Great video David! I've just starting mixing in my own drum studio using Studiolive 16ai and Studio One 3. Setting up the work flow is so important to cut your time down mixing. After seeing this, I'm going back to putting my buses at the end to the right, instead of throughout the mixing board. The folders was a great idea too. Thanks

Hey how's it going? I've been a musician for a number of years along with dabbling in recording/mixing/ mastering for a solo studio project . I've watched this beginner series up to this point , but I have a question. I noticed that you have different "songs" for recording and for mixing ( or so it appears to me at least) . Is it necessary to track instruments /vox in one "song" , export them , and then re- import them into a "mix template" style "song" , or can you just track everything from the "mix template" ?

no reason to do that. record, mix all in one song session

Hi David I will record bass parts of my songs and i wanted to ask you something.i will record direct to apollo twin. i will record bass around -18 rms but peak levels are changing.i can handle them with compressor after tracking.but do u think should i put compressor while recording. İ am thinking to use just use twins unison pre 610 and record.Even not bass amp sim on track while recording.i will add bass amp sim later.it is wrong do u think? Your other suggestions will make me happy so much

Either way is fine but when I record bass I use a little compression on the way in during recording. Try using a 610 pre with an LA2A with the unison technology. This is will you a really nice tone on the way to the DAW. Then you can always use a bass amp sim later if you like. I love the Ampeg U/A bass plugins. They are terrific.

Thank you very much for your answer David. İ want to record my tracks pure as posible so i am caring of levels.tones.etc.etc..i am guitarist not a bassist so i will record bass first time İ recorded a bass sample for you to listen..Rms around (-18..-20) Can u tell me your opinion.is it too low? İ put only 610 pre on apollo and recorded. clyp.it/waonnije
