the room or environment that you’re mixing in.
There’s controls to adjust the highs and mids, a low cut filter for if you’re integrating a subwoofer into your monitoring setup, and most importantly the three-position Acoustic Space switch helps to counter the bass boost proximity effect that can occur if the monitors are placed in a corner of your room or near a wall.
So all in all, the Presonus Eris XT range offer some of the best value home studio monitors currently available, and you can take a listen for yourself at your nearest Professional Music Technology Store.

The hiss and static is typically caused by improper grounding and has been a common complaint with these monitors. This can be easily fixed by using a 2-channel (stereo) passive direct input box (or DI box) with a “ground” switch on it. A couple of inexpensive examples are the Rolls DB24 and the Klark Teknik DI AV 22P. Also, another common complaint with the Eris series monitors can be not having enough signal, or power, coming from the source to adequately drive the monitors. This may give people the impression that the monitors amplifiers don’t have enough power. That’s why I use a small preamplifier between my source (PC audio card stereo out) and the DI box, and then from the DI box XLR OUT to the monitors. The preamplifier “boosts” the signal to the monitors. In my case, the signal path is: PC stereo out > preamplifier > DI box > monitors. I love these monitors!

I own a pair of the E5 xt that I pretty much use for music production with my Pro Tools every week. When I turn up the volume for some music the speaker gives a buffering or struggling sound which gets ok when turned down. The speakings are in tact. I have the bass on flat and the next part on 20dB. Do you have any tips? I am in a small room. I need to ensure I have the best settings for the my music studio. I had a pair of the E5 when I was in the USA that I purchased in 2018 on Amazon. I am now in China and purchased the E5 ext about 5 months ago. I own a pair of Rokit 6 but it is left in my home country Jamaica which I have from 2012. The Rokit 6 is awesome. I have music on streaming services but really what to get the production much better than where I am at. I know this can be solved by understanding these basics. I, like many other persons have never been trained in the use of DAWs but just pretty much watch a video here, there and everywhere.

do these still have the noise/hum that have been mentioned around? i read it was due to their transformers when initially released 2 years ago. i am not sure if the newer batches still have this issue.

Of course he will not tell you that. Presonus branded hum or white noise is something special. I bought Eris E5 BT (multimedia version with one active and one passive speaker) and the noise was unbearable especially at night. So I returned them and settled with Focal Alpha Evo 50. Double the price 10 times the performance without any hiss. A good friend of mine, a musician, bought E5 XT. Returned it after two weeks of suffering by noise. Skip Presonus people, these are bad and cheap products.

Thanks :) Are their "containers" made out of wood, metal or plastic?

I would guess they're made of MDF. Their front is probably plastic.

Would you recommend these or the Adam T7V's for playing with the Line6 Helix at home? Thanks!

I have Adam audio A5x and the presonus e5 xt. I prefer the presonus for high frequency / string music. I prefer the Adam audios for more laid back, background music listening. Both are very good though

Also the presonus have a much larger sweet spot / dispersion. I can hear them very well from far or strange distances and angles.

this is all specs. I would like to know how the sound compares to a pro monitor.

This IS a pro monitor. It’s just that the ERIS line is on the budget end of professional monitors. It originally retailed for around $349 each, but now sells for about $159 each (April 2023). At that price, this is an absolute bargain because for being “entry level” monitors these speakers sound fantastic and rival many more expensive monitors. I originally purchased the E5 XT for $149 each and was very pleased with them but when the E8 XT’s dropped in price, I picked up a pair and boy do they shine! They have the same brilliance, crystal clarity, richness and accuracy as the E5’s but sound fuller and more robust. I did a lot of research and comparisons before purchasing the Presonus, and I have zero regrets. I love these monitors!

You didn't say anything about their problem with transformer hiss/noise, which is unacceptable and completely disqualifies their position on the market Which is a big loss, because they are really nice speakers
